Clay Aiken – Reading and Singing in Asheville

On Saturday night, Clay Aiken participated in an evening book reading and discussion at the Malaprop Bookstore/Café in Asheville, North Carolina.

The event was announced on both FaceBook and Twitter and many of the people in attendance sent tweets about the evening.

The author who was featured at this event is T Cooper who just wrote his new book titled Real Man Adventures and is published by McSweeney’s.  According to the website, Mountain Xpress:

“Real Man Adventures is Cooper’s brash, wildly inventive, and often comic exploration of the paradoxes and pleasures of masculinity. He takes us through his transition into identifying as male, and how he went on to marry his wife and become an adoring stepfather of two children. Alternately bemused and exasperated when he feels compelled to explain all this, Cooper never loses his sense of humor.”

Clay participated with the author in reading portions of the book.  He and Cooper read three question and answer sections about some serious, but amusing stories.  Towards the end, Clay sang Both Sides Now, accompanied by pianist, Brian Turner.

According to those in attendance, Clay’s voice filled the entire store and the performance was beautiful.  Cooper had fun teasing Clay for not having shoelaces in his shoes.  It was also reported that the store was filled and there was a standing – room only crowd.

T Cooper, who is married to writer Allison Glock, was asked what he was working on now.  He said that he and his wife are working on a TV show episode and also a potential TV show.

A big thank you to all the people who sent tweets about the event and to “Still the One and Sweet Carolina girl, two Clay fans from the Asheville area, for all the information about the event.  If any more “Clack” shows up, I will update this blog.

Do you remember Allison Glock?

She was the co-writer of Clay’s book, Learning To Sing: Hearing The Music In You Life

  1. Awww, sure wish at times like this that I lived in Raleigh! I know Clay requested no video taping, but hoping we get some audio!!!

  2. Sounds like a great evening. Clay sure looked handsome. Hmmm..they said they are working on a possible tv pilot. Perhaps Clay could star? 🙂

  3. While reading this post and coming across the name Allison Glock, I thought "That's the woman who helped Clay write his book". She had also previously written a very nice article about Clay in a magazine (I don't remember which one). I had no idea about who her current husband is. It's a small world, and this site always helps us connect with the most interesting facts.

  4. Lovely photos, hope to hear some audio also if possible, and I will be looking for T. Cooper's book in the bookstore. Thanks Musicfan xox.

  5. Thanks! I do remember Allison Glock–she seemed so taken with Clay–just like the rest of us!
Always hoped they'd find a way to collaborate again.

  6. thosxe are lovley photos of clay aiken i remember allison glock id sure like to hear some audio of clay and him singing both sides now

  7. Nice pictures. Clay is such a handsome man. Was surprised to hear that Allison Glock is married to T.Cooper. I do remember her from when she helped Clay with his book..LTS. I read her story to Oprah on how she met him and it was a very romantic read. Well, now I really can't wait for that Video Chat to see what Clay has up his sleeve this time.

  8. Some of that news sure makes me wonder what the current connection between Clay and Allison might be.
