Clay Aiken – Giving Back to His Home State

The Mycenaean is a student-run newspaper from Raleigh, North Carolina. Its writers, editors and audience attend Leesville Road High School.  Today, December 15th, the newspaper posted a wonderful interview with Clay Aiken who, by the way, is an alumni of Leesville Road High School.

MYCENAEAN EXCLUSIVE: CLAY AIKEN REFLECTS ON LIFE, POLITICS, CAREER TO DATE

…Aiken, born and raised in North Carolina, ran for Congress in an effort to give back to his home state–to use everything at his disposal to help people in his community, though this campaign was certainly not his first attempt at helping others. Running for office–despite his defeat–was just a new way of doing it.

“People being able to say that I have used the microphone that I got to bring attention to things that weren’t getting attention brought to them, to be able to tell people’s stories, to be able to get folks to be engaged in issues they normally wouldn’t be engaged in… lives a lot longer than any CD sales,” said Aiken…

It is always fun to see a wonderful, positive interview and article about Clay.  The kids are amazing and did a wonderful job.  I hope we let them know that!!

  2. This is a well written article about Clay in the Myceaean. Glad to see the students involved in the paper, current events and of course Clay. I just came back from a trip to Greece and we toured Mycenae. Wonder if that is the basis for the students paper's name.

  3. They did a great job with this interview with Clay. Hopefully these students will be inspired to also work to make the world a better place.
