Clay Aiken – Catching Up

I received a couple of e-mails from readers yesterday.  They did not recognize some of the pictures that I posted on Sunday.  They requested more about the pictures..Well, OK

This picture was taken at a National Inclusion Project Gala.  Yes, Clay has a bust of himself in his hands.  He was not hiding it, but it was being auctioned off as part of the fund-raiser for the night.  The bust was first seen on Jimmy Kimmel.  It was a gift to Clay from his friend Jimmy after it was used in the opening for the show.

Photoshopped at its worse…Again, this is a picture that was originally from a skit on the Jimmy Kimmel Show.  Do you remember when Clay visited Kimmel and talked about Dancing With The Stars..It was only promo for Jimmy, but Clay played along.  He wore fake facial hair that actually started to come off in the skit.  It was a cute skit so it was picked up by most of the entertainment shows.  The Insider showed this photoshopped picture as they talked about the skit.  At least that is how I remember it!!

Congratulations to Scotty McCreery.  His new album reached the #1 position on the Billboard Top 100 List for last week.  The album, titled Clear As Day sold 198,500 copies.  According to the entertainment site, Scotty is the first WINNER since Ruben that had their debut album reach the #1 position.

This made me wonder about the successful Idol alums and how their first week numbers were for their albums.  This is what I found:

1. CLAY AIKEN, Measure of a Man: 612,859 (#1)
*Season 2: 2nd place
2. RUBEN STUDDARD, Soulful: 416,589 (#1)
*Season 2: Winner
3. CARRIE UNDERWOOD, Some Hearts: 314,549 (#2)
*Season 4: Winner
4. CHRIS DAUGHTRY, Daughtry: 303,677 (#2)
*Season 5: 4th place
5. TAYLOR HICKS, Taylor Hicks: 298,199 (#2)
*Season 5: Winner
6. KELLY CLARKSON, Thankful: 297,381 (#1)
*Season 1: Winner
7. DAVID COOK, David Cook: 279,578 (#3)
*Season 7: Winner
8. FANTASIA BARRINO, Free Yourself: 240,278 (#8)
*Season 3: Winner
9. BO BICE, The Real Thing: 226,976 (#4)
*Season 5: 2nd place
10. JENNIFER HUDSON, Jennifer Hudson: 217,185 (#2)
*Season 3: 7th place

I watched Dancing With The Stars last night.  I really don’t want to say much except…Clay Aiken is so wonderfully talented.  How wonderful that he found the talented Ben Cohn to write such beautiful arrangements.

Take a minute and watch this beautiful video by SueReu.  I know I have posted it before, but it really shows off the talent of Clay, Ben and Jennifer Grey and her partners.  You will just have to smile!!

  1. Absolutely, loved this posting of the Idol albums and #'s – Clay has definitely beat them all and
there is no wonder why! Clay is fantastic. The video from DWTS is a brilliant piece of work – Thanks to Sue Rue!!!!
Thank you for all of the informatiom MusicFan it is so appreciated. 🙂

  2. Thanks for the explaination of the pictures. Now we know. 🙂

I'm very happy for Scotty. It's a great cd so I'm glad it's doing well.

As always SueReu rocks with the montage. 🙂

  3. As always a wonderful blog.
I loved suerue's video of Jeniffer ad Derrek/Jennifer and Patrick S. dancing to Clay Aiken's version of Unchained Melody, let me say this … no one else should attempt (and I mean attempt!, haha) to sing that song…. sorry Dancing With The Stars and Susan Boyle!

  4. I too watched DWTS last night and during Unchained Melody, I just kept wishing they had gone with Clay’s version. It was really hard to watch what was on the screen. I love SueReu’s youtube of Jennifer Gray dancing to Clay’s version of the song. Thanks for posting it again. Did you notice during Clay’s chat on Fri that he not only read one of SueReu’s questions, he also spelled out her “name”.

  5. As always, Suereu's version of UM with Jennifer & Derrek/Jennifer & Patrick dancing was so beautiful. I have to give Sue kudo's for all the fine video's she has made. Love them.

I also watched DWTS last night….and let me just put it this way….no one…and I mean no-one…should ever attempt to sing UM from now on.

  6. I love seeing the numbers of 1st week sales…….It just shows how amazing Clay's numbers are!!

Yep….the video from SueReu says everything about DWTS last night. I am not going to be nice and will say what I feel. That performance by Susan Boyle was painful. How sad!!

Politics in the music business really hurts the entire music business. Think of the buzz that DWTS would have had if Clay had sung UM last night!!

Thank you for this blog…great job today!!

  7. Clay's 1st week #'s are amazing and will probably never be repeated. Loved seeing the top ten as it somewhat reminded of what talent is.

  8. =) he spelled my name LOL!!!!!!

I love love love Clay's version of UM, Ben did a fantastic job – I am always drawn to the drums, a march cadence like time marching on, just brilliant!!!!! and Clay's vocal interpretation is absolutely stunning (especially toward the end when he sings love, gets me right in the heart every single time)

    Thanks all and thanks musicfan!!!

  9. My ex-, who is not a real Clay fan, says every time he hears Ben and Clay's version of UM, "That's the best." Yep.

And I've just got to agree with you, Rally…. ditto to everything you said.

  10. Fabulous DWTS video of Derek, Patrick, & Jennifer Grey. SueRue, you did a marvelous job of matching Clay's music to the dancing. KUDOS!

I agree totally re Susan Boyle's version of UM. If she had ever heard either of Clay's versions, she surely would have refused to sing the song. I was embarrassed for her.

  11. Just googled and listened to Susan Boyle's version of Unchained Melody. U.S.News has it on their site.
Nice voice – too studied with an excessive amount of vocal gymnastics throughout. Clay's version is natural and straight forward, beautifully sung from the heart, and downright awe inspiring. Clay's ending is phenomenal and brilliant. Love it to pieces.
SueRue – your montage video is absolutely fantastic and exceedingly well done. We are lucky to have you in Clay's camp.
