Clay Aiken – It’s Rock & Roll

I have to be completely honest with you……I don’t watch American Idol.  I used to.  I watched the last two shows of the first year and watched Kelly and Justin  as they vied for the title of American Idol.  It was fun.  I watched for a few more years and enjoyed watching as the young kids improved each week and grew to become real pros.  The last season I watched was the season that had the two Davids….  I really liked David Cook.  Then it was over for me.  I can list many reasons why I stopped watching, but……well…I think that maybe some of the magic just disappeared!

On Thursday night, American Idol had more press coverage that they had for many years.  It seems one of the favorites to win was voted off by the fans.  Pia Toscano was loved by the judges, yet she was voted off last night.  According to what I have read, she had a great voice but need to work on her stage presence.  Do you know any other Idol contestant who was eliminated too soon??

This past week, the theme of American Idol was Rock and Roll Songs.  The contestants sang songs ranging from Michael Jackson to the Police.  In season 2, they didn’t have a Rock and Roll week.   Too bad for Clay Aiken who can sing almost any genre of music.  It would have been fun seeing Ruben, Clay, the two Kim and the others rock out.

When I think of Clay Aiken and Rock and Roll, I always remember how great he was when he was singing medleys of famous Rock and Roll songs on the JukeBox Tour.  I visited YouTube last night and found some great videos from the Rock section of the JukeBox Tour.  I hadn’t seen these for a long time, but they are as wonderful as I remember.  Take a look!  These videos are great and prove that Clay Aiken can sing any genre!!

  1. That was so much fun watching these old clips from Clay's Juke Box Tour.. Hard to believe that it was almost 6 years ago. But you are right, Clay can sing any genre, and usually sing it better than the original. He has that much talent…

  2. Not just Ai, all reality shows have lost the magic, for me. I enjoyed it more when everyone had to feel their way. I dropped Survivor and Big Brother after Season 2. AI had me longest, I watched fragments from Season 2-5. They were fun while they lasted.

Clay can sure ROCK IT!!!!! I wasn't here for JBT. Come on Clay, ROCK CONCERT!!! LOL

  3. Well that was fun!!! Clay Aiken most definitely can sing anything.

I haven't watched American Idol since AI5 – it got too slick, too glitzy and less about the contestants and more about production and the judges.

As a huge Iggy Pop fan, I did watch last night (at least part of it) – guess what? I haven't missed anything 😀

  4. I watched AI last night. One of the guests was Constantine Marollus (sp) a former AI contestant. He sang Unchained Melody and it was tough to watch. The arrangement didn't even resemble the "original" and he jumped around the stage while performing. You just can't beat Clay's version…his perfect voice and beautiful arrangement.

  5. I absolutely loved the Jukebox Tour. Of all of Clay's tours, it's still my favorite. It was a lot of fun to watch these videos and relive the excitement all over again. Clay may prefer the old classic songs from years ago, but he's proved over and over again that he can sing any style from any generation.

  6. It was so much fun to watch the JukeBox Tour again. That was one of the best concerts he ever did. I would love to see him do another one for us…complete with Elvis. I love hearing him sing "Suspicious Minds." Clay can rock out with the best of them. Remember the TnT Concert…Orlando..WSN…Rock Singer? I was there and the place exploded when he sang that. Just shows that OMC can sing any Genre…and do it with Gusto! You go Clay!!!

  7. Clay would have really showed his versatility if they had had Rock week during season 2. Clay can sing everything from classic ballads to rock and roll.
