Clay fans watched the auction of the BroadwayCares bears in February.  Most fans know that the Sir Robin Bear was in the top place again this year and sold for $16,000.  But, did you know that The Broadway Bears XII raised a total of $152,116 which is over $20,000 more than last year’s auction.  To date, the 12 seasons of bear auctions has raised $1,650,000.

On the music front, Taylor Swift topped the charts again last week with her album, “Fearless.”  11 weeks at the top of the charts is amazing for this young country star.

U2 is on track to reach the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart this week.  “No Line On the Horizon” could do more than 400,000 in its first week.  U2’s last studio album, “How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb,” sold 840,000 in its first week in 2004 and totaled more than 3.2 million copies in the U.S.

The news on Friday regarding celebrities and their lifestyle choices was pretty shocking.  First, we read the details of the alleged attack on Rihanna by Chris Brown.  From all accounts it was a brutal attack and showed a young man who was completely out of control.  But, then we read that Chris was on his MySpace page a few days later, pleading with his fans to vote for him for two Kid’s Choice Awards.

Next came the report that Grammy-winning rapper, Coolio, was arrested at LAX on suspicion of possessing drugs, including crack cocaine.  Finally, Reuters reported that football star-turned actor, Brian Bosworth was arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of driving his Harley Davidson motorcycle drunk along Hollywood Blvd.

Lost in these headlines was the news that Clay Aiken’s Foundation was awarded a $40,000 grant to work with Johns Hopkins University so that all children can be included in the summer camp experience.

This certainly makes you think. Have you ever heard any teasing from talk show hosts, DJ’s and bloggers regarding the three arrested celebrities??  Have you ever heard any teasing about the humanitarian??  We really live in an odd world, don’t we?  However, I would imagine that each person who has read this article knows who the better man is.  Could you be more proud of Clay?

What is it about North Carolina?  Does everyone sing there?  Maybe there is something special in the water………North Carolina is the home state to 6 American Idol contestants.  Although each one brought something special to their season of American Idol, Clay is the name that comes up first when you think of a musical star from North Carolina.

Before we move on today, a big thank you is sent to all our readers.  Your support is appreciated.  We are having fun and hope that you are having fun too.

  1. totally having fun here

it is shocking that so many celeb’s get news, but the good deeds never are mentioned. Point in case.. Clay Aiken’s foundation.. good news!!!

  2. I look forward to your daily blogs. They are always informative and I agree it’s a shame that the good deeds go unnoticed. With the state of the world today I think we all need more of the uplifting stories and less of the negative happenings.

  3. shyeyewitness and zanyforclay….I agree with you both……

It’s almost that if you’re bad…you get better press….. If you’re good…you get no press…boring!!!!!!.. What a sad world we live in for sure.

I even think back to footgate…how that was blown totally out of proportion… It was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard, and got a ton of press for the wrong reasons…..from Clay thinking he was such a big star, that he can do what he wants (with his feet????) give me a break… and then they made fun of him, cause the woman hit him and he didn’t hit back…what a wimp???? Can you imagine if he had hit her back? OMG…He was doomed no matter what he did or didn’t do… This kind of stuff, just blows my mind..it really does..

What has happened to the media???? Where did it all go wrong? Or has society become so desensitized, that we thrive on shocking news.??? I don’t know…but it is sad.

Thank you CANN for always giving us the scoop on things…IN PERSPECTIVE….

    Hugs,
    Judy

  4. suereu says … I WANT A BAIL OUT!!! (although it may be a good idea to wait until a tour is announced

Can you imagine a bunch of Clay fans going before Congress to ask for tour money! At least we wouldn't be arriving in private jets!

  5. The world we live rewards bad behavior frequently. The Chris Brown/Rhianna incident will probably increase their sales.
Clay Aiken continues to help promote inclusion for all, but the “kewl” ones aren’t interested. He is a winner.

  6. I remember when Clay made a statement about “Footgate”. At the end he said something to the effect of “now that I have your attention, check out how you can help a child through UNICEF” (not a direct quote, but you get the idea). When Clay’s statement was picked up by the media, almost to a single website/magazine/TV Show – that part of the quote was dropped.

It’s so very sad to me that these celebrities continue to be rewarded for bad behavior. Chris Brown should be taken off the Kid’s Choice Awards – no questions asked. If my child (who is 11) was interested in this program, I may have to tell him “no”. I will not support a TV show that would continue to offer their “support” to this man – shame on them.

  7. Thanks for all the news! Yes, I think there is something in the water in NC – ha! Just so happy that one Clay Aiken decided to tryout for this little reality TV show. What a difference he has made in the lives of so many!!!!

  8. LCV The ladies of CANN are doing a GREAT JOB 😀 !!!

and, just so you all know, I’m still irked about Chris Brown and the Kid’s Choice Awards – grrrrrr

  9. I keep checking in at the chat. not much action, but alot of action on this very informative blog!

Thank-you for doing a great job, Clay Aiken is so worth it!

  10. Chris Brown is still going to be on the Kid’s Choice Awards…..seriously?? And Rhianna went back to him? What in the world is wrong with everyone???

  11. I am so proud of Clay Aiken and the work he does, not to mention his wonderful singing.

But it frustrates me to death that his humanitarian works gets almost NO press, while the media is quick to report the extremely bad behavior of other stars.

There is surely something wrong in a society when bad is rewarded and good is ignored.

  12. I wonder if it’s the press or the public to blame. So many great things get buried for stories like footgate. I often wonder if it’s the press to blame or the viewing public who searches stuff like this out. No wonder why people are so cynical now. I imagine that if the press wanted to report good things, that celebs wouldn’t be hounded and feel like they’re a goldfish in a shark tank. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI92odhNX8I

  13. Wasn’t the National Enquirer supposed to go bankrupt in January. Did they get a government bailout too?!

  14. LOL Paula!!! That bear is SO CUTE!!!

Yes, Chris Brown is still on The Kid’s Choice Awards – I went and checked before I posted here. I also understand he just recently posted a myspace blog asking people to go vote for him (don’t get me started on blogs)

  15. Wow, I just got cyber-kicked out for a minute!
Now, where was I. Oh yeah, Chris Brown should be taken off the list of the Kid’s Choice Awards. That behavior should not be rewarded. And to put him in front of kids….you’ve got to be kidding me.

  16. Wish I was kidding Paula – it’s so wrong. I understand innocent until proven guilty, but COME ON!!!

  17. Love the news stories at CANN. You guys do a great job, and we know everything you print is true, unlike such stalwart publications as the NE. I hope they did go bankrupt, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they did get a bailout. Everyone else is, except me!

  18. I heard on the news that Chris and Rhianna are going to write a book about abuse then do the talk show circuit together. They think that will save Chris’s career–if he appears to be getting help and helping others.

  19. Looks like the NE is not quite dead yet…

National Enquirer Parent Company AMI Pretty Much Bankrupt
    Gawker reports:
National Enquirer and Star publisher American Media has, for all practical purposes, gone bust. Although they left enough wiggle room to declare a successful non-bankruptcy!

You may recall that AMI has been battling bankruptcy rumors for months, after taking on too much debt. Clearly, AMI couldn’t afford to pay back what they owe. So now they’ve come to a resolution: handing 95% of the company over to creditors! This is, uh, “avoiding” bankruptcy:

The agreement, which reduces the company’s debt by $227.2 million, transfers ownership of 95 percent of AMI’s common stock to bondholders, the company said Sunday evening.

  20. Oh pahleeze, a talk show tour about abuse. The first time she disagrees with him, he’ll haul off and hit her again. That beating was so violent… he needs professional help…. which he should get right after he does some jail time.

  21. I can’t type what I want to say LOL!!

I hope he gets help, but writing a book is NOT GETTING HELP!!!

They more than likely will not give him jail time, but they could at least give him a sentence of mandatory counseling (and maybe some – nevermind)

  22. Yeah, I would say years of intensive counseling. And the whole Kid’s Choice Awards thing is all wrong. He should be withdrawing his name, not asking for fans to vote for him!

  23. Deona, withdrawing his name would be the first step towards making amends (which is one of the reasons why I don’t think he will ever ever ever change)

OT: Is it wrong to watch that Mary Did You Know video from Tyra with my mouth hanging open? Clay sounded and looked soooooooo good!!!!

  24. I am so perturbed about the way the ChrisBrown/Rihanna situation is being presented in the media. No doubt he is a classic abuser and she an abusee that thinks she can cure him. Supposedly they got back together at PDiddy’s estate.

  25. suereu said: OT: Is it wrong to watch that Mary Did You Know video from Tyra with my mouth hanging open?
    ………………………….>

Only if you don’t let your husband see the drool on your chin.

You guys are doing such a great job with this site. *thunderous applause*

I’m here every day, even if you can’t see me. ;-D It’s awfully nice to have a place to come for the TRUTH.

I, too, wish the media would focus more on the positive accomplishments of celebs, but that old newspaper chestnut still holds true: If it bleeds, it leads. Sorry, but once in awhile I like puppies and rainbows!

  26. I can’t even begin to imagine what the acting job will be that Clay participates in on ANTM. Do you think it will require a British accent??!!

  27. I’m wondering if they don’t have a field trip to the Shubert Theatre, which may make it Spam kind of related. In my perfect world, it’d be a music video 😉

  28. Ok, sue, 31 days til Clay is on my tv. Now are there any other tv appearances coming up for him? Or where would we like to see him?

  29. Most of you know that my brother was murdered. I don’t think that I ever explained how. He was beaten to death and the cause of death was blunt head trauma and manual strangulation.

When I read about the idiot Brown and what he did to Rihanna, all I could think was…she is very lucky to have survived. If her head had hit to window an inch or so one way or the other, she could have been gone.

My brother’s murderer had prior convictions with assault with a deadly weapon, burglary etc. If they would have locked him up, my brother would still be here. I have no comprehension how this creep Brown can even be out on bail. He will do it again and next time it may be fatal. So much for my respect for Nickolodeon.

Clay Aiken deserves respect for the inclusion awareness, empathy and respect that he gives to children all over the world. No, he doesn’t beat the hell out of them or bite them, or smash them up against windows, so I guess it isn’t salacious enough for the Press. Sad, sad situation.

On a happy note, Kielbasa!!!! Miss you and hope you are doing well.
