Clay Aiken – Grassroots Support!

What an exciting day!  I received the following e-mail from Ellen Zeng, the Campaign Manager of Clay Aiken for North Carolina

This is huge news. We just got word we outraised Renee Ellmers’s special interest-fueled campaign in the second fundraising quarter. Our campaign raised a whopping $450,000 — and we’re proud it came from the grassroots support of people like you. It’s not just about a dollar amount. Our strong fundraising quarter shows that people are encouraged by Clay’s message of working across party lines to pass meaningful legislation to get our country moving again.
It shows that our thousands of supporters know this is a campaign we can win.Renee Ellmers said she was going to Washington to fix things, but instead she’s proven she cares more about serving her party leadership than she does the people of North Carolina’s Second District. Ellmers is out of touch, and Clay is speaking to the needs of our district.
That’s why we won today, and that’s why we’ll win in November. The special interests backing Ellmers have been scared of Clay’s candidacy from the start. But with this big news today, we can be sure they’re going to work even harder to try to stop our momentum. We have to be prepared to fight back.
Help us keep up the momentum by contributing $100, $50, or $25 today.Today’s a huge day for our campaign. Thanks for being a part of it.Yours,

Ellen Zeng

Roll Call – At The Races:  Clay Aiken Bests Renee Ellmers in Second Quarter Fundraising (Updated)

Updated 12:20 p.m. | “American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken announced raising $450,000 in the second quarter for his bid in North Carolina’s 2nd District — more than his Republican opponent, GOP Rep. Renee Ellmers.

The Democrat, who faces an uphill climb to defeat Ellmers and has not yet reported his fundraising to the Federal Election Commission, did not release his cash-on-hand total as of June 30. But that haul is a sharp increase from what he raised in the first three months of the year. Aiken had just $74,000 in cash on hand as of April 16, a few weeks before the state’s May 6 primary.

At that point, Aiken was locked in a competitive Democratic primary with former North Carolina Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco, who died one week after the primary after falling outside his home.

Aiken is the Democratic nominee facing GOP Rep. Renee Ellmers in this heavily Republican district, which winds its way from Asheboro down to Fayetteville and then up to the suburbs of Raleigh.

Ellmers raised $396,000 in the second quarter, including numbers from her pre-primary report, which covered April 1-16. She reported $405,000 in the bank as of June 30.

Mitt Romney carried the 2nd District with 58 percent in 2012, making it a tough district for a Democrat to be competitive. The race is rated Safe Republican by Rothenberg Political Report/Roll Call.

The Washington Times – Clay Aiken outpaces GOP candidate in 2nd quarter fundraising

by Kellan Howell

Clay Aiken, congressional hopeful and former “American Idol” finalist, announced a successful second quarter of fundraising, outpacing GOP challenger Rep. Renee L. Ellmers.

Mr. Aiken, who is running in North Carolina’s 2nd District, reportedly raised over $450,000, almost $100,000 more than Mrs. Ellmers, who brought in $354,000.

The announcement demonstrates a drastic increase in fundraising from the first quarter, when he faced the Democratic primary with just $74,000 of cash on hand.
