Clay Aiken – Listen To The Lyrics

On Wednesday, I was saddened to learn that Leslie Bricusse had past away. Leslie was an artist in the field of writing Music. He had written more than 40 musical shows and films.

According to his biography, Leslie was one of the few persons who wrote the music to both stage and screen. He was nominated for 10 oscars, nine Grammys and 4 Tonys. I was amazed at all the shows he has written….. songs I knew well.

Clay Aiken sang one of Leslies songs and it is beautiful.

I looked today to find an article about Clay that I wrote a few years ago. I am not re-writing the article….I hope you enjoy it….Dates might be wrong. “What Kind of Fool Am I”

I hope you enjoy the info and the music.

Have any of you ever seen the musical, Stop The World – I Want To Get Off ?  This show introduced a very special song to the world. Written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, the song was…What Kind of Fool Am I?

The poignant song was performed at the end of the 2nd act and closed the show.

The song won the 1963 Grammy Award for the Song of The Year and the Novello Award for the best musical and lyrical song.

Anthony Newley introduced the song, but it became a hit for Sammy Davis, Jr. and peaked at #17 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Andy Williams also included the song on his album, Days of Wine and Roses.

The last part of this song has such sad, but beautiful lyrics…

What Kind of Fool Am I?

What kind of clown am I

What do I know of life

Why can’t I cast away

This mask of play

And live my life

Why can’t I fall in love

Till I don’t give a damn

And maybe then I’ll know

What kind of fool I am
