Patti Page, whose Tennessee Waltz is one of the best-selling recordings ever, died Tuesday in Encinitas, Calif. She was 85 years old.
Page sold millions of records although her music was called bland and unadventurous. Yet, she was one of the biggest recording artists of the decade.
According to Emily Langer at the WashingtonPost:
She sold 10 million copies of the country-infused “Tennessee Waltz” alone. That song, recorded by Mercury Records at the start of the 1950s, was expected to be a throwaway number and was relegated to the B-side of Boogie Woogie Santa Claus.
In the end, only Bing Crosby’s recording of “White Christmas” outsold Ms. Page’s lament of stolen love.
Some of her most popular songs were Old Cape Cod, Allegheny Moon, Cross Over the Bridge, and How Much Is That Doggie in the Window.
Page won her first Grammy in 1999, for Live at Carnegie Hall: The 50th Anniversary Concert, (most of her hits came out before the awards were created in 1959). She was scheduled to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s ceremony in February. According to a statement from The Recording Academy, she will be honored posthumously.

So sad that Patti will not be at the Grammy's to receive her Lifetime Achievement Award. I remember her well, growing up. Seems a lot of singers, back in the day, led quiet lives, and weren't always in the public eye. Seems to me, to be a much more rounded life. Like someone we know!!!!!!
I haven't tried Photofunia yet, but wouldn't mind giving it a try. I like all the pics, but I think I'll have to pick at least 2. #1 and #3.
I've seen many fans use this site. I haven't tried it yet…but I hear it's very easy! Sad to hear the news about Patti Page. Always loved her Doggie in the Window song.

All the pictures are terrific. Though I really enjoy looking at six times the three faces of Clay (last photo), my favorite is photo #2. It is a definite first look grabber – with no guessing who that handsome face belongs to.

I've never tried Photofunia…yet! I love the second picture but he's such a great subject to work with so I really love them all~ lol I'm not real familiar with Patti Page but I do know recognize a few of the songs mentioned.

I remember Patti Page quite well and loved all of her music. It was very, very popular. I used to be teased at the school bus stop because of my name being similar to hers. LOL. I remember my girlfriend having her records.
I love anything Clay Aiken and have trouble choosing, but thanks for the info about Photofunia.

I do remember Patti Page and the song I remember most was How Much Is That Doggie in the Window. She had an incredible voice.

I do love #2 the best. I like the Andy Worhal look of #3 and the shot in #5 of Clay in Japan. I do remember Patti Page…you have to be of a certain age to recall all of her music. (I'm there.)
