Clay Aiken Sings Mo-Town!

Smokey Robinson and Ronald White wrote and produced a song that is listed as number 88 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of all Time.

What is this song that became the Temptations’ first U.S. number-one single in 1965?  It is “My Girl”, a song that was inspired by Robinson’s wife.  The song was featured on the album, The Temptations Sing Smokey. Today, the song is considered the signature song of the Temptations.

During the summer of 2005, Clay Aiken included My Girl on the playlist for his popular Juke Box tour.  As part of the Mo-town section of the tour, Clay was dressed in the style of the times and used a Fedora as a prominent part of his attire.  Clay’s Mo-Town look became a popular part of the JukeBox Tour.  The Fedora added just the right touch.

Did you get to see Clay live during the 2005 JukeBox Tour?  I was lucky enough to see the show at the Mohegan Sun and at Darien Lake.  I was on my feet the entire time.

The following video shows the Mo-Town section of the tour.  My Girl is the second song in the medley.

  1. Thanks Musicfan…that was fun!!!! The Jukebox tour was great…So much fun.

You know Clay can sing any genre of music… His voice is perfect for Motown…Just listening to him sing "Reach Out – I'll Be There"…his voice is perfection, as it is for all the songs…. He just shines…. I really enjoyed that clip again….Brings back a lot of memories. I saw 3 shows for the JBT. Darien Lake, Clio and Toronto.

    Hugs,
    Judy

  2. I believe he also sang that song in one of his guest appearances on TV. It could be at "Ed" or "Scrubs".

  3. Before the Jukebox Tour, I never thought Clay Aiken could/would sing that genre, but he was great. I'd like to hear him record some Motown.

  4. Oh, what a memory. I think this was my favorite part of JBT. Just to watch Clay do those moves to Motown songs! Yep, Clay can swing to and sing any genre of music.!

  5. Yes, I attended the Clio & Rochester JBT. Clay Aiken put on a wonderful show along with his backup singers and band.

  6. Oh how I wish he'd do this tour again!! It was absolutely wonderful and I gotta surely agree – no one wears a fedora like Clay Aiken!!

  7. I love the pictures of Clay in the Fedora. Clay can sing all kinds of music and it always sounds great.

Thanks for posting this video and it is always fun to read a bit of info on the song!!

  9. Thanks for posting that video. What memories!!!!!!!! The Jukebox Tour was my favorite tour so far. I can't wait to see what he has in store for us this time!

  10. What fun to relive the JBT! I saw it in Columbus OH and Indianapolis IN. Clay is so generous with his backup singers…not many other performers share the spotlight with anyone else. Looking forward to the T&T tour in Feb.
