There was an interesting article this week from our friends at the Nielsen Data company.
It seems that women are more likely to visit music news or music listening sites than men.
In August, women made up 56.1 percent of the Web traffic to music sites. Overall, music sites pulled in 42.5 million unique female visitors in August.
Instead of young girls, it is actually women 35-60 who make up about a third of the visitors to music sites. 14.5 million women in the 35-49 range visited online music site. This made up 19.2 percent of all visitors to music sites during the month.
Disappointing news for digital sales is that less than a fifth (15.6 percent) of U.S. females 18 or older said they purchased music online within the past six months. Slightly more than 8 percent of women watched or listened to music online. (Well, no new Clay Aiken music to download!!)
According to Nielsen, the top two sites visited by women for the month of August were: AOL Music (11.8 million unique visitors) and Yahoo Music (9.9 million). MSN Music was a distant third with a unique audience of 3.9 million.
I wonder how many of those ladies are Clay Aiken fans? I would bet that most of his fans did not hunt down music information before they became one of his fans. Once Clay has new music out there, the numbers will soar!
Agreed! When Clay's new CD is released those stats will be very interesting. In the meantime, I'm one of the unique visitors to AOL music and Yahoo music..for Clay of course 🙂
Musicfan,
Thank you for a very informative blog on the Nielsen ratings. Hopefully, they will come into play for Clay Aiken soon!
Happy MOAM Anniversary … and welcome to North Carolina!

Yes, I think the stats will be fun to watch, when Clay releases his next CD.
I never bother to check out anyone….only Clay. I imagine I will have to get on the bandwagon for digital sales. I usually just go and buy the CD.

This was a very exciting day six years ago. I made several trips to Future Shop to see if it was in and unpacked. I was very antsy and couldn't wait to get my paws on the CD. The rest is history!
Just think …. soon we will have another very exciting day when Clay's first release from Decca comes out. I can't wait!
