Clay Aiken – The Entrance of A Star!

The musical group, Mr. Mister was formed in 1982 by bassist/lead vocalist Richard Page and keyboardist/vocalist Steve George. The two men grew up as friends in Phoenix, Arizona and both became sessions musicians.

Page and George played together for many years and sang back-up for many well-known musicians.  They were on tour with Andy Gibb when the decided to start their own band.

Guitarist, Steve Farris and drummer Pat Mastelotto joined with the others to create Mr. Mister and the group quickly landed a deal with RCA.

Welcome To The Real World was their 2nd album and was released in 1985.  The first single was Broken Wings, followed by Kyrie. Both songs climbed all the way to the top of the pop charts and the album reached platinum sales.

Mr. Mister went on to record a third album, but it did not take off and it wasn’t long before the group disbanded.  All of the musicians continued in the field of music and each one was successful in their own field.

I will never forget the excitement when Clay Aiken entered from the back of the stadiums, singing Kyrie…it was the entrance of a Star!  I was lucky enough to see the show with both my husband and son.  They both remember the concert with excitement and fond memories.

Did you see Clay sing Kyrie live?  Did you see it more than once?  Would you like Clay to record the song?

Kyrie eleison
Kyrie eleison, kyrie

The wind blows hard
Against this mountainside
Across the sea into my soul
It reaches into where I cannot hide
Setting my feet upon the road

My heart is old
It holds my memories
My body burns a gemlike flame
Somewhere between
The soul and soft machine
Is where I find myself again

Kyrie eleison
Down the road that I must travel
Kyrie eleison
Through the darkness of the night
Kyrie eleison
Where I’m going, will you follow
Kyrie eleison
On a highway in the light

When I was young
I thought of growing old
Of what my life
Would mean to me

Would I have followed
Down my chosen road
Or only wished
What I could be

Kyrie eleison
Down the road that I must travel
Kyrie eleison
Through the darkness of the night
Kyrie eleison
Where I’m going, will you follow
Kyrie eleison
On a highway in the light

  1. Oh! Yes – it is my fondest wish that Clay would record this. I, too, along with my son was in
Detroit at the Joe Louis Auditorium when Clay came out from we didn't know where, singing Kyrie.
There was so much excitement in that building for the very first concert with Kelly Clarkson. We
finally saw the spotlight at the entrance right below where we were sitting. I still get chills remembering that first glimpse of him live, singing that song. It will never be forgotten. He sang it
again at the 1st Solo Concert in Cleveland – also just great – but that 1st time – Major Chills!!

  2. I love Clay singing Kyrie and Broken Wings is one of my favorite songs from ATDW. He really sounds great in both songs.

  3. What a great entrance!!!!!! I would love a proper recording of Kyrie by Clay… I've come to the conclusion, that Clay can sing anything…and I would buy anything he sings…He's just that good.

  4. Oh Yeah! Would love a full recording of Kyrie…along with some new songs of course. Clay can sing any Genre of music…and sing it well. Those were exciting times…but, any time Clay is up on that stage is an exciting time for me.

  5. How well I remember that night when I first saw Clay in person. I had just had ankle surgery and hopped to my seat on crutches in the upper deck of the arena in Columbus. When Clay's voice first came out of the darkness, I thought my heart would leap out of my chest! Loved Kyrie and couldn't wait to go to work the next day and tell everybody about it. He even sang When Doves Cry by Prince! Clay can (and does) sing anything!

  6. I didnt see the Independent Tour, since I didnt have a computer then and didnt know a "Clay world" existed after AI2 ended. Finally, after being encouraged by a friend and awakened to the Clay Solo Tour concerts for the first time in Jackson, Michigan, my life has never been the same. I will never forget the excitement of Clay singing Kyrie. Oh, hoiw I miss the Mother Ship!

  7. I love the title………it fits so well with Clay's entrance singing Kyrie.

Lots of things I didn't know about Mr. Mister. Glad the musicians had a good career after the end of their band.

I am missing Clay and these looks into the past help!!

    Thank you!!

  8. I thought #4 might have been Zootopia, but really wasn't sure. Next time I will post my guesses. I saw the Kyrie entrance only once and it was very exciting. I'm totally in favor of Clay recording it.

  9. I would love for Clay to record Kyrie. I saw his entrance twice. It was so exciting to have him come from the rear of the arena to a packed house singing that song, It just took my breathe away. I
remember it like it was yesterday. Great , great memories. Thanks so much for writing about this song.

  10. I sure saw Clay enter singing " Kyrie Elieson" and saw it more than once. It was so incredibly exciting. You really called it: the entrance of a Star (but I think it gave Jerome fits!)
I would love to have a proper studio recording of that!

  11. I’ve read some just right stuff here. Certainly worth bookmarking for revisiting. I wonder how so much attempt you set to make this type of wonderful informative website.
