It was a Wednesday and Clay was exhausted. Where was he? What was he doing? When did he get to sleep?
Oh, yes! It was May 28, 2003 and Clay Aiken was in New York. He was a special guest on Good Morning America. He was going to be interviewed and sing. Sleep is over-rated!
This fun show introduced Clay to Diane Sawyer who admitted that she was an “obsessed” fan.
Charlie Gibson was Diane’s co-anchor on the show and they had a good time talking about Clay throughout the show. The Diane interviewed Clay. She stated that she was surprised at how tall Clay was. They also talked about how Clay’s life had changed in such a short time. Diane also asked Clay about the foundation that he wanted to set up. It was a thorough interview and Clay seemed more relaxed than at previous shows.
Clips of Clay singing “I Can’t Help Myself”, “On The Wings of Love”, and “Bridge Over Troubled Water” on American Idol were shown. The highlight of the show was a live performance of Clay singing “This Is The Night”.
Clay was a bit of a hero that morning or perhaps he just swept Diane off her feet. Clay caught Diane as she lost her footing and almost fell.
Good Morning America was over, but there was still no sleep for Clay. After a quick change of clothes, Clay headed to another studio for his first interview and performance on Live With Regis and Kelly. Jeff Gordon was the guest host. Clay chatted about singing and American Idol. He also admitted his desire to do a movie with Ruben. Clay then performed his first single, “This Is The Night” and thrilled the audience.
Do you think that now the elusive sleep was finally allowed to catch up with Clay.
The following is a video of Clay singing on Good Morning America.
Thnx for the May 2003 memories! Even though he was tired, Clay Aiken was amazing on GMA. His interviews are always interesting, and his singing is matchless — even early in the morning.
Thank you for your kind remarks in the Carolina blog. Have an awesome week!
He looked so sweet that morning – all sleepy eyed 🙂
I like Clay Aiken any time in the day though!
Clay Aiken is ALWAYS a wonderful interview!! Thanks so much for the walk down memory lane 🙂 he and Diane have always had a special bond.
Loved the walk down memory lane. Those were such exciting days for the fandom. Clay Aiken will forever be my Idol.
Always love to re-live the early years with clay Aiken. Thank you.
Some much fun then. Clay Aiken is a lot of fun to follow, and I’ll be doing that for many years to come.
This was an exciting time. Looking forward to more exciting times with Clay Aiken.
That was wonderful to watch and read about again….He sure did look tired, but you’d never know it in the performance…He sounded great!!!
This is so much fun watching Clay at the beginning…..He certainly is the best there is!!!!! and still going strong…..
Who could have blamed Diane Sawyer for losing her footing around Clay? That voice sweeps me off my feet every time I hear it. 🙂 I love Clay’s singing and I’m eagerly awaiting his next musical project, whatever it might be.
I just love Clay Aiken, and hoping for good times to come soon!
This was before I started watching and taping everything Clay on tv. Was away and didn’t see it, so thanks!! This must have been when Diane Sawyer became a “Claymate.” She sure has good taste–she knows an idol when she sees one. How wonderful that Clay and Diane still seem to keep in touch.
Loved your Clay Aiken blog!
Ahhhhhh memories – wonderful Clay Aiken memories. I can’t wait to see what new memories he’s got in store for us.
Thanks for a recap of Clay’s appearances. Loved hearing TITN!
Thank you for posting this… I missed it originally.. I was travelling to and from Hawaii back in 2003 the last week in May.. but I can’t believe I haven’t ever seen this..
Thank you so very much for this wonderful video. I loved all the teenie-boppers that were so in love with Clay. So cute!! Incredible how Clay and Dianne are still the best of friends. Clay knows how to keep his friendships. Loved hearing TITN again.
Excellent …………. I love when you post memories!!! Love it.
I have all the shows he did on an old VHS tape. I should get it out and watch it again. Even then Clay was great at doing interviews-just a natural. He had to be exhausted at that time, but he sang like the pro he is. You could tell Diane was smitten by Clay even then. I am glad they became good friends. Thanks for the memories!
Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I love blogs about Clay Aiken’s journey. I’ve been with him from the beginning and can’t wait to see what he’s going to do next!
Wonderful Clay Aiken memories! Thanks!
