The Memorial’s twin reflecting pools are each nearly an acre in size and feature the largest man-made waterfalls in the North America. The pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood. Architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker created the Memorial design selected from a global design competition that included more than 5,200 entries from 63 nations.
The names of every person who died in the 2001 and 1993 attacks are inscribed into bronze panels edging the Memorial pools, a powerful reminder of the largest loss of life resulting from a foreign attack on American soil and the greatest single loss of rescue personnel in American history.
Today, I dedicate this article to Rahma Salie and Michael Theodoridis. These two young people were on the way to California to participate in my son and daughter-in-law’s wedding. They, and their unborn baby will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Where were you on 9/11/2001?
I was waking up and watching "Good Morning America" and saw the horrific scene of The "Twin Towers" being destroyed! Will never get that time out of my head and heart!
No one will ever forget this day! I never thought I see anything like it in my lifetime. I knew several people who lost their lives. Sorry for the loss of the 3 people coming to you for sure a happy occasion.

I was at my desk on the phone at the H.S. where I worked. A radio station was playing over the phone while I was on hold. I was confused by what I heard…not music as usual, but 2 announcers talking about some sort of attack. I asked one of the teachers who was passing by to get on a computer and see if he could find out what was going on. The first plane had just hit the tower. It was so difficult to let the students know what was happening at that time without terrifying them.
I was doing housework and paused to watch the tv as a plane was crashing into the first tower. I stood frozen in disbelief and fear. I thought that was it for us and the rest of the US would be under attack shortly. It was the worst of days. Who will ever forget it. Certainly not the ones who were dancing and cheering.
