This site has its home on the west coast so I have not yet seen GMA.  However,  we want to get some pictures of Clay Aiken up as quickly as we can.

According to fans, Clay sang “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” and was relaxed and sounded wonderful.  I can’t wait!  Here are some screen caps from the visit.

Clay Aiken has always been a popular guest on many talk shows on TV.  Since 2003, Clay has sung, talked, laughed and entertained on almost all the talk shows.

According to Rumors, Clay will be performing on 2 shows next week.  Good Morning America and The View have always been good to Clay and he seems to relax when talking to the hosts.  If the rumors are correct, Clay will be on GMA on June 1st and The View on June 2nd.

Do you remember the visits to these shows?

Clay Aiken has been a frequent visitor to Good Morning America.  The show combines morning news and talk and is broadcast on the ABC television network.  The week-day program airs for two hours each morning.  The show started in 1975 and has a long and exciting history of wonderful interviews and great musical guests.

GMA broadcasts from Times Square, New York and often, they will travel a few blocks to Bryant Park to present their musical concerts.

On July 2, 2004, Clay performed as a part of GMA’s Summer Concert Series.  He talked briefly with Diane Sawyer and then sang 3 songs.  His mother, Faye Parker was called up on the stage to be introduced to the audience.  The crowd was reported to be the largest audience for the GMA Concert Series.

It will be wonderful when Clay has another opportunity to perform on GMA.  The next few weeks would be a great time to see Clay there.

SueReu put together some videos of the 2004 Clay concert.  They are really fun to see.

Clay Aiken – Surprise!

The Date:    October 22, 2003

The Show: Good Morning America

The Reason: A surprise!

Clay Aiken was back on Good Morning America a week after his promotional performance the week before.  According to reports, Clay really didn’t know exactly why he was there, but assumed it had to be about his new album, Measure of A Man.

Introduced by Charlie Gibson, Clay was dressed casually in jeans and a brown shirt.  After some casual chatting with Charlie and Diane Sawyer, they introduced a surprise guest.  Clive Davis entered the studio and Clay seemed somewhat startled.

Clive was carrying a plaque and announced that Clay had sold 613 thousand CDs in the first week of sales.  This was the highest number of sales in 10 years.  With many words of praise, Clive presented Clay with a commemorative disk which celebrated his certified double platinum CD, Measure of A Man.

Clay’s response was fun to watch.  First, there were the looks of embarrassment, his look of thanks to the heavens, a nervous ear scratch and lots of giggles.

Both Diane and Charlie seemed excited and thrilled for Clay and the live audience gave a loud and enthusiastic response to the announcement.

This appearance on Good Morning America was short, but exciting.  I would imagine it was a moment that Clay will remember forever.

The video is great.  Look for the cute ear scratch!

Clay Aiken – Good Morning, America!

It was October 15, 2003 and one day after Clay Aiken’s new CD, Measure Of A Man hit the stores. As part of the promotional tour for the CD, Clay visited Good Morning America which is taped in New York City.

Diane Sawyer interviewed Clay and they talked about the sales numbers and expectations for the album.  Clay told Diane that he went out the day before and bought his CD at the store on the advice of Randy Jackson.  Randy said that it was tradition to do that in the music business for good luck.

It was announced on the show that morning that Clay would be singing the National Anthem at Game 1 of the World Series.  Both Diane and Clay seemed excited about that honor.

The audience was filled with Clay fans that arrived early to be sure they could get into the studio to see and hear Clay perform.  The enthusiastic group was supportive of Clay and his band and seemed bored with the 50 Hunks from Cosmo Magazine that were introduced to the audience.

The fans on TV saw Clay sing two songs from his album.  He performed both Invisible and The Way.  But the fans in the studio got a bonus as Clay pre-recorded The First Noel that morning to be shown on Christmas Day.

“When Clay came back out to do TFN, the first thing he did was walk right over to the group of very young children….kneel right down and sign things for them and talk to them. It was absolutely adorable.”  This statement was written on-line from a fan that was lucky enough to be at the taping.  She also stated that she got the feeling Clay wasn’t 100% awake yet!

The visit and performance at GMA was exciting and wonderful to see.  Clay had to be tired, but his performance was fabulous.

The following videos show a lot of the show, but still no Invisible!

Clay Aiken – It’s Been Three Years

By musicfan123 · Comments 6343(22)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F09%2F21%2Fclay-aiken-its-been-three-years%2FClay+Aiken+-+It%27s+Been+Three+Years2009-09-21+16%3A29%3A40musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D6343

It seems impossible that it has been 3 years since Clay Aiken delivered A Thousand Different Ways to the world.  The CD was released on September 19th and the 1st week sales number was 211,234 sold.

As part of the promotion for the album, Clay had three days of coverage on Good Morning America. On September 19th, Diane introduced Clay and, along with his band, Clay performed Without You and A Thousand Days for the public.

The fans lined up hours before the taping, hoping to snag a spot in the small studio in New York.  The studio was packed and the fans got to see Clay and his band warm up and do the sound check.  According to fans in the audience, Clay was set up and out “on stage” for a long while as Diane continued with the show.  He was watching what she had to say on the monitors and encouraging his fans to keep it quiet.

As in other performances, Clay interacted with the audience and, although unable to talk to them, used his hands and face to let the crowd know he was aware they were watching him and ready to support him in this important performance.

But, the two-part interviews on September 20th and 21st were serious and heart-breaking to hear and watch.  Thinking back to what was happening to Clay at that time; I am amazed that he was able to participate in these interviews.  But, Clay sat down and drew a line in the sand with Diane Sawyer and all the tabloid press.

Clay said he was bewildered by the negative attention.

“Even though stuff about me that I read in the magazines isn’t true, it still makes me…lose sleep.  I hurt, not just for my mother who has to watch it happen and who hurts for me.  At least when I was in middle school…I understand why they picked on me.”

The intense interviews also covered Clay’s panic attacks, his use of Paxil and his dream to have a talk show.

The interviews produced many conversations throughout the Clay Aiken message boards.  Some people were angry at Diane, feeling she was asking questions that were too invasive.  Others were concerned that Clay didn’t clear up the question of his sexual orientation and felt he should have said more.  But, the overall feelings about the interviews were supportive of Clay and concerned for his health and happiness.

What about Clay?  How was he feeling?

“I hope…people like me for my singing.  I hope I sing well enough for people to stick around.  Sometimes I wonder myself, but, you know, that’s what I want to do.”

I have included three videos with this article.  They are important to watch, especially in hindsight.  Knowing all we know now,  it makes the interviews even more amazing.

Clay Aiken Congratulates His Friends

By musicfan123 · Comments 6194(16)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F09%2F08%2Fclay-aiken-congratulates-his-friends%2FClay+Aiken+Congratulates+His+Friends2009-09-08+07%3A46%3A36musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D6194
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Two colleagues and good friends of Clay Aiken announced some exciting news this last week.

On September 2nd, ABC announced that Diane Sawyer will replace Charles Gibson in January as anchor of the flagship ABC evening program World News.

For the first time in television history, two of the three major U.S. networks will have a woman anchoring their nightly news broadcasts. Replacing Charles Gibson as anchor of ABC’s World News, Diane will be taking over in January.  Diane’s appointment makes her only the second woman to hold a lead solo anchor position on a top three network–behind Katie Couric, who took over the CBS Evening News from Dan Rather in 2006. Other women, notably Barbara Walters, Jessica Savitch, Connie Chung and Elizabeth Vargas, have co-anchored or weekend anchored evening news broadcasts in the past, but none apart from Couric have taken center stage.

David Westin is the ABC News president.  He said of this move:

“Diane Sawyer is the right person to succeed Charlie and build on what he has accomplished.   She has an outstanding and varied career in television journalism, beginning with her role as a State Department correspondent and continuing at 60 Minutes, Primetime Live, and most recently Good Morning America.“

Diane worked at CBS for 10 years before starting at ABC in 1989.  She graduated from Wellesley College and worked in the Nixon administration and helped the president write his memoirs after his resignation.

Clay was asked at the OFC if he had spoken to Diane about her new assignment.  He stated that he sent her a text of congratulations to her.  According to Clay, she asked for his input and Clay joked around with her.

Diane will be missed on Good Morning America.  The morning show usually finishes second to NBC’s Today and has won the daytime Emmy for best morning show three years running.  Diane will continue for the next four months while the network searches for a replacement on GMA.

I am sure that all of you here hope that whoever joins the team is a big Clay Aiken fan.  We need to see Clay on morning TV.

Clay’s AI buddy, Ruben Studdard announced two career moves this past week.  First, Ruben will appear in a movie being shot in Alabama. The movie is about a young singer whose family life is disrupted when his father is deployed to Afghanistan by the Marines.  A 12-year-old named Uriah Shelton will star as Henry Matthews. Country star Trace Adkins will be in the movie, too. The movie is due out in year.

Ruben plays a kindly minister named Pastor Johnson.  He befriends the young lead named Henry and helps inspire his love of music.

Ruben’s second announcement was found on his Official Website.

Ruben to perform with David Foster and Friends Tour!

Ruben will be joining Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire, Charice, Peter Cetera and Michael Johns for the 10 city tour kicking off October 21st in Chicago!  Go to the tour section for a list of dates!

I was lucky enough to see the David Foster and Friends Concert in Las Vegas in the spring when Clay Aiken was performing.  The entire show was wonderful and I am sure that Ruben will be a wonderful addition to the show.

Since Clay’s friends are announcing good news, maybe they can encourage Clay to spill some news to us.  That would be the best news!!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
