Clay Aiken – Music Is Pure Magic!

On Thursday, I spent more time than I should, listening to Clay Aiken sing. I started with Perfect Day, then clicked on Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You. I had to listen to Something About Us more times than I could count. And, since its almost the holidays, I enjoyed All Is Well and The Christmas Waltz. Yep…it was a good day!

What this did was make me hunt for some answers.

What is Music? Why am I so touched?

Why do I feel better after listening?

Music is what life sounds like. ~Eric Olson

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

He who sings scares away his woes. ~Cervantes

In music the passions enjoy themselves. ~Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil, 1886

What is music? Music is pure magic. It is a wonderful gift to humanity. Music moves us, and soothes us. It stimulates. It makes us want to dance or sing. It makes us feel happy or sad, inspired or uplifted. It affects our mood in all kinds of infinite ways. It can be exquisitely subtle or wildly raucous: from lullaby, to a war cry for revolution.

Music also tells stories, breaks hearts, reduces us to tears, or seduces us into falling in love, over and over and over again. Music is a universal language. A human creation from a divine source… perhaps.

Music is a mystery, a code. A vehicle of spirit and soul. It is perceived through ‘hearing’ the vibration of sound, the most sublime resonance – from the eardrum to the brain. Music moves us beyond intellect to the heart-centre… ~ Annie Lennox

  1. I listen to his Christmas song the most (all year long). Favorite- Don't Save it all for Christmas day. You are right I always feel good when listening to any of Clay's songs. I do wish we would hear what he has planned for his future. I know it will be great.

    • I listen to Clay songs every night I love them all. Great voice and a really outstanding person. I always feel better listening to him sing. I hope he hasn't given up on singing.

  2. I love listening to music, it does make me feel better especially Clay's music, so soothing. It's hard to pick out a particular song but Perfect Day is one of them, i love them all. Thanks Musicfan. xox

  3. I'll listen to one of Clay's songs over and over for a few days, and then find something new in another of his songs. I guess it depends on my mood or what is going on in my life at the time.
But I always know that Clay can lift my mood or sooth my soul. So I just say that I love his Voice, whatever way he is using it.

  4. Have to say – I listen to recordings from shows mostly. Just find them more connected than studio albums from Clay. I love The Way, Going to Carolina Oh Come Emanuel and Good News. Also one of his old songs, Not Supposed To Love You Anymore. Heck, I definitely like most of Clay's songs just think some are over produced in the studio. I like his raw voice and less orchestraish sound.

  5. My workplace has Clay on the central ipod playlist. A few months ago I took a poll to see which ones everyone liked (I like them all so I was excluded from the poll). These got the most votes: On My Way Here, Solitaire, Crying, Lonely No More, and Mary Did You Know.
