Hi guys! We’re in beautiful Maine. Clay was magnificent…

I will share a silly conversation I had with the guard at the porta potty station this afternoon at the venue. I commented that I thought it was a great idea to have them set up outdooors because there were hardly any lines. The nice young guard said they were set up for only the full house shows and all ‘Josephs absolutely Sell out. They credited Clay and his Claynation. They are thrilled he’s here and doing fantastic in the box office and happy  we are here for him. He was sweet and sincere.. It’s a win for him. I can’t tell you how many locals asked if we were here to see Clay. They are all sweet and happy he’s here and of course that we’ve (all of us and more to come) been around here too.
Seeing double,, it’s getting late… Show was more than what I expected…

Picture from afternoon Stagedoor! (Thanks, ncwannbe)

Saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat last night at the Ogunquit Playhouse with Christy Cole-Burrows. Great show and Clay Aiken made an excellent Joseph!

Just got home from Maine late last night and want to go right back again. It’s beautiful there. We saw the show Saturday night and Sunday night. There was no show on Monday. We had such an incredible time. I laughed so much and cried and was just grinning from ear to ear. The show is fantastic. I have always loved Spamalot but this is so much better. Clay was amazing! We had great center seats so I saw all his facial expressions and just about died inside when he was being kicked and pushed and thrown into a hole. I don’t know what’s in the hole but it’s not that big. He’s on the brothers’ uplifted arms laying on their hands with his arms raised straight up in the air and they just jettison him into the hole feet first. I kept thinking he could be hurt because they just threw him in a flash and he was gone. Later they pull him up by his arms and he’s just fine. The second night I held my breath when they did it and still felt uneasy about his safety. Hopefully there are people in that hole who catch him.

The entire cast was first rate. We enjoyed everyone in the show. Our special favorites after Clay were Elvis, the brothers and the narrator. I could not believe that I was laughing through a bible story but it was done so well it seemed everyone enjoyed it a lot and had a great time.

During intermission we went to get some souveniers and the lady and man selling them asked us where we came from. We said Pennsylvania and the lady asked us directly if we came because of Clay. We smiled and said yes we did. She then told us that they knew of Clay but didn’t realize he had such a huge fan base that will travel to see him. She said the theater has never been this full and that Clay has the best fans. The man was very impressed how many people have flown in to see the show because of Clay. He said that never happened there before. Most people vacation there and come to see whatever is playing at the time. They were amazed at all the fans who travelled from across the country and Canada just to see Clay. They said he’s the biggest draw that they ever had and were very pleased at the attendance. I don’t have the exact figures but it looked 99.9% full for both nights.

So…this post is made up of many little nuggets.  Each one adds a bit more excitement to the story of Clay and Joseph’s Dreamcoat!   As always, a HUGE thank you to everyone for sharing all the information.  It is really kind to those who cannot see the production in person.

On Thursday, there will be two more shows.  Hopefully, we will get more information and we can share again!

Are you enjoying the reviews of Clay in Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat?

  1. All of these articles and reports – and also pictures are just so great. It is wonderful that so many are
going to see Clay and the people in Maine are taking notice – how loved he is !!! I am so grateful for
every bit of news!! Thank you all that are taking the time to post!! Puts a smile on my face!

  2. Thank you for searching the internet and bringing all this information over to us. Love reading all the positive and glowing stories/reviews for Clay.
I love that the folks at the Playhouse are enjoying all the fans coming from all over.

I read many many reviews (most on here!!!) and I wonder if anyone has taken notice that so many reviewers from Broadway, Hollywood, Yahoo, People and E are reviewing this show and mainly Clay. I am wondering- Do they usually review shows in Ogunquit Maine or is it just Clay??? Has anyone at the playhouse taken notice of all the publicity he is bringing?? It's a win/win. Clay is back to folks noticing his amazing talent and the Playhouse is getting sales and in the news!!!! I am extremely happy for both of them and US! 🙂

  3. I am loving all the positive comments from those that have seen the show, and love how the staff at the Playhouse are enjoying the "buzz" that carries around Clay. It's all good!

  4. So wonderful to be getting all this news about Clay, seems to be more exciting every day and thanks to those fans for all their info, much appreciated and love the video and photo. Thanks Muicfan xox.

  6. im so glad clay and the show is doing amazingley well ilove to hear all the reports and seeing the pics oh and happy birthday parker foster aiken

  7. Thank you for posting all these wonderful tidbits. BUT, I don't think as fans we should be responding to the negative ones. We're not going to change anybody's opinion and we just make ourselves look like a bunch of "Mommies!" Clay doesn't need any more mothers and his performance will stand out regardless of a bunch of griefers who have nothing better to do than post negative comments on the internet. He's asked us time and time again not to defend him. I'm taking his direction. I certainly appreciate the effort you put into supporting him but I just don't think it's necessary for his fans to respond to any and all comments or reviews that are not glowing. That's show business!

    • Hi Sue… Thanks for commenting.

For the life of me I can not see how you thought I was encouraging people to confront negative posters…that is the last thing we should do.

That being said, I do think it is important to comment on sites.. something like…"I am looking forward to seeing Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the playhouse. I am looking forward to seeing Keala and Clay as I think they are both very talented."

The following is a quote of what I said in the blog titled In The Hollywood Reporter:

"The article includes a two videos. I hope you will all go over and read the entire article and see the videos. Also, leave a nice comment. The site needs some calm, easy comments thanking the site for the great article. I refuse to get into an argument with others. You can see the entire article at HOLLYWOOD"

Comments are important to sites and writers. They are monitored. If no one comments at a site, they will probably not post news about Clay. Comments are the way we can thank the site and writer for posting a positive article about Clay…AND, WE SHOULD ALWAYS IGNORE THE IDIOTS.

      Thanks…

      • I'm not seeing it either and I also agree that comments are important – it shows interest in an artist (either positive or negative – sites don't care – interest drives hits which drives revenue).

I'm loving all the positives that I'm reading and I'm truly looking forward to my trip to the East Coast! Two weeks from TODAY!!!

      • I'm puzzled by this comment. I just read (above) lots of positive comments and reviews and feedback from folks who've seen "Joseph" and from the Ogunquit Playhouse staff. I didn't see any evidence here of anyone acting like a "Mommy". I must have missed something.

I'll add my own review of the play. Clay was wonderful, his voice was superb and the entire cast was great. The play was as good as those I've seen on Broadway. As I left the theater, I heard so much praise (especially for Clay) from people who had not followed him.
I'd hazard a guess that he has picked up a few new fans during this run!!

    • Perhaps my eyesight is going bad, but I don't see anywhere in this blog where musicfan is asking us to respond to negative comments or defend Clay. I know some fans do this a lot, but musicfan is not encouraging it nor do I. I will leave a positive comment, however, when I feel it's the right thing to do.

  8. The only time I really reply to a comment on an article is if the person is being truly ignorant. On the Yahoo article many folks commented with anti gay slurs such as "he looks so gay" "could he get any gayer" things of that nature. I simply said that it doesn't matter who is gay and who isn't. The show was wonderful and Clay is a great man, gay or not.
I also see many people comment on stories about people of a different race. I yell at them too!

  9. I am loving all the amazing comments that you have posted regarding Clay and the musical. There is so much publicity and I am sure the theater is delighted with it. I do think it is important to post a comment on positive articles regarding Clay. They know we are reading their sites and care what they say.
Having said that, Sue I don't understand your post. I don't see where we have been encouraged to "defend" Clay. Clay does not want that and I don't see where you got the impression that we were to do that. Again, I am loving all the good publicity the musical and Clay are receiving.
