Clay Aiken – One Night Only!

On Monday, February 7th, Clay Aiken will be one of the stars of Broadway Backwards 6 at the Longacre Theatre in the heart of the busy theatre district in New York City.

The show is produced by Broadway Cares and will benefit BC/EFA and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York City.

According to the BroadwayCares website:

BROADWAY BACKWARDS will feature some of Broadway’s biggest names singing songs originally written for the opposite gender: women singing songs written for men and men singing songs written for women. By keeping all of the lyrics intact, including the original pronouns, each song takes on an entirely new dimension, sometimes with hysterical results and sometimes with immensely touching results. BROADWAY BACKWARDS will give its audience a chance to see and hear some of the most treasured songs of the Great White Way in a whole new key.

I thought it might be interesting to put together a list of songs that Clay might sing at this fun concert.  I’ll start with 3 that might be fun:

1.      As Long As He Needs Me – from Oliver

2.      I Am What I Am – La Cage aux Folles

3.      Don’t Rain On My Parade – Funny Girl

What songs would you like to hear Clay sing at this concert?

Do you need a little help?  This website lists Broadway songs by the gender singing them.   You might get some good ideas.

  1. I wish I could go to this clack. Unfortunately, I am not too familiar with show tunes so don't really know what he should sing.Whatever it is, I know he will do great.

  2. Boy, it sure is great to see Clay Aiken showing up at so many places, especially before his new tour kicks off!!! First the SSB at the Hockey All Star game and now Broadway Backwards. Glad that so many diverse groups recognize the extraordinary talent he has.

Would love for him to sing "Don't Rain on My Parade" as so many small minded people have tried to do over the years. It would be a perfect choice for him.

No matter what he sings, though, the Broadway crowd is in for a treat!!!

  3. Oh…I like your choices Musicfan…

All I know is that I hope whatever song Clay chooses…it will be a "SHOWSTOPPER". Clay never sounds better when on a Broadway stage…Maybe it's the acoustics..I don't know…but his voice goes right through you…… I cannot wait to get the reports……I'M EXCITED!!!!!!
    Hugs,
    Judy

  4. I know Clay will rock the house no matter what he sings. But what I've been dying to hear him sing since I first heard his glorious voice is "The Impossible Dream.

  5. I can't decide what songs he should sing. I'm sure he will sound great whatever.

Although I'd love to hear him sing – Anything but Lonely from Aspects of Love, but I don't know if that's backwards enough. A woman sings it in the show but really anyone could.

  6. Cannot pick a song. But, I know he will be great as always!! I hope he gets a standing ovation.
Looking forward to the reports. Hope everyone who's there has a blast.

  7. I like your suggestions….but I think I would like to hear him sing "A Joyful Noise" from Bat Boy. Why? Well, because that was the name of his Christmas Concerts…and I really never heard it…but, was kind of wondering if that was where he got the name for his Christmas Shows. But, really, anything he picks…I know he'll rock our socks. Wish I could afford to go to this show…but, am waiting for any clack we can get.
