Clay Aiken – 400 Laps

Are you a racing fan?  Are you a Clay Aiken fan?  Well, if you answered yes to both of those questions, June 6, 2004 was a banner day for you.

Clay Aiken performed the national anthem and Measure of A Man at the MBNA 400: A Salute to Heroes race in Dover Deleware.  Clay chose to sing Measure of A Man to honor the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

There was a huge live crowd in attendance and millions who watched on TV.  The 400 laps/400 mile race was a big event in the racing schedule for the year.  Does Clay like racing?

The following is a video of Clay singing The Star Spangled Banner at the race in Dover.

  1. I had actually forgotten all about this performance by Clay. Very nice. He looks so incredibly young in that video. I like what the commentator says at the end. Something like “that’s a very good rendition”. Now I am going to have to go find the footage of the charity concert from that same weekend.

  2. Thanks for brining back the memories. It’s fun to look back at some of the things Clay has done in his six year career. I love the way he sings SSB.

  3. Oh, I so remember this event. I had to go to my daughters house to watch it because I did not get the channel they showed it on, on my cable. He sure sang the SSB beautifully. I love those glory notes he put in there. Thanks for the memories.

  4. :-0 I’ve never seen that before – wow……..

Thanks!!! Clay Aiken did an amazing job on the SSB – tough song to sing, but he’s got the range for it. I particularly like that he sang the song, didn’t over sing it (I hate that).

Now I gotta watch it again 😀

  5. Thanks for this video. I loved his rendition of the SSB that day. That whole Dover weekend was just another time in the career of Clay Aiken.

  6. I’m constantly amazed that you folks here at CANN have something to report about Clay Aiken every day of the week! Keep up the good work!

  7. I loved when the announcer said it was a “great rendition.” I think it was the best rendition of the SSB I have ever heard.

  8. I’m not a racing fan, but I love Clay Aiken and his rendition of the SSB! Just beautiful!
