Clay Aiken – A Night In Casablanca

The Year: 1923 The Song: Who’s Sorry Now? The composers: Ted Snyder, Bert Kalmer and Harry Ruby.

I bet these talented men never envisioned their project sung in so many different styles as it is on the Tried & True Tour. Clay Aiken is a genius for thinking of this funny section of his tour concerts.

Who’s Sorry Now? was featured in the film, A Night in Casablanca. This 1946 movie starred The Marx Brothers. The song has been recorded many times. The most famous recording was by Connie Francis in 1958. Other artists who have recorded the song include Ella Fitzgerald, Marie Osmond, Harry Connick, Jr. and, of course, Clay Aiken.

The following videos show the different styles of Who’s Sorry Now? that were performed in Westbury, New York last year. A big thank you to Clay and all the band members and a huge HUG and Thank you to Scarlett for getting these clips.

Clay Aiken – Perfect For Valentine’s Day

Today is Valentine’s Day!  Last year, Clay Aiken was performing at Jones Hall in Houston, Texas.  The concert was part of Aiken’s Tried & True Tour.  In part of the PR that was a part of this Valentine’s Concert, Clay said that all the music would be love songs and it was perfect for Valentine’s Day.  He said:

…Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come and show their love of the person that they are with, regardless of who they are and who they are with. I hope to see everyone there.

My two favorite love songs that Clay Aiken sings are Something About Us and Bring Back My Love.  They both should be heard many times today!!  What is your favorite Love song that Clay sings?

Did you know that:

  • Approximately 141 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually?
  • Women purchase 85% of all Valentines.
  • The first commercial Valentine’s card was produced in 1840
  • Since red stands for strong feelings, the red rose is a flower of love.

Since 2005, Clay Aiken and Valentine’s Day have never quite been the same.  Most fans of Clay Aiken will always remember the excitement that filled our televisions and hearts when we watched Clay and Jimmy Kimmel celebrate Valentine’s Day together that February.

Surrounded by the love of his fans, Clay took the stage with a huge smile on his face. Both Jimmy and Clay seemed amazed and somewhat awed by the amount of gifts that were brought by Clay’s fans.  There were red and white balloons, flowers, cute stuffed animals and lots and lots of pizza.  Jimmy commented that there were even more gifts backstage.

There was no doubt that Clay Aiken and Jimmy Kimmel were friends.  They chatted together and included the audience in their fun.  Their friendly banter made February 14th a day to remember.

Jimmy and Clay spent their second Valentine’s Day together in 2007.  As in the previous celebration, Clay’s fans enthusiastically greeted Clay and had a good laugh when Clay gifted Jimmy with a shirt with his picture on it.

The highlight of the evening was a wonderful Valentine song that Clay performed while picking through candy hearts.  It was sweet, funny, and original, all at the same time.

Thank you to Clay Aiken and Jimmy Kimmel for making Valentine’s Day special and memorable.

Would you like to re-live those two special nights?  If so, please click on the videos.  They are special performances and are guaranteed to make you smile.

On Thursday, February 9, 2012, Decca Records updated the artist page for Clay Aiken on their website.  Besides a bio,  photos, a list of Decca releases, and a small audio player, the site announced the release of Steadfast, Clay’s new CD.  Scheduled to be released in late March, Clay’s new single, Bring Back My Love is featured on the album.

Decca also released a press release that was picked up by many of the major entertainment news sites.  The press release was exciting to see and my favorite paragraph said:

In revisiting these meaningful interpretations Clay was also inspired to record a completely original, new song that could stand up to the classics. “Bring Back My Love,” captures the spirit of the older classics while reinforcing his commitment to a more traditional sound best suited to his own personal style. Overall, Steadfast again demonstrates Aiken’s considerable talents, notably flawless vocals delivered with passion and sincerity.

Now, that sounds good to me!  You can visit Clay’s page at Decca by clicking on DECCA.  Be sure a leave a comment at the site to let Decca know we are excited about Clay’s new music.

Playbill was one of the first sites to publish a short article about the release of Steadfast.  It is rather short, but nice:

Steadfast,” a newly packaged collection of heartfelt songs from Clay Aiken, the “American Idol” finalist who made his Broadway debut in Monty Python’s Spamalot, will be released March 29 on Decca.

“Steadfast” revisits the best of Aiken’s 2010 release “Tried and True,” featuring selected cuts from that record alongside a newly recorded, original song/radio single “Bring Back My Love.” Rounding out the disc are covers of Neil Sedaka’s “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” and Connie Francis’ “Who’s Sorry Now.” “Steadfast” arrives on the heels of Aiken’s upcoming appearance as a contestant on the new season of NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice,” which premieres Feb. 19.

Songs on the recording also include “Unchained Melody,” ”Moon River” and “It’s Impossible,” among others. “These musical gems have stood the test of time, and I am incredibly proud and privileged to have had the opportunity to make them my own,” Aiken said in a statement. “I stand by this recording ‘steadfastly,’ which is why I chose the title and how I feel about moving forward in my career in general – being focused and steadfast.”

Aiken — who was bested by Ruben Studdard during the second season of “American Idol” — has gone on to sell more than six million albums, co-author a best selling book (“Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life”) and play numerous sold-out concert tours. He was a focus of the short-lived Off-Broadway musical Idol: The Musical and has appeared on “Ed,” “Saturday Night Live” and “Scrubs.”

For more information visit www.deccarecords.com.

You can see the article at PLAYBILL

The website LALATE has always been a source for positive Clay news…the ended their article by saying:

“I stand by this recording ‘steadfastly,’ which is why I chose the title and how I feel about moving forward in my career in general – being focused and steadfast” Aiken said in a news statement today.

You can read the entire article at LALATE

Other sites that featured the release of Steadfast included:

Yahoo – Clay Aiken To Release New Album  YAHOO

HitFix – Release to Coincide With Celebrity Apprentice  HITFIX

BroadwayWorld – Clay Aiken’s Steadfast  BROADWAYWORLD

And Many more…

Clay also received some great publicity regarding his up-coming appearance as a  Judge for  a prestigious singing competition at Carnegie Hall.   The website, Operagasm wrote the following about Clay:

MASTER SINGER COMPETITION WITH NICO CASTEL AND CLAY AIKEN

New York, NY … Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) and the New York Opera Studio (NYOS) are pleased to announce that Clay Aiken of American Idol fame and beloved popular entertainer will join the prestigious jury for theNico Castel International 2012 Master Singer Finalist Concert on Saturday, February 18 at 8:00pm at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Since coming to national attention on the second season of American Idol in 2003, Clay Aiken has sold more than six million albums, written a New York Times bestselling memoir, produced and hosted television programs, and starred on Broadway. Set to appear on this year’sCelebrity Apprentice (Series Premiere February 19 on NBC), Aiken will offer his unique experience and perspective to the jury and competitors. Aiken will also join DCINY as a Special Guest for an evening of choral music, Reflections of Life, on Monday, February 20 at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium.

There was one more quick mention of Clay on TV on Thursday.  On HGTV, they showed a quick picture of a beautiful home in Durham, North Carolina.  They asked the audience if the house belonged to Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, or Fantasia.  After a commercial break, they revealed that the home belonged to Clay and they showed a nice picture of him.  Important?  No.  Fun?  Yes!!

It is always great to see so much PR for Clay.  I do hope that you will visit as many sites as you can and leave a comment when possible.  Comments are a way of letting the site and the author know that you appreciate reading positive articles about Clay Aiken.

What a great time we are going to have this spring!!  Are you ready?

The College of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte has a fine reputation. Currently, the College enrolls over 3000 undergraduate and graduate students in professional education programs. Their programs are nationally accredited and approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

UNCC College of Education

The UNCC College of Education has received many honors and has accomplished many things that make them proud:

  • The College of Education received the Urban Impact Award from the Council of the Great City Schools in 2006
  • The special education faculty is ranked in the top ten nationally in terms of scholarly productivity
  • 687 UNC Charlotte alumni are National Board Certified Teachers
  • The Department of Counseling received the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2008 and the “Program of the Year” Award from the Southeastern Association of Counselor Education and Supervision in 2007
  • Last year UNC Charlotte produced over 623 new teachers, the second highest number among North Carolina’s 47 colleges and universities. 73% of these graduates are now teaching in North Carolina’s public schools. A total of 6,427 UNC Charlotte alumni are currently teaching in North Carolina’s schools.

UNC Charlotte publishes a magazine for the College of Education. In the fall of 2007, this popular publication featured an article about Clay Aiken. Titled, “Measure of a Man,” the article calls Clay their most famous alumnus. The article highlights Clay’s work with his foundation and how important he feels it is to educate people about Inclusion.

The article is a nice read and features a 4 page spread which includes two beautiful pictures;  one from Clay’s professional life and one from his UNICEF work.

If you have trouble reading the article, remember to click on the photo and it will enlarge to make it easier to see.

Clay Aiken – Word of The Day – SPECULATION!!

Six months ago, did you ever think that you would be hunting for Tweets about Celebrity Apprentice?  Did you ever think before the season started who the contestants were going to be or what they had to do?  Probably not…until this season and the fact that Clay Aiken is one of the stars of the show.

Whether you are a fan of Donald Trump or not, the show looks to be exciting.  The business-savvy celebrity contestants are working towards raising money for their various charities.  Not only will the final winner be crowned The Celebrity Apprentice, but he or she will also have the honor of delivering a huge bonus check to their designated charity.  Last season, the bonus check was $250,000

All of the celebrities have been competing in business-driven tasks around New York City.  They have been subjected to long hours, grueling mental challenges, personality clashes, and intense scrutiny…all without the help of their regular support system of agents, managers, and personal assistants.

On Monday, it seemed like many of the fans were hunting for clues as to what was going on.  The following are a few of the clues via Twitter that were found.  I thought that since so many of us don’t know New York it might be fun to see the corresponding spot the tweet described.

My friend just spotted Arsenio Hall and Clay Aiken shopping at Steven Alan together… How random is that?

Well…what do you think?  Will we find out more about this project today?  It’s hard to think that a “snuggie” and a trip to Steven Alan could be for the same episode but what do I know!!

Nobody can ever say that being a Clay Aiken fan is boring…even if we don’t get anymore information, think of the fun it has been the last couple of weeks…the theme right now is SPECULATION!!

Just a reminder…Have you voted at the Pepsi Refresh site today?  If not, take the time to add your votes to support The National Inclusion Project.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
