Clay Aiken – A Haircut, A Reunion, Lots of Sun and Anticipation!

Today, an interesting article was posted at the Smithfield Herald.  The reporter, Colin Campbell also writes for the NewsObserver.com

The article is titled:

CCAMPBELL@NEWSOBSERVER.COM

The article is about Clay’s cousin, Jamie O’Branovich who recently opened a new salon in Smithfield called Salon 29:11.

Clay was in the salon last week for a haircut and was visited by Campbell.  He wrote:

While Aiken was a runner-up on the show, he’s had one of the more successful careers among its former contestants. He tours the country regularly, and he’s often brought O’Branovich along to keep his hair in shape. Aiken even introduced her to some of his friends in the music industry.

She’s since been on tour with David Foster and others, getting the chance to do hair and makeup for a number of celebrities. These days, though, she’s busy with the new salon and a new baby, and she’ll miss Aiken’s coast-to-coast Christmas tour later this year. He had to let others handle his hair during his recent stint on “Celebrity Apprentice” too.

Did you read that?  Did you see the bolded comment above?  We can only hope that a Christmas Tour is really going to happen and that we will get news about the tour soon.

It was nice to see a new article about Clay Aiken and the National Inclusion Project Champion Gala at Idol Chatter.

Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard back together for a good cause this fall

Clay Aiken has announced the guests who will perform at the National Inclusion Project’s 9th annual Champions Gala.

And the list includes his former rival on Season 2 of American Idol — Ruben Studdard.

The event is set for Oct. 20 at the National Theater in Washington, D.C.

Clay and each of the guests will perform that evening as part of the fundraiser.

In addition to Ruben … well, I guess you could call the other guests former rivals, too.

Those guests include Debbie Gibson, Arsenio Hall and Dee Snider, all competitors with Clay on the recent season of Celebrity Apprentice.

For those who didn’t follow along, Arensio won; Clay finished second.

The National Inclusion Project — Clay is a co-founder — pushes for the inclusion of children with disabilities in community activities.

For more information on organization and the gala, including ticket information, head here.

Oh, and this will hardly be the first time Clay and Ruben have worked together since Idol.

Back in the summer of 2010, after the release of Clay’s “Tried and True” album, they toured together.

June 20st is the summer solstice and the longest day of the year. This is the day when the North Pole is tilted closest to the sun and nightfall is late in the evening. After the 20th, the days will get shorter by about a minute or so each day until we reach the autumnal equinox, when day and night become even. That means that celebration is in order because after today, summer, as quick as it began, will be slowly coming to an end. Times ‘a tickin’ so let’s get the party started.

Summer Solstice is the meteorological start of summer. It’s time to enjoy vacations, great weather, pools, baseballs, and everything else that goes along with the favorite season of kids and most adults. Grab your favorite beverage and enjoy the season, because for many of us it is all too short.

Fun Facts:

  • Awed by the great power of the sun, civilizations have for centuries celebrated the first day of summer otherwise known as the Summer Solstice, Midsummer (see Shakespeare), St. John’s Day, or the Wiccan Litha.
  • The Celts & Slavs celebrated the first day of summer with dancing & bonfires to help increase the sun’s energy. The Chinese marked the day by honoring Li, the Chinese Goddess of Light.
  • Perhaps the most enduring modern ties with Summer Solstice were the Druids’ celebration of the day as the “wedding of Heaven and Earth”, resulting in the present day belief of a “lucky” wedding in June.
  • Today, the day is still celebrated around the world – most notably in England at Stonehenge and Avebury, where thousands gather to welcome the sunrise on the Summer Solstice.
  • Pagan spirit gatherings or festivals are also common in June, when groups assemble to light a sacred fire, and stay up all night to welcome the dawn.

Are you excited about the possibility of a Christmas Tour?    Do you have a special holiday song you would like Clay to sing?

  1. Happy 1st Day of Summer Everyone!!!!!
Loved the article about Clay visiting his cousin Jamie. It's nice to see her again. The added anticipation of a possible Christmas Tour sounds wonderful!!!! Hope!!!! It's been 5 years since we've had a Christmas Tour….I am really looking forward to it. One of my favourite Christmas songs, was sung by The Carpenters, and that was "Little Drummer Boy". I would love to hear Clay sing that, but I know I love all Christmas music, so I'll be happy!!!

    • Oh, gosh, I forgot about that — one of my fave songs, yes. Did you see where Nick at Nite had him sing in "duet" with Bing Crosby? It's great! Look for the YouTube called "Clay and Bing Crosby", I'm listening right now…

  2. This post was just crammed with information. Thanks so much for alerting us to the possibility of a Christmas tour. I’ve been hoping for that. Clay’s hair has been looking fantistic since his stint on Clebrity Apprentice. Guess we can thank his cousin for the new style.

  3. Crossing my fingers for a tour. Good thing Clay got a hair cut its been two minutes since the last change. (kidding!). 🙂

  4. happy 1st day of summer everyone iliked the articile about clay visiting his cousin jamie its verry nice to see her again and the added antisapation of a christmas tour sounds amazing hope it is infact 5 years since there has been a christmas tour one of my fav christmas songs is oh holy night

  5. If he tours anywhere close to Wisconsin I'll make a point to be there. I missed the Tnt and Timeless tours due to the invention of the DVR, my lack of interest in entertainment news shows, and limited facebook activity. Well I got facebook now and saw Clay on CA by chance when my DVR went kaputz and I had to flip channels for the first time in years. (divine intervention? maybe!) Major bummed I missed so much including two CDs. It's been a blast catching up and I have the CDs now. Extras for Xmas presents. Discovered Clack Unlimited and your site. Never signed up for the Fan Club cause that's for teeny boppers but now I know I can get news that way. I'll be signing up soon. As for CA – I wanted to sit him down and run a comb through his hair. Now we know why it was such a mess – His cousin wasn't there and I bet he slept in and missed the make up trailer on a few episodes – just saying. . . Major happy to be adicted to Clay again.

    • Haha, yeah, we all noticed The Hair on CApp! You're right, I bet, about his sleeping in — I would do, days going from 5:30AM to 11:30PM, yikes! But he got kudos from reviewers coz he obviously cared more about the charities than his "image"!

      • If I'm going to be totally honest I would sleep in too! Glad reviewers picked up on his priorities – charity over glamour. I would also add charity over his own celebrity. He didn't spend his tv exposure on branding himself like every other contestant. Did anyone notice his great line in clays take on Capp website about Aubrey bragging about her double platniums in the jungle challenge. I think he summed that point up in the right place. And people wonder why we like him!

  6. I just love that article where Clay is getting the haircut from Jamie, his cousin. She is just as pretty as ever. What really stood out for me were the words: CHRISTMAS TOUR. OMG! That made my whole week so much better. One of my most favorite songs is O Holy Night, Mary Did You Know and Welcome To My World. But, of course, I will love any new songs he wants to add. Nobody sings Christmas like Clay.

  7. Thank you for all the great info, musicfan! Loved the article about him and Jamie and some of their history behind the scenes… the Idol article was a bit terse but good to see one about him from them, and your info about The Sun was fascinating. I'd enjoy building a fire and watching a sunrise, for awesome beauty of nature.
OMGosh, a Christmas tour at last, maybe??? Hallelujah!! Le'ts hope and pray. I agree, Clay singing anything is wonderful, but his Christmas carols are really special. I adore them all — but maybe Merry Christmas With Love, Silent Night, O Holy Night, Mary Did You Know, The Christmas Song, All is Well, What Are You Doing New Year's Eve, Don't Save It All For Christmas Day, and Good News lead the pack, and of course in concert it's such fun to hear Celebrate Me Home!!

    • Of course you can post the link here. One of the best things about Clay fans is that they share!!

  8. So excited like all of the rest of the Clayfans – I've been to all of the Christmas Concerts except one –
I missed the very first one! We had tickets, but at the last minute, my Mom's illness prevented us of
going. It was okay – I have made up for it since!!! I love MDYK, All is well, and Oh Holy Night – but
all of the others are wonderful, too! If Clay is singing – that's all I need! Loved the article on Jamie
and Clay – thanks, Musicfan, for the Summer Info – very interesting along with the NIP and guests
    info.

  9. Yes I am excited about news of a Christmas Tour. A song close to my heart that Clay does so well is "All Is Well" . Would love to hear him sing it on tour again.
