Clay Aiken – Hammerstein, Here We Come!

By musicfan123 · Comments 9980(4)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F08%2F11%2Fclay-aiken-hammerstein-here-we-come%2FClay+Aiken+-+Hammerstein%2C+Here+We+Come%212010-08-11+12%3A34%3A02musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D9980

Clay Aiken fans are headed to New York City to see the 14th concert of the Timeless Tour. Clay and Ruben Studdard will be performing at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan.

Located in the Manhattan Center Studios, the Hammerstein has 12,000 square feet and is in two levels. It is known for its elegant appearance and excellent acoustical design.

The ballroom seats 2,500 people for and musical performances. The two main balconies are unusually close to the ground and gently sloped. They seat a total of 1,200. There are six shallow balconies which are normally used for celebrity guests. The floor slants down to the stage area to enable those in the back rows to see easily.

The Manhattan Center was constructed in 1906 by the famous Broadway musical composer, Oscar Hammerstein. It was constructed as the Manhattan Opera House and was competition with the Metropolitan Opera.

The ownership of the center has changed hands many times over the last decades. The theater was converted into a large ballroom and was used as a Freemason’s temple in the 1930s and a trade union headquarters in the 1940s. It fell into disuse in the 1970. The current owner is the Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church.

The Timeless Tour will add a special touch to the venue? Will you be there tonight? Fortunately, I will be there, cheering on all the performers and enjoying the music and fun.

One of the wonderful “Clack” gatherers kindly put some of her videos of the Lancaster Concert on YouTube. I love seeing the concert over and over. I wish that so many more people could see these fine entertainers and share in the fun. Enjoy!

I was thinking of all the wonderful pictures, TV shows, radio interviews and written articles that have shown up in the last month.  There is nothing better than all the promo that surrounds Clay Aiken at this time.

I thought it might be fun to see just a bit of what we has been made available to us.

Yep!!  Life Is Good!!

Clay Aiken – 5 Days and Counting

You could hear the buzz all over the internet on Tuesday.  And for Clay Aiken fans, Speculation 101 was the lesson of the day!

On Tuesday morning, pictures turned up of Clay as he arrived at LAX.  Both TMZ and JustJared posted a relaxed Clay as he made his way through the airport.  For fans, seeing  Quiana  as his travel buddy made for more speculation and conversations.  Did Clay travel to LA to perform somewhere?  Will he be on American Idol, or is he there to record for AOL?  Or is it something we don’t know anything about?   Well, hopefully, new information will show up today.

As the fans wait for more facts, it was wonderful to read the newest review on Tried and True by Pink Armchair.   As a employee of the PBS station in Chicago, Pink Armchair was able to hear the Cd and wrote the following about the CD.

Well, I don’t know if it will make anyone feel better, but right now, listening to probably the most gorgeous album my ears have ever been treated to in my entire life (and that’s saying something for someone who is a musician and works for a classical radio station), I seem to be incapable of worrying about Clay or this album. By next week, I hope you’ll all feel the same way.

At this moment, I think I’ve fallen in love with Dave Novik. The VOX is front and center, each of the arrangements helps to tell the story of the song without getting in Clay’s way, and such obvious care and love and passion has gone into this thing — I just can’t feel anything but gratitude that Clay and Decca found each other. That’s the truth, and you know I’m not the mushy type.

I’ve said this before, but I think Decca is looking more toward longevity for this album than a quick splashy blitz. A lot of little viral things as opposed to a week or so of Clay being plastered everywhere in the usual places and then, poof! he’s gone. And I just think an album of this type is marketed very differently than a pop album or a rock album.

No, I’m not worried. I can’t get the grin off my face, as a matter of fact. After seven years, this guy is still killing me dead. More than ever, actually.

ETA: Okay, you want details? All righty.

Unchained Melody, Moon River, and Crying are three of the most exquisite things I’ve ever heard. (The blend with Linda Eder is unreal, and so much emotion! And Vince Gill’s guitar work on Moon River is such an incredible asset to the song.) There’s an undercurrent in Unchained Melody (arranged by Ben Cohn, BTW) that is very poignant because of what the percussionist is doing — I’ll be interested to see if anyone else picks up on it. I don’t want to spoil it by saying what I think it is, but it’s very different.

Every one of these songs has its own distinctive personality and tells its own story, and I think the Billboard reviewer’s description of Clay’s “swagger” is dead on. He just sounds so happy — so comfortable and easy and at home singing these songs. Mack the Knife has such an assurance about it…and such a vicious glee. He sounds like he’s having the time of his life.

Misty and It’s Impossible (two songs I’ve never cared for, till now) are almost hypnotic. The only word to describe It’s Only Make Believe is…cheeky. There’s a Kind of Hush has a real joy behind it. And Clay somehow makes all of these songs sound as if they’re the first time anyone has sung them. And I guess that’s what a great artist does.

There were moments during Clay’s tours when I would suddenly choke up at something he did vocally. My throat would close and I would find myself crying (maybe some of you can relate). That has happened quite a few times while listening to this album. I think a lot of what I feel is happiness for him.

Thank you, Pink Armchair for sharing the excitement with all of us.

Did you have a chance to hear the snippets of the songs on Tried and True that are on the Decca site?  Be sure and click on them.  The quality is the best ever.

Clay Aiken – Television Star

Clay Aiken has always been a popular guest on many talk shows on TV.  Since 2003, Clay has sung, talked, laughed and entertained on almost all the talk shows.

According to Rumors, Clay will be performing on 2 shows next week.  Good Morning America and The View have always been good to Clay and he seems to relax when talking to the hosts.  If the rumors are correct, Clay will be on GMA on June 1st and The View on June 2nd.

Do you remember the visits to these shows?

This past week was the anniversary of the Season 2 Finale of American Idol.  Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard both sang with emotion and wonderful vocal skills.  Who won that night?  Most think they both won.

As we anticipate more news about Clay and his upcoming CD titled Tried and True,  lets have some fun.

There are two videos that I think represent Clay Aiken and his amazing talent.  First, lets go back seven years to one of the most beautiful performances in AI history. Clay’s performance of Bridge Over Troubled Water sets the standard for all the performances on American Idol.  The other video is the International Media release of Clay’s upcoming PBS special.  This video is another benchmark in Clay’s remarkable career.  Clay may be 7 years older, but his voice and talent were there from the beginning and still shine today!  Enjoy!

Clay Aiken – The Singer Becomes The Instrument

By musicfan123 · Comments 9491(6)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F05%2F19%2Fclay-aiken-the-singer-becomes-the-instrument%2FClay+Aiken+-+The+Singer+Becomes+The+Instrument2010-05-19+07%3A11%3A28musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D9491
Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

On Tuesday I spent more time than I should, listening to Clay Aiken sing.  I started with Misty, clicked on Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You and pulled out On My Way Here and listened to Something About Us.  When we got the news that we could get a MP3 of Suspicious Minds, I downloaded it immediately and listened to it more times than I could count.

What this did was make me hunt for some answers.  What is Music?  Why am I so touched?  Why do I feel better after listening?

First, I looked at some short answers:

Music is what life sounds like.  ~Eric Olson

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.  ~Berthold Auerbach

He who sings scares away his woes.  ~Cervantes

In music the passions enjoy themselves.  ~Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil, 1886

Very nice, but when I found an article by the world-renowned singer, Annie Lennox, I had to read it all.  The following is a part of her article from 2008.  If you want to read then entire article, you can find it at RESURGENCE

What is music?  Music is pure magic.  It is a wonderful gift to humanity.  Music moves us, and soothes us.  It stimulates.  It makes us want to dance or sing.  It makes us feel happy or sad, inspired or uplifted.  It affects our mood in all kinds of infinite ways.  It can be exquisitely subtle or wildly raucous: from lullaby, to a war cry for revolution.

EVER SINCE I can remember, music has been an accompaniment to my life. It would be impossible for me to even try and conceptualize a world without music. If you have a natural aptitude and appreciation for it, then music simply draws you to it and connects. Watch a baby nodding her head, clapping her hands, or bouncing in response to a rhythm or melody…….

Songs in particular contain something profoundly elemental. The singer actually ‘becomes’ the instrument, or vehicle of communication and expression. Through the combination of voice, lyrical content and poetic structure, melody, rhythm, the nuance of combined tonal qualities and phrasing within the breath, singers can transmit and translate thoughts and feelings, potentially elevating and transporting both the singer and the listener to another realm. Music really can lead us into another dimension.

Music also tells stories, breaks hearts, reduces us to tears, or seduces us into falling in love, over and over and over again. Music is a universal language. A human creation from a divine source… perhaps.

Music is a mystery, a code. A vehicle of spirit and soul. It is perceived through ‘hearing’ the vibration of sound, the most sublime resonance – from the eardrum to the brain. Music moves us beyond intellect to the heart-centre…….

Did Annie realize she was writing about Clay Aiken when she wrote the bolded words?  Whatever, or whoever she was writing about really doesn’t matter.  I just realize that we are so lucky to be able to lose ourselves in the stunning voice that belongs to Clay Aiken.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
