Clay Aiken – A Tattoo Here – A Tattoo There!

Do you remember “They Will Be Locked”? Clay Aiken shouted out this phrase when he was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live in September of 2006.

As always, Clay and Jimmy seemed to enjoy chatting with each other. Jimmy introduced Clay as his best friend and Clay presented Jimmy with his Relly award that he took from Jimmy’s office.

Jimmy had collected some items from Clay’s Fan Club store. Jimmy held up 2 different boxer shorts, a thong, a signed pashmina and a paper fan that featured Clay’s face!!

Clay related a story about a presidential motorcade that stopped traffic and made Clay wait for about 25 minutes. He told about the limo driver that was not too patient when Clay was concerned about the door of the limo being locked….so “THEY WILL BE LOCKED!!”

Two young ladies who were a part of the audience were shown having Clay’s signature tattooed on their backs. They came up to the stage to show Clay. However, Clay could not be out-done. He rolled up his pant-leg and showed off his “tattoo” of Jimmy. He even complained that he had to shave his leg for Jimmy.

After the chat, Clay moved to the Pontiac Stage and gave a short concert for the audience. The television audience heard A Thousand Days and a few lines of Invisible. The live audience heard Without You, When I See You Smile and Sorry Seems To Be the Hardest Word.

I hope that Clay will have the opportunity to visit Jimmy again. The two men really entertain the audience when they chat together…its great TV!!

Have you even seen Clay live at a TV taping?

  1. One of my favorite Clay videos! Don't you just love aggressive Clay? He was so adorable
on Jimmy's show that night. Oh how I cherish those early days…….

  2. No, I haven't been to a live tv performance, 🙁 cos I live in the middle of the country, but I DID get a tattoo on my ankle. I used the autograph from the letter he sent when you joined the fan club. It was several years ago. It's my pride and joy! It looks like Clay signed my ankle!! Thanks for the pictures musicfan! He was on fire!!

  6. This was one of my favorite late night Clay appearances. Way past my bedtime, but worth being tired the next day. I also taped it watched it many times.

I've never seen a live tv performance, but I did go to the Raleigh PBS taping (aka the OMG concert).
Have also been lucky enough to go to at least one concert for every tour (except for the Independent one) and to Spamalot and Joseph. I feel very fortunate and hope there will be many more Clay events in my futures.

Thanks for this "Memory Lane" blog!!!

  9. I did drive to Raleigh to watch Clay tape the PBS special, Tried & True. It was so exciting to watch him sing his heart out. Watched the taped version on our PBS station and called in to donate. Got the DVD so I can watch it whenever I want.

  10. Remember Clay and Sara Silverman in bed? and when Clay was on the horse and the horse"liked" Clay? If Clay moves to Ca or NY he could be on television a lot more often!
