Clay Aiken – Reaching Out To Millions

PBS is a private, nonprofit corporation that was founded in 1969.  Their members are 356 of America’s public TV stations.  They pride themselves in offering the opportunity to explore new ideas and new worlds through television shows and online content to Americans from every walk of life.

According to their web-site, PBS reaches more than 65 million people each week and PBS wants them to experience the worlds of science, history, nature and public affairs and hear diverse viewpoints. They offer front row seats to world-class drama and performances.

The programs that PBS presents have been consistently honored by the industry’s most coveted award competitions. Those who teach children from pre-K through 12th grade turn to PBS for digital content and services that help bring classroom lessons to life.

PBS Kids Online is a wonderful Web site that goes along with the children’s TV programming on PBS. Parents and teachers trust the children’s programs and feel the shows inspire and nurture curiosity and love of learning in children.

There are three outstanding musical series on PBS.  Each one celebrates outstanding artists.  Which series might highlight Clay Aiken?  Well, you can choose where you think he would fit in.

The first series is called Soundstage. This innovative and prestigious program series originally ran from 1974 to 1985.  It featured artists that defined the era.  Some of the featured artists at the beginning of the show included Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick and Kenny Loggins.

Soundstage was reborn in 2001.  The majority of the concerts are filmed before intimate studio audiences at WTTW’s Grainger Studio in Chicago, but Soundstage occasionally hits the road and the artists have been filmed at theaters which include the Genesee Theater in Waukegan, Illinois and the Fleet Center in Boston.

Since Soundstage was reintroduced, performers have included the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Joss Stone, Robert Plant, Wilco, Sonic Youth, the All American Rejects, KT Tunstall, Train, Alison Krauss, Alanis Morissette, Daughtry, John Fogerty and countless other premiere artists.

The Great Performances Series is probably the most well-known series on PBS. This is the 37th season and the programs bring the best in the performing arts from across the nation and from around the world.  This series presents very diverse programs from classical music, opera, popular song, musical theater and many other fields.  The artists represent a “Who’s Who” of excellence in performing arts.

The third series is titled American Masters.  It is an ongoing series of primetime specials that examine the lives, work, and creative processes of outstanding cultural artists.  The series started in 1984 and is a celebration and exploration of creativity in America.

Whatever the series, the list of celebrated musicians that have performed on PBS is extensive.  Ranging from Martina McBride to Elton John, from David Foster to Paul Simon, each musician has the opportunity to perform for millions of people.  39 million households watch public television during an average week.

Nielsen Media Research reported that the primetime audiences watching PBS are significantly larger than many commercial channels, including HBO, the History Channel, and Bravo.

If Clay Aiken does perform on PBS, it will be an amazing opportunity for him.  It has been said many times, if people can see and hear Clay in concert, they will be impressed.  It will be so enjoyable watching Clay’s fan base grow and grow.
