Last night, (February 19th, 2023} I turned on the TV and watched the first show of this years, American Idol. So…..I looked and remembered that I still had a blog about AI. So, remember the dates are different, but it still has pictures and a video of Clay Aiken. I hope you enjoy it.
The famous Television show, American Idol returns to television on Sunday, March 11 on ABC!
According to the American Idol website:
Idol alumni are responsible for 13 Grammys, over 61 million album sales, 47 Platinum records, 95 Gold records, 444 Billboard No. 1 hits, 257 million digital downloads, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award.
That is an amazing part of contemporary music.
I really enjoyed watching American Idol during the early years. I loved watching the young performers grow each week and become real stars. But…when the judges became more important than the contestants, I stopped watching.
Will I watch on March 7th, I’m not sure…somehow, I believe I already have my favorite American Idol.
I found a great video from American Idol Rewind and just had to watch it. It is Billy Joel Night.
On April 15, 2003, American Idol presented the Top 7 performers on Billy Joel Night. Each singer was required to sing a song made famous by Billy Joel.
Clay Aiken was the last performer on this night and the judges remarks from this performance have been quoted many times. All Clay fans will remember “I just can’t wait till you let loose and dance a little more!” And Clay’s answer of baby-steps!!
Then, who could forget Simon’s “I prefer you when I shut my eyes.”
“Tell Her About It” was a wonderful choice for Clay to make. Starting out as a ballad and then, WOW, he changed it to up-tempo. It was the night that Clay changed his whole style and delivery. He never missed a step.
I hope you will check out the video. Because it is from the rewind series, you get some background information about the shoaling with Clay singing!.
Enjoy!!
Thank you for the pictures and the video. It has been a very long time since I saw this video. I like the pictures and the video. I did not watch the new season of AI last night. I will be watching some of it as the season goes on near the end. I have not watch AI in maybe 10 or 15 years. The best year was season 2.Thank you. CANN.
I have a couple of boxes full of video tapes of AI back when Clay was a contestant.
I don’t want to pay to have them converted to a disc, and my TV is digital, so I guess I’ll just have to wait for the CANN to share them with us. I’m so glad you are there.
I, too, have so many tapes and the whole rewind series with Clay! I can still play them on my TV – just don’t take the time to do that very often. Clay said something about mentoring on one of the shows. I would love to see that if it happens!
