Clay Aiken – Played A Prominent Role

On Sunday, May 18, 2014, The Annual Billboard Awards were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. That reminded me that Clay Aiken appeared on the 2003 Billboard Awards Show. For an artist who was new to the professional music scene, Clay played a prominent role in the evening gala. Ryan Seacrest was the host of the evening and he had Clay help with the opening of the show.

The Billboard Music Awards were first presented in 1989. For many years they were held annually and always in December. In 2007, the awards were cancelled and did not return until May 22, 2011. Much like the American Music Awards, the winners are chosen on popularity. The awards are given out based on the Billboard year-end music charts. Some of the categories are top selling album, top selling artist and top selling single.

Clay was introduced and then performed Invisible to an enthusiastic audience. After the performance, Clay was presented with the award for the best selling single of the year.

Clay was accompanied to the BMA Award show by his mother, Faye. They both looked wonderful as they walked down the Red Carpet in Las Vegas and Clay was stopped many times by the press.

It was wonderful to see Clay win the Billboard Award and his performance was amazing. However, there were some very negative and vulgar jokes by Dave Grohl and Triumph the Wonder Dog that night. They really were “Crass” as they joked about Clay.

The following video shows Clay’s introduction, his performance of Invisible and his acceptance speech…no Dogs allowed!!

As always, I will be watching for up-to-date news about Clay Aiken and his run for The U.S. House of Representatives.

I will post the news as soon as it is available so check in during the day!

  1. Thanks for the video. I didn't like the intro, but I enjoyed seeing Clay sing and get an award.

I hope we get some news from Clay today. I want to get back to Political Clay.

  2. I forgot about the horrible intro by Kathy…UG.

But I did love seeing Clay sing and so glad he got an award for his single.

Thank you for putting this up. I never watch the Billboard Awards so I had no idea it was last night!

  3. I remember waiting to watch Clay on this show. I wouldn't have watched it otherwise. I can't remember what Dave Grohl said, although I do know it was not comfortable to watch, and Clay looked embarased and he had said he wished he could have taken his Mom out of there and gone to a Cracker Barrel. Seems it was fine for the cool people to make fun of Clay. ONLY NOT!!!! Dave G. should be ashamed of himself.

  4. Oh..I meant to say…thank you for bringing over the video again…Clay gave a wonderful performance, and was a thrill to see him win the award. Strange that a song that was the biggest selling song of that year, never gets played…Odd.

  5. I was lucky to have been in Las Vegas to see this great performance by Clay! So great he had the number one single that year. It was fun to see Clay, Faye, Kelly, etc. on the red carpet before the show.

  6. Waiting to hear from Clay again. Watched AMA only once for Clay, have never watched again. Always nice to see your videos. Judy, your right, that song never gets any air play.

  7. i wonder if we will get news about clay i sure did love clay singing in the bill board music awards and i was verry amazed and happy that he got an award i was hoping hed win that for his single
