Clay Aiken – Happy Father’s Day

Sonra Louise Smart Dodd of Spokane, WA started the observance of the Father’s Day on the 19th of June, in 1910. She wanted to express her thanks to her own father, who had reared her on his own, since the death of her mother.  Her father, Henry Jackson Dodd celebrated his birthday in June, thus, she chose this month to celebrate the holiday.

In 1936, a National Father’s Day Committee was formed and Father’s Day  was recognized by a Joint Resolution of Congress in 1956.

President Richard Nixon in 1972, established a permanent national observance of Father’s Day and the third Sunday in June was chosen as the date for its observance here in the United States as well, as Canada.

What Makes A Dad

God took the strength of a mountain, The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun, The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature, The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages, The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring, The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity, The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities, When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it … Dad
