Clay Aiken – Memories of Oregon

One of the signature songs that Clay Aiken sings during the holiday time is titled “Don’t Save It All For Christmas Day.”  The emotional song is usually performed at the end of his concert.  The song is well known for its inspiring lyrics and the amazing “glory” note.

“Don’t Save It All For Christmas Day” was originally recorded by Celine Dion.  While looking for a new song for one of her albums, Celine partnered with Ric Wake and the two of them penned this beautiful song.

According to Wikipedia, Ric Wake is recognized as one of the top music producers in the world. He is an Academy Award winner and a two-time Grammy Award winner. He is well known for producing star vocalists from Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Barry Manilow, Marc Anthony among others, besides his Oscar winning production on Chicago (2002 film).  In October 2007, it was announced that Wake and Greek composer Yanni were working together in the studio to produce new music.  They also were encouraging young singer/songwriters by providing a creative environment for their work.

On November 5, 2005, Clay Aiken performed at the Hult Center For Performing Arts in Eugene, Oregon.  The concert was a huge success and the concert hall was full.  I had the opportunity to attend this concert with my niece and her daughter who lived near by in Corvallis.  It was the first “adult” concert for the little one.  She loved the entire concert and told her mother at the end that we had to attend the next year so she could see Clay fly!!  Clay never made it back to Eugene, but this concert is always a special “Clay” moment for me.

The following video from Eugene was picked as a wonderful memory of my niece who passed away this year.  I hope the video puts a smile on everyone’s face!

Don’t Save It All For Christmas Day

Don’t get so busy that you miss
Giving just a little kiss
To the ones you love
Don’t even wait a little while
To give them a little smile
A little is enough
How many people are crying
People are dying…
How many people are asking for love
Don’t save it all for Christmas Day
Find a way
To give a little love everyday
Don’t save it all for Christmas Day
Find your way
Cause holidays have come and gone
But love lives on
If you give on
Love…
How could you wait another minute
A hug is warmer when you’re in it
And Baby that’s a fact
And saying “I love you’s” always better
Seasons, reasons, they don’t matter

So don’t hold back
How many people in this world
So needful in this world
How many people are praying for love
Don’t save it all for Christmas Day
Find a way
To give a little love everyday
Don’t save it all for Christmas Day
Find your way
Cause holidays have come and gone
But love lives on
If you give on
Love…
Let all the children know
Everywhere that they go

Their whole life long
Let them know love
Don’t save it all for Christmas Day
Find a way
To give a little love everyday
Don’t save it all for Christmas Day
Find your way
Cause holidays have come and gone
But love lives on
If you give on
Love…
Love…

  1. Musicfan.

Thanks for posting the video for DSIAFCD… What a nice story about your niece and her daughter attending one of Clay's Christmas concerts… Sad as well that your niece has since passed. I'm sorry. What wonderful memories this must be for not only you, but your niece's daughter as well.

I got caught up watching a bunch of different versions now..Love the Merriville one from 2007 as well, when he made Angela and Quiana, hold their notes longer at the end, as he was looking at his watch. Love this stuff. There is just absolutely nobody better in concert than Clay. Especially at Christmas. Thank you for sharing….It made my morning.

  2. We were at that concert too and it was fabulous! Please come back to Oregon soon, Clay – we miss you!

  3. Closest he's ever been to me was in 2005 and I missed it. At the time, I didn't know you were never one at a Clay Aiken concert. Hopefully he'll come back to Oregon soon. Again, my condolences for your niece. I hope her family is doing well and they're surrounded by love during this holiday season.

Thanks for the memories (even if they're video memories)

  4. Loved that video! I remember the wig being thrown around..and Jacob got stuck with Clay putting it on his head. But…nobody screamed when he sang "And that's a fact." I loved that.

So sorry to hear about your niece passing away…I hope her family is doing well. I'll have to go watch my video's now…I think I have every single Christmas Show. I think 2007 was the only Christmas show where he didn't come to Florida..at least not my area. That's funny because the Christmas In The Heartland was one of my favorites. But, I have it on tape.

  5. I love the words to this song and it is one of my favorite Clay Christmas songs. To me one of the special things about attending a Clay Christmas concert is that you have such wonderful memories of not only the concert but also of the experience of attending it with family or friends. To me this makes his concerts so special. Thanks for posting and for writing about your niece and attending with her. What a special memory for you.

  6. Musicfan I am sorry about your niece and I'm so glad you shared this. It's exactly what the song means and your family was there together.

Clay sounds so great and I gotta admit that I love that dashing coat ! What a handsome goofball 🙂 So much fun!

  7. My favourite Christmas song in Clay's songbook. Thanks for posting!
My favourite rendition is from San José in 2004. At that concert I love the young men in the choir in the background. Clay blew them away watch them beam as he hits the glory note!) and he blew the audience away too.
