Clay Aiken – Sometimes You Just Have To Smile!

One of my favorite things about American Idol is that when the season starts, Clay Aiken gets lots of positive press.

Brian Mansfield writes and moderates Idol Chatter, a blog on the USA Today website.  On Thursday, he wrote an article entitled  Clay Aiken rooting for ‘Idol’ contestant Victoria Huggins. Brian reports that Clay watched a young AI contestant from North Carolina sing on AI.  Clay recalled that he had met Victoria  many years ago when they had both been in a singing contest.  Each of them won their respective age group.

Why not go over and read the article.  You can find it at Idol Chatter.

Broadway.com had another article on Thursday with Clay Aiken in the title:  Bebe Neuwirth, Clay Aiken & More to Headline Broadway Backwards 6

Tony winner Bebe Neuwirth and American Idol and Broadway vet Clay Aiken are among the stars who will take part in the gender-bending evening Broadway Backwards, the annual event featuring performances of well-known musical theater songs written for the opposite sex. The one-night-only benefit event will take place on February 7 at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre.

In addition to Neuwirth and Aiken, the star-studded lineup for the evening includes Karen Olivo, Lillias White, Hinton Battle, Brooks Ashmanskas, Ward Billeisen, Colman Domingo, Jason Tam, Tituss Burgess, Len Cariou, Alan Cumming, Robin De Jesús, Jose Llana, Debra Monk, Denis O’Hare, Bobby Steggert, Brian Charles Rooney, Tony Yazbeck and F. Murray Abraham.

Broadway Backwards 6, which benefits the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, will be directed and choreographed by creator Robert Bartley. Kathryn Kendall will serve as co-choreographer/associate director, with Chris Haber as musical director.

You can see the entire article and picture at Broadway.com

Short and sweet, but to the point.  Clay has been upset with the Wake County School Board for many months.  He seemed pleased that their problems are getting national attention.  Stephen Colbert spoke about the school board on his show on Comedy Central.  It was a very funny Stephen seemed to use his comedic style to highlight the problems.  You can see the Colbert video Here

Do you remember January 21, 2004?  If so, you will recall that Clay made a visit to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Clay had a great chat with Jay and they talked about fans, panties, and videos.  This was the interview when Clay found out he was voted in the top three to take a bath with.  The other two were Brad Pitt and George Clooney.  Clay also showed his pre-makeover drivers license to Jay and the audience.  Clay also sang a wonderfully exciting rendition of The Way.  The following videos feature Clay on The Tonight Show.

Sometimes you just remember certain Clay Aiken performances more than others.  Clay’s visit with Jay Leno on September 15, 2006 is one that is remembered and popular with many fans.

Clay started the promotion for “A Thousand Different Ways” with this appearance on The Tonight Show.  He joined Howie Mandel and had a engaging interview with lots of laughs.  He chatted about passing out in McDonald’s while in Slovenia and getting so ill that he was planning his funeral.

But, the visit was really remembered more for the stunning look that Clay had that night.  There was just something special about the gray suit that made Clay look amazing.

One of my dear friends posted the following pictures today and I am sharing them with you.  I know we have all seen them before, but they are worth another look.  The two videos are pretty awesome too.

Clay Aiken – Brad, George, and Clay

As we are waiting for the “news” from Clay Aiken, it has been fun going back and re-living some of the fun things that he has done in the last 7 years.

Do you remember:

  1. Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Clay Aiken
  2. The blue sequined vest from high school
  3. “A Panty or two” and “Depends”
  4. Skipping to the front of the line at the DMV
  5. The original DMV picture
  6. Raleigh = Mayberry

If you remember these fun stories, you probably remember Clay Aiken visiting Jay Leno on January 21, 2004.  Dressed in a light beige suit with a brown shirt, Clay’s interview with Leno was fun, relaxed and full of lots of laughs.

Clay closed the show with a beautiful rendition of “The Way.”   The camera caught his beautiful smile at the end of the performance.

I have always enjoyed watching Clay on the Tonight Show.  It’s been fun seeing Clay become more relaxed at each visit.  I just hope that when Clay visits again, the script-writer comes up with a different introduction.  It was hard to hear the same exact words each time.

Do you think Clay will sing on The Tonight Show again?  Do you think he will get “couch” time?

The following videos show the interview and Clay’s performance of “The Way.”

Clay Aiken – Not A Fan of Tupperware

By musicfan123 · Comments 7277(23)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F12%2F06%2Fclay-aiken-not-a-fan-of-tupperware%2FClay+Aiken+-+Not+A+Fan+of+Tupperware2009-12-06+07%3A22%3A43musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D7277
Sunday, December 6th, 2009

December, 2004, had to be one of the most hectic months in Clay Aiken’s life.  He was on tour, he had his own special on TV and he made the rounds of the talk shows to chat and sing.

On December 6, 2004, Clay made an appearance on The Tonight Show.  He had a great talk with Jay Leno and sang a wonderful rendition of “Mary, Did You Know.”

Jay asked Clay about his Thanksgiving holiday.  Clay told him that there were over 30 people who celebrated at his home.  This was the interview when we learned about Clay’s relationship with Tupperware and about the importance of glass milk bottles.  Remember??  Six bottles, all lined up perfectly!! Clay was clever, well spoken, interesting and very funny.

Clay brought along a video of his throat and showed us his vocal cords…..well, it was different.

Clay was introduced after Kevin Spacey, and instead of starting off by talking to Jay, he began by singing.   Clay’s voice showed beauty and power and his love of the lyrics was obvious.  It was evident that Clay had completely recovered from the illness he had suffered recently.  There was obviously no vocal chord damage from his infection.

As always, Clay was dressed in his own style.  His brown plaid pants and blue blazer stood out from the others.  All and all, it was a wonderful visit as Clay was able to show his intense and stirring side as he sang and then his humorous, light banter and a set of slightly bruised vocal chords up there on the screen for all to see!

I think the video of “Mary, Did You Know?” shows one of the best performances I have seen or heard.  I hope you enjoy it.

Clay Aiken – Tonight, Tonight!

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

It was Monday night, October 13, 2003.  It was just like any other Monday night, but, wait…….this was a very different Monday night!  Clay Aiken was making his debut on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

It was the night before Clay’s first CD was released and Clay stopped by the show as part of the promotion for “Measure Of A Man.”

It was obvious that Jay was amazed at the crowd that was there just to see Clay.  From the beginning of the show to the very end, Clay’s name was used to get the crowd excited. Jay commented more than once that there were many fans that spent the night outside of the studio so that they would be able to see the taping of the show.

Many of the fans seemed in the studio and at home, watching on TV were anxious for Clay to appear.  They sat through an interview with comedian, Wanda Sykes, but began to lose patience when the “bird lady” seemed to take for ever!!

Clay Aiken performed “Invisible” and even added some new dance moves to the performance.  Afterwards, he talked with Jay before a screaming crowd.  Jay told Clay about the overnight crowd of fans and even got Clay to turn his feet around.

After the taping, Clay went directly to the airport to catch a plane to New York for more promotional appearances.  But, Clay did make a short detour to wave at his fans who were attending a release party in the area.  He didn’t have time to stop, but the fans saw his wave as he drove by.   It certainly made the party guests happy and excited!!

Did you watch the show that night?  I did and remember being very excited to see Clay seemingly so relaxed and professional.

I hope you enjoy the video that shows both Clay’s musical performance and his first Leno interview.

Clay Aiken A Hit On Leno

By musicfan123 · Comments 4313(10)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F05%2F12%2Fclay-aiken-a-hit-on-leno%2FClay+Aiken+A+Hit+On+Leno2009-05-12+14%3A42%3A59musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D4313

It was just a year ago that Clay Aiken visited The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.  Along with Jay, Clay had a fun time meeting and talking to the comedian, Jack Black.

As part of his promo tour for his album, “On My Way Here”, Clay had the opportunity to chat with Jay and perform the first single from his album.

Jack Black was the first guest of the evening and stayed on the couch during Clay’s interview.  In fact, Jack and Clay had so much fun talking to each other that Jay declared them the “Black and Aiken comedy team.”

Jay brought up immediately how different Clay’s hair was this visit.  Clay responded by saying that the dark hair made him look older.  He commented that he needed to look younger because his “peers” in the industry were all twelve.

There was a lot of talk about Spamalot and Jack asked if Clay had met any Monty Python people.  Jack seemed impressed that Clay had met Eric Idle.  Clay admitted that as soon as he entered the theater, he started talking with his British accent.

Besides Spamalot, Clay told about being cut by his high school musical and blew a raspberry to the teacher that cut him.  He responded to Jay’s question about superstitions by saying that he was not concerned about that, but learned quickly that “McBeth” should not be spoken in the theater.

Clay sang “On My Way Here” towards the end of the program.  Both Jack and Jay stood at the edge of the stage during the performance and seemed to be enjoying it.

There was a full house and there were many Clay fans in the live audience.  Clay looked good and seemed very relaxed and happy.  It was a wonderful evening and the only thing that would have made it better was more Clay time!!

The following videos will help you remember the evening.  Enjoy!

Last week, we featured a poll about Clay’s visits to The Tonight Show.  We had 6 great pictures of Clay for 6 of his visits.  However, his last visit in May, 2008 was missing.

To make up for that omission, today, we will feature the May 12, 2008 visit with Clay Aiken, Jack Black, and Jay Leno.  No words of wisdom, no review………..just enjoy the great pictures.

As Jay Leno is coming to the end of his long run as host of The Tonight Show, it seems appropriate to remember the six visits that Clay Aiken made to the show.

Clay first visited with Jay on October 13, 2003, just a day before the drop of his first album, Measure of a Man.

Six pictures of the Tonight Show visits have been chosen.  Please vote and let us know which picture is your favorite.  Then, if you can, take a moment and let us know what made you pick your favorite.  Have fun.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
