I am spending my last night in Washington D.C. What a spectacular city. There is no way you can even begin to see all the city has to offer. I leave for home early tomorrow morning and and as I was packing this evening, my mind was going over all the wonderful things about the Gala held on Saturday night.
These are random thoughts….not my usual way to post, but there is just so much to say and little time to write.
1. I was remiss last night when I did not mention Ms. Leisey. She is amazing. Her ability in signing the program is both skilled and artistic. Sometimes I sit and watch her as she works. She puts such meaning into the phrases.
2. It was nice to hear the band play Clay songs during the transitions of the show. I particularly enjoyed This Is The Night and Bring Back My Love. Great idea!
3. It was wonderful that copingincalif won the Founders Award for Volunteering. She is an amazing lady who has brought, dedication, passion, and joy to her work for The National Inclusion Project. And…WOW…how about the wonderful acceptance speech.
4. The band was wonderful. They added so much to the night. They are true professionals to help put the show together in such a short amount of time.
5. I thought Arsenio Hall did a great job as the host of the evening. His timing was great, he was funny, and he seemed sincere in support of The National Inclusion Project and his friend, Clay Aiken. Thank you, Arsenio. I can’t wait to see you and Clay together again on TV.
6. Did you notice that Clay added the final lyrics to the song, The Real Me. They were omitted from the recording. Thanks to Farouche for knowing the words and passing them along.
Wonderful, beautiful is what you see
When you look at me
What a beautiful way to end the song.
7. Every time I attend a Champions Gala, I return home with a renewed passion to do whatever I can to support The National Inclusion Project. The program is always uplifting and full of hope. I send a huge thank you to the staff of The National Inclusion Project, the wonderful honorees, and all the performers for making this the best Gala yet.
And, Clay…Thank you for showing us courage, wisdom, and enthusiasm. You are a true teacher…just look at all you have taught us!
I am already looking forward to next year!
