Did you watch the Tony Awards on Sunday night? The 67th Annual Tony Awards were hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and were held in Radio City Music Hall. It was an exciting night for Broadway.
The Tony Awards got their start in 1947 by the American Theatre Wing to celebrate excellence in the theatre. It has developed into the best-known national platform for the recognition of theatrical achievement on Broadway.
On Sunday night, the musical Kinky Boots led the Tonys with six awards. They included wins for the best musical, for leading actor Billy Porter and for Cyndi Lauper, the musical composer. The revival of Stephen Schwartz’s musical Pippin picked up four Tonys and the beautiful Cicely Tyson won her first Tony.
I found it interesting to learn that The Tony Awards ceremony has been presented at the Shubert Theatre eight times, more than at any other Broadway theatre…yes…the same theatre where Clay Aiken starred in Spamalot.
The program was exciting from the moment Neil Patrick Harris opened the show. He kicked off the show with a big musical number that included performers from about a dozen Broadway musicals. He was even joined by Mike Tyson who was dancing onstage.
What a treat to see so many wonderfully talented people who have the ability to take the audience to another place in the world.
But…I missed Clay. I look forward to the day we see him at The Tony Awards. How could we forget his fabulous role as Man In Chair in The Drowsy Chaperone and his amazing work in Spamalot…Yes, Clay belongs on Broadway!
Neil Patrick Harris was fabulous! The opening number was so entertaining. He talks so fast and how the hell did he remember all those words? Not only that but the closing number was great too. Loved that somebody wrote all the highlights down from the evening and made it into a song!! I could have seen Clay singing like that. I've seen Clay's performance in Spamalot, althought I never made it to NYC. I haven't seen his whole performance in TDC yet. Waiting for a CD from downloads. The Tony's show is a must see every single year and oh yes, can't wait for Clay!

I don't think that is what Clay wants to do..I am he would be great but I love his singing and touring so much, He just needs a new CD written for him, he can sing anything…..
The Tony Awards is a must see for me each year. Neil Patrick Harris can't be beat as the emcee. I, too, am hoping that some day Clay will be nominated for a Tony. The Shubert Theatre looked so much bigger on TV than it did when I sat in the audience for Spamalot. Of course, I was only concentrating on Clay and not checking out the theatre back then.
Clay would be awesome in a new show or revival. But then again he’s awesome at everything!
i agree margeret this is indeed not what clay wants to do and ilove his singing also its amazing and his touring and i also think that clay needs anther new cd to sing on and written clay can sure sing anything
Those video's were hilarious! Clay sure has got the acting bug down pat. Would love to see him in another Broadway Play. But, one where he gets to sing big time. I would also like him to do another album..or even an EP with a few songs on it. Would be nice to have another Juke Box Tour too.
