Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard recently entertained Los Angeles at their show at The Club Nokia Theatre. The two singers met in 2002 during the auditions of American Idol and became friends. Months later in May 2003, they became the winner and runner up on the second season of the show. Both went on to put out several successful albums. On their Timeless Tour the duo is traveling across the country singing all their favorite songs of each decade. The show starts off with the announcer stating that Ruben and Clay are on the same stage together except this time there is no Simon or Randy to judge them. The show is very reminiscent of a variety type show with music and sketch comedy bits, a full band and Ruben and Clay dressed in suits.

Studdard kicked off the show singing “Flying Without Wings/This Is the Night” in a mash-up with Aiken then appearing to sing “Suspicious Minds.” He then followed with “Bring It On Home.” The pair was backed by an excellent band and two talented background singers (Quiana Parler and
Casey Thompson) who each had their chance to shine doing a solo number. Studdard and Aiken talked about how they met and their experience on “American Idol” which included coming to Hollywood in
which Aiken joked “that it was actually Glendale.” The two then performed an excellent two-hour show to the crowd who sang along to all the songs. Even with the omission of their own hit singles, this was a very entertaining show.

Studdard proved that he can sing R& B and gospel with a funny routine where he took us to the church as Rev. Ruben was going to cure Clay of his “lack of rhythmitis.” Aiken can sing any style given to him as he showcased in this performance. After performing the each decade they closed the show with the song ‘Time Of My Life.” The crowd which included American Idol Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson enjoyed every minute of it.

  1. It's really cool to read reviews like this. We know how good the concert was and it's nice to see that reviewers got it too. JBT was always my favourite but I think it has been edged out by the TT. I hope the two of them do another concert … maybe next summer.

Thanks for the blog and I'll go off to thank the reviewer too.

  2. Wonderful review!! I commented yesterday and didn't even point out that it was both Ruben AND Clay who sang the opening number 😀 I like seeing those types of reviews, I'm still hoping for another Timeless Tour next Summer or, better yet, a TV show!!!

  3. Thanks for posting this review. What jumped out to me was that Clay can sing anything that is thrown to him. You betcha!

  4. Makes my heart fill with joy whenever I see a reviewer love the show as much as we Claymates.

We know how talented he is and can sing the phone book. We just wish everyone else could see what we see.

  5. Great review. It is always nice to see reviewers actually appreciating Clay's awesome talent, not just his voice but his comedic talent as well. Ruben also did a terrific job in this tour. It is also great to see that someone can get Clay can sing anything like we Claymates have known all along. Thanks for this great review.

  6. Loved the Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard review. The show WAS fabulous.
    Those pictures are wonderful also.
