Clay Aiken – Kicking Off The Holiday Season

Did you watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade yesterday?  If you and your family watched the parade, you were one of millions who enjoyed the parade

Since 1924, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has kicked off the holiday season in New York City. Annually, the event manages to get together over 3.5 million people who enjoy having a great Thanksgiving celebration.

The scale of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is immense: besides the people who view the parade live along the parade route, more than 50 million viewers tune in to the television broadcast. Spectators watch in awe as over 10,000 people participate in the parade.  The parade includes the nations best marching bands, performance groups, giant helium balloons, breathtaking floats and the one-and-only Santa Claus.

Awarded with an Emmy for its outstanding performances, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is without a doubt November’s most awaited celebration in New York City.

In 2003, Clay Aiken rode on the Hershey’s float and sang “Silver Bells. The Hershey’s float came right before the float that featured Santa Claus. Rather ironic that Clay rode the Hershey Float.  He has said many times that he is allergic to chocolate.

I hope that Clay can participate in the parade again some time.  It must be an exciting experience.

  1. Yes, I did think of Clay yesterday while watching the Macy's parade on TV. He did a teriffic job that Dec 2003 just after he was on AI 2. I also taped the interview he did last year while the parade passed by. He spoke about Parker and how wonderful it was to have a son. Wishing he will have a loving, merry Christmas with his family this year (before he hits the road on the T&T tour).

  2. I remember Clay singing Silver Bells in the parade. It was a lucky thing I could see the tv from my kitchen–I had my eye on it the whole time just waiting for him to appear!! I did think of him yesterday. As much as I missed seeing him this year, I am sure he had a very happy day with his loved ones and it made me happy just thinking about him celebrating with his family.

  3. This video was nice to watch again….gosh…7 years ago…where does the time go.. And look at Clay's life now. I also remember Clay being interviewed in 2008 after the birth of Parker. I'm hoping that Clay will be in the parade again one year, hopefully with Parker. How much fun would that be?

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  4. I was there! My husband (well, boyfriend at the time) and my friend, stood right at the spot that Clays' float stopped. However, Clay was facing the OTHER way to sing which irritated my friend and I. But, he looked gorgous nonetheless.

  5. Oh, this was such a great video and memory. I always think of Clay when I see the Macy's parade too. Thanks for the memories.

  6. Musicfan,

  7. I loved watching this video of Clay. The Thanksgiving Day Parade holds many special memories from watching it as a child, watching it with my children and watching it with my granddaughters. But the one I always think of first now is the one with Clay appearing it it. Thanks for bringing back that special memory!

  8. Thanks for that video of Clay singing Silver Bells at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I always think of Clay whenever the Parade comes on. Would be nice to see him there again.
