Sad to hear of the passing of the great George Jones, Soundtrack to much of my childhood. We’ll lay a wreath upon his door. Rest in peace.
I have to admit that I have never heard George Jones sing, however some friends told me that Clay’s “We’ll lay a wreath upon his door” is a line from a very popular George Jones song.
Clay’s tweet was picked up by at least two news sites that quoted celebrities about Jones’ passing. You can find Clay’s tweet at:

On the day of George Jones’ death, several musicians are in mourning over losing not only a great talent, but a great friend.

Jones died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Jones had been hospitalized since April 18 with fever and irregular blood pressure. He was 81 years old.
Jones’ career was marked by a difficult marriage to Tammy Wynette and bouts with alcoholism that led to occasional concert cancellations. One of his nicknames was “No-Show Jones”. After he turned his life around, he jokingly used “No-Show” on his license plates.
Jones, a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, was honored by the Kennedy Center in 2008 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.
The singer/songwriter may have made his greatest impact on the country charts, but his voice and music influenced and inspired artists from most genres.
I have wondered if Clay ever thought about recording a country song. I know he sang many country songs in Raleigh and even included “She Said Yes” on one of his pre-Idol Cd’s.

I would imagine Clay listened to him on the Ole' Opry with his Grandfather when he would lay next
to him when he was a child. My family loved all of the country singers, too! So I am very familiar with
a lot of the older country stars. Love that pic of Clay in the white cowboy hat – very cute! 🙂
I love Clay’s version of Diamond Rio’s “I know how the River Feels”.
Looking at Clays demos I see at least 4 songs that I'd consider Country and they're great! I think I'd prefer however that he not try to make a Country cd at this point in his life. It would look desperate.
I think Clay would be great singing country songs. Condolences to George Jones' family, may he rest in peace, he was a great country singer, used to listen to him a lot, have a lot of his cds.
Not much of a Country song/singer fan, but love Clay's rendition of "She Said Yes". He doesn't sound nasally at all, and sings it beautifully in a clear voice with heartfelt emotion. Clay can easily sing many styles including Country, and run rings around most of those who do.
Thanks for the reminder of She Said Yes". He did mention it in passing (via a Clay fan), during his recent Master Class session. As a side note – he sure looks great in a cowboy type hat!
So sad for the loss of George Jones. You can tell by all the tweets that he was a very loved and influential artist.
Clay could do country if he wanted too. So much of country music is telling the story and nobody interprets a song like Clay. Wow that first picture is just gorgeous! I love the others too because I was at the Frisco concert and it was awesome!
at this point it wold be better if clay doesnt do a country cd im so sad at the loss of george jones so sad so shoking iknew the song he stoped loven her today
I'm not sure Clay would be widely accepted as a country artist and that's probably not the best genre for him. I would love , however, for him to do a duet with Martina McBride or another powerhouse country vocalist.
Clay can sing anytjing and everything. I often hear other artists and imagine Clay singing instead. Like Boccellis TIME TO SAY GOODBYE. Or Elvis singing HOW GREAT THOU ART.At Last by Etta JamesSam Cooks songs. The BeatlesEARTH ANGEL!!!!!
I know Clay can sing anything and it will be great. But, country and western? Never cared for that genre of music…and I don't think Clay does either. Otherwise, wouldn't he have gone into C&W? JMO!!
That was a very nice tweet that Clay put out there for George Jones. Glad they put it up on Billboard and CNN. Shows he is very relevant.
