There are days when there are no huge announcements about Clay Aiken.  Instead, there are many little bits of news.  Wednesday was one of those days!!

The following announcement was posted on FaceBook yesterday.  Now, I know that Clay has always said that we should not think anything is real unless we hear it from him…however; this is from the Official Site of the Durham Bulls.  Maybe it will be posted on the Official Fan Club site today.

Durham Bulls Baseball Club

Just got comfirmation…Clay Aiken will perform the National Anthem at the DAP game on Monday.  FaceBulls get a 14-hour jump on the press release to buy tickets.  Why?  Because we love you!

The Durham Bull play in the International League.  They are the Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. At this time, the Bulls are having a winning season with 15 wins to 12 losses.

The team became well known in 1988 following the release of the movie Bull Durham.  The movie starred Kevin Costner, Tim Robbins, and Susan Sarandon.

The following was posted on the OFC site yesterday afternoon.

Quick Update from Team Clay

05/04/11 at 5:00pm by brian

Hi everyone! Whew…it has been quite busy around these parts at Team Clay and we haven’t had a chance to update you lately. But thanks to hearing from you, the faithful OFC members, we’re taking a minute to slow down and let you know what’s happening.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback on our OFC merchandise poll we ran a couple weeks back. The feedback was wonderful and we’re working on incorporating the items you voted for in to a new 2011 Ultimate Membership package. Expect an announcement on new renewal packages (we’re keeping both the Ultimate and Digital options) next week.

We’re also gearing up to add a new feature on the OFC that we are excited to tell you about next week. Stay tuned.

I am glad that they took the time to up-date us.  Anyone have any idea what the new feature will be??

Although American Idol has tried to erase Clay Aiken from their history, they seem to be making Season 10 a retrospective of Clay Aiken….I mean….they take Clay’s most popular songs and ask this years Idols to sing them.

This retrospective was most obvious last night when two of the remaining Idols sang “Clay Aiken” songs.  I don’t watch Idol, but the I knew immediately when tweet after tweet showed up, reminding everyone that Without You was the lead song on Clay’s Album, A Thousand Different Ways.

Just a few minutes later, another group of tweets appeared….. Unchained Melody…..Did Idol forget that Clay received high marks from the judges when he sang UM on American Idol…or did they forget that Clay had the most beautiful arrangement of UM on his latest album, Tried & True.

Another sign of the great publicity was an announcement from ZOCIALtv.  This site keeps track of the Top 25 Most Shared Shows Videos Today.  Clay’s YouTube video of Unchained Melody from his visit at The View reached the #1 position Wednesday night.

So………American Idol seems to want Clay Aiken to get some attention…the retrospective is a done-deal.  Each time one of the Idols sings a “Clay Aiken” song, Clay gets great positive promotion.  Thank you, American Idol.  This has got to be your subtle way of reminding everyone that nobody sings as well as Clay Aiken!!

Don’t forget that today is Cinco de Mayo, the yearly holiday, which celebrates all things Mexican. The festival dates back to May 5, 1862 when Mexican Republic forces defeated the invading French military at the Battle of Puebla, despite being vastly outnumbered. Although the holiday is not currently celebrated through much of Mexico, it remains as popular as ever in the United States and other parts of the world.

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is a marketing celebration, like Valentine’s Day, that was made to sell more Corona and tequila. It is similar to St Patrick’s Day –another day of fun.

Is Clay celebrating Cinco de Mayo? Clay has said that he is not a big fan of Guacamole or avocados and complained that too much food in California is smothered in the “green stuff.”  However, maybe he and his family actually like a taco or two and maybe they like to munch on a plateful of Nachos.  Who knows….It might be Fiesta Time at the Aiken House!!

The following videos show the remarkable performances that Clay puts on when he sings his favorite songs.

Clay Aiken – He “Owns” Unchained Melody!

On March 12, 2010, Clay Aiken stood on the stage of the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium and sang one of the most popular songs in history.  Unchained Melody is thought to be the most recorded song written in the 20th century.  There are approximately 500 different versions of this song.

In 1955, HyZaret wrote the beautiful lyrics and put them to the music created by Alex North.  Unchained melody was originally written for the 1955 movie, Unchained. Todd Duncan sang the song.

In 1965, The Righteous Brothers created a new version of Unchained Melody.  It hit the number four spot on the music charts and continued on the charts for 12 weeks.  Their version of the song was used in the 1990 film, Ghost.  After the movie, Unchained Melody was once again in the number one spot on the charts.

The song was also used in the film, Soldier, a military drama.  Two actors from the film sang a simple rendition of the song.  No one really thought much about it until the television station that broadcast the movie received countless calls from viewers who wanted to buy the version by the actors.  It was Simon Cowell of American Idol fame who convinced the actors to record the song. And their recording hit platinum status within its first week in 1995.

In 2010, the talented Ben Cohn wrote a beautiful arrangement of Unchained Melody for Clay Aiken.  The lush orchestration highlighted the strengths of Clay’s voice.  Many feel that this production of the song is one of the best around.

No one can sing Unchained Melody better than Clay Aiken who has loved the song since he was a young child.  His passionate rendition will be around a long time.  Clay now “owns” Unchained Melody.

On Wednesday, a list of the Top 25 most shared videos from The View listed Clay Aiken’s performance of Unchained Melody as # 3.  The wonderful performance has been shared on Twitter, Facebook and many different blogs. The following is the YouTube of Clay singing Unchained Melody on The View.

It was another busy day for fans of Clay Aiken. On the internet, Clay was featured in two, new  supportive articles about his tour.  And, on Wednesday afternoon, we actually got a new picture of Clay.

Team Clay posted on both Twitter and FaceBook.  They let us know that Clay visited their office to get some work done and even included a picture.  In our new goal of more participation on FaceBook and Twitter, this is a good place to answer their message.  It’s as easy as retweeting their tweet or “liking” the message on FaceBook.  If you are used to FaceBook, you might leave a message to them.

Take a look!!    Love The Toys!!   FaceBook

BroadwayWorld seems to like Clay Aiken.  On Tuesday, they announced that Clay won their poll about Broadway stars.  Wednesday, they wrote a great article about the Tried & True Tour.  They seem to appreciate Clay Aiken as a great musician and entertainer.  Please stop by their site and let them know how much we appreciate their support.  Also, take a look around.  They always have so much interesting things about what is happening in the theatre world.

Clay Aiken Comes To The Van Wezel 2/12

Clay Aiken has never sounded more at home than he does singing the lushly arranged classics on his fifth studio album Tried and True – the international pop phenomenon’s first album for Decca Records.

Showcasing Aiken’s powerful voice and considerable interpretive gifts, the new CD is comprised of songs from the ’50s and ’60s that Aiken grew up listening to as a child. For Aiken, Tried and True (so named because he feels the songs have stood the test of time) was about getting back to himself after a career performing more pop-oriented material. “There are a lot of elements to this album that are about me returning to what I’m comfortable with,” Aiken says. “To me, older songs are more melodically appealing and beautiful. So doing this album was an opportunity to just be myself.” Highlights include swinging album opener “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” made famous by Frankie Valli; “Misty,” the Johnny Mathis hit, and a soulful rendition of Elvis Presley‘s “Suspicious Minds.” Tried and True also features two songs Aiken sang while appearing as a contestant on the second season of American Idol: “Mack the Knife” and “Unchained Melody,” alongside songs with guest appearances by saxophonist David Sanborn on “What Kind of Fool Am I?” and Broadway star Linda Eder on Roy Orbison’s “Crying.”

Aiken launched his career journey seven years ago on American Idol, where he won over millions of viewers with his phenomenal voice and down-home charm. He parlayed his success into full-fledged stardom, selling more than six million copies worldwide of his previous four albums, all of which debuted in the Top 5 on the Billboard chart. In addition, Aiken has launched nine live tours, made the New York Times best-seller list by co-authoring the inspirational memoir Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music In Your Life, and won several American Music and Billboard Music Awards. In January 2008, Aiken made his Broadway debut in the role of Sir Robin in the Tony Award-winning musicAl Monty Python’s Spamalot.

Ticket prices range from $30 to $60. For more information and to buy tickets, contact the Van Wezel Box office at (941) 953-3368 or log onto www.vanwezel.org. This show is sponsored by the Van Wezel Foundation.

Did you watch American Idol last night?    I was busy watching my favorite sitcoms.  I did take a few moment to read the reviews.  From Reuters, to MTV, the comments ranged from “a softer Idol” to better than I expected.  What did you think?

The name Clay Aiken comes up in many conversations daily among many people.  On Saturday, a conversation that I was involved with was about Clay and his wonderful appearances on the popular daytime television show, The View.

The conversation made me think of the many times Clay has visited The View.  From what I can remember, he has appeared on the show nine different times.  Each one was fun, different and entertaining.  I hope I found them all.

7-30-03

Clay and Ruben both talked with the ladies and sang the new singles.

10-17-03

Besides singing Invisible, Clay was interviewed by a “Hot Dog” and smelled by an expert!

03-04-04

The sang The Way and even though he was not feeling well, his performance was great.

12-09-04

Sitting in the middle of a special Christmas set, Clay performed Mary Did You Know.

09-22-06

Looking dashing in his gray suit and long  hair, Clay sang Without You

01-22-08

No song for this appearance, but Clay tried to teach the Russian Dance from Spamalot to he ladies.

05-08-08

On My Way Here was a hit when Clay performed it on this appearance.

06-02-10

To me, the best performance of then all, Clay sang Unchained Melody

07-13-10

Clay was a co-host on the View.  It was cute that he actually got “bleeped” and there was a great conversation on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell!

I am posting a YouTube of Clay’s performance of Unchained Melody. Be sure and double click on the video and leave a comment under the video on YouTube.

Well…..it has started!!  Check out the following graphic.  Isn’t it nice to see??

We all would love to hear Clay Aiken performing Unchained Melody on the AC radio stations.  Well, devoted fan, MagicalMusic,  decided to do something about it.  She requested the song and  received the following e-mail from the station:

So glad to have you as a listener of Ez~! We’ll play Clay Aiken’s “Unchained Melody” just now and trust you’re able to be tuned.
We’ll check out others by Clay Aiken and will be glad to add some.
Again, thank you for being with us tonight.
Best,
Lane and Martha in Atlanta

Thank you, Magical………you got the ball rolling!!!

As we look towards the end of the year, we cannot help but think of the exciting things that happened for Clay this year.  It is a time of reflection.  I thought it might be interesting if everyone took a moment and let us know their TOP Clay moments for 2010.  Maybe there is just one, but maybe you have a Top Ten List.  What ever it is, lets see if we can put together a list of 2010 Top Clay Aiken moments.

For me:

1.  That “moment” in Unchained Melody…..the key change just builds to an amazing place…..

2.  Bringing Broadway Home…….why did I make the decision to stay at home that night?  It was amazing.

3.  Clay’s beautiful performance of Both Sides Now will be something I will remember forever.

4.  Reno……Hammer pants…….Clay was so proud to show off the outfit, including the bling around his waist!!   AND….I was there!!

5.  Amazed and excited that Linda Eder was on the stage with Clay in Raleigh.  I have been lucky enough to see her in concert twice before her appearance in Raleigh.

WAIT—I need to stop.  I could go on all night!!  Help me out….What are your moments to remember?

Clay Aiken – Popeater Article

Ashley Iasimone wrote a wonderful article about The Day In The Life of Clay Aiken.  Published at PopEater, the article is a great blend of the business of the day and a look at Clay and his personality.  There is also a wonderful album of over 60 pictures with the article.  They are amazing.

Be sure and visit Popeater and let them know how much we appreciate the coverage of Clay Aiken and his busy schedule.  You can visit them at POPEATER

It’s the morning after Clay Aiken released his new album, ‘Tried and True.’ Backstage at ‘The View,’ the singer sits on a plush green sofa in his dressing room, surrounded by others but in his own world, eyes glues to his iPad as he waits for his call to set. Aiken starts his day out in a solitary mode, but perks up when he and his crew mull over which cover he should choose for an upcoming DVD release. Across the hall are the dressing rooms of Belinda Carlisle, who is also appearing on today’s show, and guest host and ‘Sex and the City‘ actor Mario Cantone, both of whom Aiken chats with before going on camera.

“I did not celebrate for the album at all,” Aiken admits to PopEater, stifling a yawn. “I’ve been working pretty hard. Typically, when an album comes out, you spend most of your day doing press and interviews and whatnot.”

This is one of those days. Starting out in midtown New York City in the early hours of the day at ‘The View’ (with the PopEater crew in tow, as well as a busy itinerary that runs until roughly 5PM and includes stops at ABC, CNN and ‘Talk Stoop‘ in hand), it’s clear to see that he’s the type of guy who needs a little breather between charming talk show hosts, reporters and fans with his smooth vocal performances and dry sense of humor. Although the fresh-faced Aiken says that he usually doesn’t have a problem with mornings, the week has been so busy that he’s been feeling slightly sleep deprived.

“The most difficult part of the day when you’re doing this press thing is having to get up so early and getting started to early. Interestingly enough, someone just said to me yesterday, ‘Oh, you just have to sing and talk,’ but it’s tiring! You wouldn’t think it would be so tiring, but my brain has to work for these things, and that’ll wear you out,” he says with a laugh.

Still, Aiken, who has been relatively out of the spotlight this year, is proud to be talking about ‘Tried and True,’ no matter how exhausting it might get. The album is a departure from his previous releases in more ways than one — not only did Aiken record a collection of standards like ‘Unchained Melody,’ ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You’ and ‘It’s Only Make Believe’ rather than modern pop songs, he actually called all the shots. “I got to be a part of the process from beginning to end, from ‘What type of album do you want to do?’ to ‘OK, let’s do that,’” Aiken says. “‘What songs do you want to do? OK, let’s do that. What type of producer do you want?’ I got to be very hands-on with every part of it, which was different. In addition to it being kind of sonically different to what I’ve done, it was different to be a part of that. It gives you more ownership, and it just really makes it more my baby.”

“This is where the fun starts, ladies,” Aiken, bringing his iPad back out to take his chances at a frustrating round of Solitaire, tells us as we board a waiting car that will transport us to our next stop, ABC. Once he starts his game, he’s in it to win it. “This is not looking good. And if I lose, I get real cranky,” he jokes, his gaze still locked on the game. “I give up at three minutes. There’s no point. That two of hearts is underneath there, and I can’t move him without a red queen, and I’m not gonna get one.”

Seven years ago, Aiken briefly left his hometown of Raleigh, N.C. to get his start on what propelled his oncoming fame as a pop singer — the second season of ‘American Idol.’ After coming in a close second to contestant Ruben Studdard, he went on to launch his recording career. As a performer, Aiken undoubtedly enjoyed his time on the show, but he has not watched it for at least five years now, and, while he understands why he’s still asked about it, he doesn’t have much to say about its current state. Aiken explains that the idea of watching it now makes him a bit nervous and adds, “People change and grow. Once you know how the sausage is made, you don’t want to eat it anymore. It’s a part of who I am, obviously, but it’s not a part of my weekly routine.”

As the van pulls over in front of ABC’s headquarters, Aiken looks forward to finding himself a grilled cheese sandwich from the cafeteria for lunch, preferably made with cheddar, American and/or provolone — “Those are the only three I like,” he says. We check in at the security desk, head up the escalator and hang out in a news conference room while he once again waits to go on camera. Aiken munches on his grilled cheese, slips out of the room for his interview, returns and watches his recent appearance on the ‘The Joy Behar Show,’ shaking his head at the fact that CNN.com is running an item about how he called Simon Cowell an “a–hole” — a lovable one, that is, all in good fun.

Today, he’s returning to CNN for another interview, which he’s psyched about. “CNN is on all the time in my house and I’m upset I can’t get CNN International. I’m very bothered by that,” Aiken laments. This is not a disingenuous endorsement — Aiken gladly calls himself “that big a nerd,” and his hobbies are pretty telling of his personality: “That’s pretty much what I do when I’m alone. I watch CNN. I don’t like crowds. I’m kind of a homebody. I’m a little bit of a hermit. I don’t really go out and do too much at all. I’m relatively boring in my free time, and I’m fine with that.”

In fact, after the CNN reporter jokingly offers him a job and we leave the network to head to Cat Greenleaf’s ‘Talk Stoop’ in Brooklyn for one last interview, Aiken pokes fun at his own “boring” nature and then remains quiet, save a business call or two. He’s in one of the most fast-paced cities in the world but his initial excitement for New York City has waned. “When I lived here for ‘Spamalot,’ I kind of got my fill of New York City,” he says. “I mean, I love coming here. I actually like it quite a bit. But it’s not like I’m gonna go see the sites or anything. What is there to do? Clubs, I guess? No thanks.”

It was around the time of his run in ‘Spamalot’ two years ago that Aiken came out to the media, the “Yes, I’m Gay” headline emblazoned on the cover of People magazine. “When anybody comes out, there are going to be people who are supportive and people who are not,” Aiken says, referring to fans – including those who he thinks still refer to themselves as the devoted “Claymates” — and the general public. “Obviously, I was doing ‘Spamalot’ at the time and I was kind of nervous. I specifically remember that night, thinking, ‘OK, I’m going to walk out prepared to be booed,’ and nobody did. And people were very supportive. People have been very supportive throughout the whole process and it didn’t really change.”

With ‘Tried and True,’ Aiken goes back to what he knows best: home and the music that he heard his mother play while he was growing up. He cites his mom, who often sang in the car as well as at clubs and weddings with a local band, as one of his biggest influences. In particular, she always had a dream that Aiken would record ‘Unchained Melody,’ head out to Nashville with it and have a big hit. Now, Aiken is raising his own son, Parker.

“For the most part, around the house, we don’t have that much music playing,” Aiken says. “For some reason, I’m nervous to sing for him. My son doesn’t like to listen to me sing, but he enjoys listening to other people sing. Maybe kids just don’t like to hear their parents, ever. When they’re teenagers they don’t want to hear them. When they’re babies they don’t want to hear ‘em sing. Maybe it’s just a genetic thing.”

So maybe his kid doesn’t have the musical bug yet — he is only two years old, after all — but what if he one day wants to follow in his dad’s footsteps? Aiken, simply a father looking out for his son, is quick to quip, “I don’t plan on that happening. I obviously will encourage him in whatever he wants to, whatever he’s passionate about, but I’m just gonna hope it’s not this.”

When we arrive at the Cobble Hill brownstone where Aiken will be interviewed for ‘Talk Stoop’ with Cat Greenleaf, he changes into a plaid shirt, accessorized with suspenders — “I’m sitting on the stoop, why not?” he rationalizes — and puts on a smile for Greenleaf’s crew and family. His final press appearance of the day is relaxed, the sun is shining and Aiken treats Greenleaf to a brief a cappella performance.

Aiken’s live performance will soon be taken to the road this summer when he embarks on his co-headlining tour with old ‘Idol’ friend Ruben Studdard, which kicks off on July 23 in Asheville, N.C. In a way, as of late, things really have come full circle for Aiken. “We’re two very, very, very, very different people and we’re kind of brought together by music, which I think is kind of nice and somewhat poetic,” Aiken says. “We are gonna be able to do this on the road together and kind of share what we both love.”

Be sure and watch the video  at AOL or Popeater.  This is a great bit of publicity for Clay and it would be nice to show our support.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
