In 2007, Clay Aiken was in the studio, trying to be Smarter Than A 5th Grader.
Clay appeared during sweeps week in a celebrity edition of the show. All celebrities were guaranteed $25,000, but tried to win up to $1 million.
Each contestant was given eleven questions to answer correctly to win the million. It was no surprise to see Clay answering correctly for the first nine questions. He chose to walk away when he had some hesitation about the tenth question. He walked away with $300,000 for the Bubel-Aiken Foundation(The National Inclusion Project). Clay commented that the money would fund 30 summer camps in 2008.
Clay did very well. The following are the amounts won by all the celebrities during the week.
Clay Aiken 350,000
Miss America 2007, Lauren Nelson 175,000
Tony Hawk 175,000
Regis Philbin 175,000
Kellie Pickler 50,000
Billy Bush 25,000 (guessed and was wrong on the 300K question)
Sit back, get a cup of coffee and watch the fun video of Clay on the show. The video starts with a interview with Clay about the show, but ends with some snippets of the show. The video shows quite a bit of the show!
It’s been a few years, but it still is fun to see this!
Clay is a smart man and I am glad he was able to make so much money
for the National Inclusion Project!
Remember watching Clay on this show and was very excited to see him do so well. I was very proud of him – like he was one of our family! He provided us with quite an array of interesting TV events. He is a man of many talents and gave his fans so much over the last 15 years!
Thank you, Clay!
Thank you Martha for all that you do, too!
This is one of my favorites shows that Clay appeared on! I was glued to my seat watching him answer those questions and hoping he would be the first million dollar winner; nevertheless he walked away from the next -to- last question. Still very proud of OMC and what a fun show!
It was fun to watch Clay again on that show. I'm glad he changed his hair color & cut after that.

I was able to go to the taping. Was there with a few friends. My first time at a television taping. We were seated in the front row of the upper level. Fun, nail biting times. We were all very proud of how well he did. Afterward we all went to the Cheesecake Factory at the Grove to celebrate. Seems like a lifetime ago.
That sounds like so much fun!!!
