General Music News

Late night comedian David Letterman is getting into the ailing music business, announcing this week that his production company, Worldwide Pants, has launched a record label.

Worldwide Pants is launching in collaboration with Clear Entertainment/C.E. Music, has one signed band named Runner Runner, a young energetic pop-punk band out of Huntington Beach, Calif. Their self-titled album is being released through a new partnership with Letterman’s label, EMI Music’s Capitol Records and MRV label.

Dave Darling is producing the debut album.   He is known for his work with Brian Setzer and Stray Cats.

Is this an odd business decision for Dave given how sales in 2009 were less than half of what they were in 1999?

Kelly Clarkson is angry about a leaked song.  It seems that there was an on-line leak of a track named “Cleopatra” and Kelly was so upset she sent two Twitter messages.  According to Kelly’s fans, the song was leaked by members of the KC Express and then put on YouTube.

This is not the first time that Kelly has had songs leaked.  I feel sorry for her and hope her team can find a way to stop this.

Much as I want to hear Clay’s new CD, I would feel horrible if one of his songs was leaked.

Wake County School News

T. Keung Hui covers Wake schools for NewsObserver.com  Today, they had an article about raising money for the Wake County Schools.  The article asked:

“Would you be willing to give money to a Wake County Public School System Education Foundation as a way to help out during this budget crunch?

That was one of the ideas the school board’s finance committee agreed to explore today as a source for alternative revenues. The committee wants school administrators to look at what it would take to create a non-profit education foundation for the school system.

Keith Sutton, chairman of the finance committee, said a foundation would allow people to give money to the school system that could be written off for tax purposes. For instance, he said people might want to give stocks and cash.

“We want to be in a position where people can give money to us if they want to,” Sutton said.”

This is the same school district that Clay Aiken has spoken about how disappointed he is in their decisions.

The reason this makes news here is because of the comments on this article.  It seems that some of the parents and a vice principal think that Clay should perform a concert to help the school district.   Hmmmmm!!

Here are a couple of the comments:

……….. 4. Ask Clay Aiken to play a WCPSS benefit concert (seriously). He may not like the new school board, but I believe he does care about these kids. Give up one night of his life to help out.

Carolyn Morrison said at today’s meeting that the assistant principal at Brentwood Elementary had suggested contacting a celebrity like Clay Aiken about doing a benefit concert for the school system.

Following these two comments was a discussion as to whether Clay should even be asked since he didn’t support the board.  The discussion wavered between funny and pathetic.

Do you remember this comment on American Idol?

“You were so ultra cool, I’m scared of you boy – you did an amazing job, so hip, so cool”

Here is the performance that earned that judges comment.
