Clay Aiken – 30,000 Santas

Although Clay Aiken is busy running around New York City, he took the time to send another message:

Thank you, New York City, for giving me a nice snowy start to the holidays. But I could have done without all the drunken Santas all over the streets!

OK…What did Clay mean…I had to find out!

~~~~~
Are you familiar with the Christmas song, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town?  It’s a fun song that relates the excitement of Santa Claus.  But for many people in New York City, multiple Santas descending on the city by the thousands is obnoxious.
Saturday, December 14th was SantaCon. According to their website:
SANTACON IS A CHARITABLE, NON-COMMERCIAL, NON-POLITICAL, NONSENSICAL SANTA CLAUS CONVENTION THAT HAPPENS ONCE A YEAR FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON.
But to many the event is just an excuse to get drunk, act stupid and pass out on the street. Yesterday, over 30,000 people dressed up as Santa and participated in a bar crawl throughout the city of New York.
SantaCon originated in San Francisco in 1994.  It has spread to cities around the world, and now takes place in 400 cities in 44 countries, including New York City, London, Belfast, Singapore, and Moscow. The New York SantaCon is the largest.
So, if you think it would be fun to visit New York City for the holidays next year, be sure to check the calendar for SantaCon.  It might influence your plans.  Some will think the event is disruptive and rowdy, but others may just feel it’s what makes New York, New York!
Do you remember when Clay sang Santa Claus Is Coming To Town?
It was the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade in 2003.
According to their press release:
Milestone 20th Annual ‘Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade’
Singing idol Enrique Iglesias, American Idol favorite Clay Aiken, pop star Jessica Simpson and gifted singer-songwriter-actor (and Entertainment Tonight correspondent) Carlos Ponce entertain in special Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade performances.
  1. Oh what fun it would be and SOOOOOOO confusing to have children see one of these gatherings! Martha, I KNOW you know what I mean! Has anybody ripped this song for download? I would LOVE to have a copy of it to add to my many Christmas songs by Clay! We have such talented people in our fandom! Loved Clay's tweet and no, I didn't know anything about it! What fun!
  2. Well, this is New York, and we see crazy happenings all the time, so no big deal here. However, I wouldn't plan on visiting the city that day to do some last minute shopping although you never
    know who you will bump into while there (perhaps Clay?) LOL
  3. Well I’m not sure I get the point if Santa.con and I agree it’s a little confusing. Especially if they are just getting drunk. But it’s always fun to get a tweet from Clay so I’m happy. Wish I could have seen him at the parade. Clay and Disneywotld. What could be more fun ??
  4. It's okay except for getting drunk, not good example for young people, but it's a free country so what can I say, anyway I loved the video and song with Clay, he's such a good roll model for us and loved his tweet. Thanks Martha xo
