Clay Aiken – Hometown Hero!

On Thursday, March 31st, American Idol performed for the last time on their Hollywood Stage.  Next week, the show moves across town to the Dolby Theatre for the last week of American Idol.

One of the interesting things about last Thursday’s show was the Hometown Hero visits.  It was fun to see the excitement of the young singers as they saw the crowds of people in their hometowns who were there to see them and support them.

I remember seeing the Hometown visit Clay Aiken made during Season 2.  He met with school children, visited with his family, and even threw out the 1st ball at the Durham Bulls Baseball Game.  He even flew in a private jet!!    It really looked like he had a good time.

Those kids are so excited!

Just a short song!!

Can you imagine how exciting this must have been for Clay?

Do you remember watching this during Season 2?

  1. His hometown visit was one of my favorite episodes, Clay seemed surprised by the enormous reception from his hometown! Watching him at the ballpark seeking out familiar faces in the crowd was heartwarming! Singing the National Anthem was amazing! Thank you CANN for bringing us Clay memories!

  2. I sure do remember Clay going home….What a thrill it must have been for him. I remember from the clip, at the baseball diamond, when he saw someone he knew, and he waved to them…he had tears in his eyes…like this moment totally over took him. I wouldn't have missed anything from Season 2…my world revolved around AI back then….anything for Clay. Hard to believe this was 13 years ago… Look at how much Clay has grown!!!! Grown into this amazing talented singer, Activist. There are just so many adjectives to his name…THIS IS WHAT AN AMERICAN IDOL SHOULD BE. No one even comes close to the things he has done. I am amazed at all of it myself!!

  3. Oh yes, I remember watching Clay go home to Raleigh during AI2. As he was being driven down the road, lots of people were waiting to see him with banners and screaming. He looked like he couldn't believe it was all for him. I believe he teared up a couple of times. Clay has accomplished an amazing amount of life changing events in the past 13 years.
