Clay Aiken – Celebrate The Holidays

Nick at Nite is the evening programming broadcast at Nickelodeon. Nickelodeon is known for its children’s shows during the day, while Nick at Nite appeals to adult and teen audiences with a lineup of live-action sitcoms and specials.  Nick at Nite debuted on July 1, 1985.

On Friday, November 28, 2003 “The Nick at Nite Holiday Special” premiered.  Clay Aiken performed on the show and joined a star-studded cast that included Ted Danson, Martin Mull, Al Roker and many others.

The one-hour program took viewers to the “The Nick at Nite Lodge” as celebrity guests find their way there and meet up with the Lodge staff after the Big Blizzard of 2003 leaves them stranded at the airport. Hoping to get a room for the night, the stars come together and celebrate the holidays.

Clay Aiken performed “Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth” alongside 1962 footage of Bing Crosby, in a recreation of Crosby’s 1977 performance with David Bowie.  Other musical performances were given by Natalie Cole, Sarah McLachlan.  Amy Grant and Vince sang “Winter Wonderland” as a duet and Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald sang “On Christmas Morning.”

For Clay Aiken fans, the night was exciting and the audience was thrilled that Clay participated as an actor and musician.  There were lots of comments about the wonderful “tux.”

The program premiered on November 28th, but was shown many times during the 2003 holiday period.

  1. This has always been a favorite song of mine and to see him with Bing was wonderful. Perfect pairing as Bing was one of my favorite to listen to for Christmas. No one sings Christmas like Clay though.

His rendition of whatever song he sings has you hear it in a whole different way. As if the first time you heard it. He takes you away.

Merry Christmas With Love is beautiful and powerful.

  2. Yes, I watched it many times and recorded this duet on a CD by itself. I listen to it over and over again. Can't get tired of it. Thank you.

  3. yes I did see this special. I remember being surprised to see they picked this song to sing. This is one of my favorite Christmas songs ever. I absolutely love the version of this that Bing and David Bowie sing together. But Clay did an excellent job with this song. (Of course). I miss variety shows.
    thanks Martha

  7. Watching this brought back sweet memories of the beginning of Clay's entertainment journey, with every new opportunity and the excited screams of fans of every age. His star quality was never more evident than in this brilliant Christmas duet and the earnest little vignette that introduces it. Truly a pleasure for the eyes and years I. Hope we can enjoy forever, along with all the other special Christmas memories Clay has given us through his recordings and live performances! Thanks so much for reminding us of this very special gift!
