Clay Aiken – Good Timing – A Part of Being Successful

It seems that Clay Aiken has great timing in selecting the songs for his new CD and great timing for releasing the album.  We all know that good timing is a huge part of being successful.  Maybe the following is a co-incidence, but maybe it’s just good timing.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) will host its 18th annual Latin Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, CA on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. The black tie gala will honor the songwriters and publishers of ASCAP’s most performed songs in Latin Music of 2009.

One of the many highlights of the invitation-only dinner and awards ceremony will be the presentation of the ASCAP Latin Heritage Award to acclaimed songwriter Armando Manzanero in recognition of his unique and enduring contributions to Latin music.

Who is Armando Manzanero?  Armando Manzanero is a Latin American musician and composer who is widely considered the premiere Mexican romantic composer of the postwar era.  Manzanero represents the past, present and future of romantic music in Latin America.

At the age of eight he was introduced into the world of music in the Escuela de Bellas Artes (School of High Arts) in his hometown.  Later, he furthered his musical studies in Mexico City. In 1950, at the age of fifteen, he composed his first melody titled Nunca en el Mundo (Never in the World) Twenty-one versions in different languages have been recorded to date. The following year he began his professional career as a pianist.

In 1970, a singer by the name of Perry Como recorded a song.  The melody was by one of the most prolific and melodic songwriters from Mexico, Armando Manzanero.  The recording reached #10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and number one on the Easy-Listening chart.  The original title of the song was “Somos Novios”.  It helped to bring pretty melodies back into the rock-heavy music of the time. We know this beautiful song as “It’s Impossible.”

By this time, it all comes together.  Clay said that “It’s Impossible” was a part of his new album.  So, within months, the songwriter, Manzanero, is honored by ASCAP for writing beautiful melodies and Clay Aiken releases an album that includes one of the most famous of those melodies.  Yes, timing is an integral part of being successful.

  3. I cannot stop listening to this beautiful song. My husband and I use to dance to this song…we loved it, sung by Perry Como… But Clay's voice is absolutely perfect for it….My gosh….back to watch and hear again. Thanks CANN for the background on Armando…Yes..timing is everything!

  10. I love how Clay sings Impossible. It's like an earworm…you hear it once and can't get the tune out of your head. It's just a beautiful tune. That's great that it is a song written by Armando Manzanero and he is a great song writer and will be honored in March. I would say that is good timing too. Darn, that song is going through my mind again…guess I'll have to go listen to it again. Lol!!
