Now that Thanksgiving is over, can we listen to Christmas Music ??
Well, to be honest, I have been listening to Christmas music for a couple of weeks already.
On 11/28/03, Clay Aiken performed a song on television by Katherine K. Davis. Carol of the Drum was originally a Czech song that Ms. Davis translated to English in 1941. Ms. Davis said:
…the words practically wrote themselves.
The song became famous when the well-known Von Trapp Family Singers recorded it. We know the song today as The Little Drummer Boy.
On 11/28/03 Clay appeared on Nick at Nite’s Holiday Special on Nickelodeon. Playing himself, the story found Clay stranded in a snowstorm and making a stop at a comfortable countryside inn. Clay watched Bing Crosby’s Christmas special on TV and imagined himself singing a duet with the famous singer. With some amazing special effects, the dream came true and Clay joined Bing in singing the “Little Drummer Boy”.
And Katherine K Davis?? She left all royalties and proceeds from her compositions, which include operas, choruses, children’s operettas, cantatas, piano and organ pieces, and songs, to Wellesley College’s Music Department. And…..on a personal note, Ms. Davis was a good friend of my mother who also wrote music for children.
The following video shows Clay as he sings with Bing Crosby. Even with all the “magic” special effects, the music and singing is amazing!
This video is a great way to begin the Christmas music season. I didn't see this program live, but I have watched the youtube video many time over the years. Clay was so young back then (so were we).
TWO PHENOMENAL CROONERS! This song has always warmed my Christmas. I will forever cherish the evening when Clay appeared with Bing Crosby via the magic of video. Clay's vocal was exquisite. There is no better way to welcome in the holidays!
I will be attending Clay's Christmas concert in December and am so pleased he will be sharing his love and marvelous voice once again. Many blessings to you, Clay!
So glad you will get to the concert. I will be there too!
As I have already stated: Christmas and Clay are the best combination. That voice puts me into the Holiday Spirit! Love the memories of OMC! Thank you, for sharing!
I am so excited! I will be going to the Christmas concert after all! I've had a rough month; lost my two older kitties. And, next month I will be having knee replacement surgery. I told my husband that I'd like to go to the concert and he is using his Delta airline and Marriott points! He can't afford to go because of work, but my daughter will be going with me. I can't tell you how excited and happy I am!!!
Paula, I am having knee replacement Dec 6. I hope both of our surgeries go well. Good luck to you. I didn’t think it would be possible to make that trip. Be sure to tell us everything when you get back.
I saw Clay & Bing on the original tv airing. It was so impressive. It must be the best Christmas music video ever! I have watched it many times. I ordered an extra copy of Clay’s Christmas CD so I could keep one in the car. I also have been listening to Christmas music for a couple of weeks. Is there any news on Jerome? I hope I didn’t miss a post. God be with Jerome & Clay . ❤️ UNCONDITIONAL love for you Clay.
No news about Jerome. If I get any news, I will post it!
Judy, Good luck with your surgery too! Hope we both recover well with our brand new knees! I also love that video with the two of them.
I also hope and pray for Jerome to have good recovery.
