A BIG Thank you to all of you who participated in the Song Poll this week.  It was fun to see some names I didn’t recognize.  I hope you will comment again!!

I found the results of the poll to be very interesting.  Of course, this is just a small group of fans that voted, but it still showed a trend.  So…here we go!!

Measure of A Man

Every song from this album received votes.  This Is The Night received the least votes.

10 points – The Way

8 points – Measure of A Man

6 points – Touch

5 points – I Survived You

Merry Christmas With Love

Four songs received no votes

18 points – Mary, Did You Know

13 points – Don’t Save It All For Christmas Day

8 points – O Holy Night

A Thousand Different Ways

This was very close…there didn’t seem to be a huge favorite from this album.

7 points – Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word

6 points – A Thousand Days

5 points – Because You Loved Me

5 points – Here You Come Again

5 points – Broken Wings

On My Way Here

The only song without any vote was Weight of The World.

9 points – Something About Us

8 points – Everything I Don’t Need

4 points – Ashes, As Long As We’re Here, Sacrificial Love

Tried & True

Every song received at least one point…but this wasn’t even close!!

24 points – Unchained Melody

7 points – Suspicious Minds

5 points – It’s Impossible

There were lots of comments that mentioned All Is Well and wanted to vote for it.  Also, Lover All Alone received votes for two albums…if you put them together; people seem to really enjoy it!!

Are the results surprising to you?  Did any of your favorites win??

Thanks again for participating.  I think this was fun!!

A quick apology for the Wednesday Blog.   I need to proof-read a little better.  I did know that August 24th was not Clay’s birthday…I just didn’t write it clearly.  I did change it when I checked in the morning!!

If you are reading this, Congrats!  You have survived the Rapture!  The world didn’t come to an end.  It is Sunday and life couldn’t be sweeter.

I don’t know about you, but I was enjoying a pleasant meal with my husband Saturday evening and didn’t even realize when 6pm came and went!  Instead of waiting and watching for the end, I decided to just live in the now and enjoy life.

I thought a lot about Clay Aiken performances that might make sense as we look back to Saturday… We can celebrate the fact that we survived!

Joy Behar suggested “Looks Like We Made It” by Barry Manilow… well I want Clay songs!!

How about Ashes?  I thought we were all supposed to go up in ashes!!

Of course the song that makes the most sense…I’m Not Dead Yet!

But…at the end… ALL IS WELL!

Clay Aiken – Introducing Wonderful Christmas Songs!

By musicfan123 · Comments 10132(8)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F12%2F20%2Fclay-aiken-introducing-wonderful-christmas-songs%2FClay+Aiken+-+Introducing+Wonderful+Christmas+Songs%212010-12-20+07%3A43%3A12musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10132

Christmas carols and hymns are one aspect of the holiday season that never fails to lift the spirits and they require no baking, no tree stands, and no extension cords. There is a large body of well-known Christmas songs that are perennial favorites and there are many more that are new to many people every year.  Clay Aiken has introduced many lesser-known, but wonderful Christmas carols and songs to his fans throughout the last few years.

Did you know……..

  1. There is a distinction between a Christmas carol and a Christmas song. A Christmas Carol has a fairly rapid, regular beat, which would, therefore, exclude a meandering, crooning song such as “White Christmas”.  A choir can often sing Christmas carols, but this is not the case for pop music.
  2. The world’s most famous Christmas carol is “Silent Night”.
  3. “Jingle Bells” was originally named, “ One-Horse Open Sleigh”, and was written for Thanksgiving, not for Christmas.
  4. Charles Dickens story, “A Christmas Carol”, is the world’s most read Christmas story.
  5. In 2003, the Austrian Trade Union Federation, representing 100,000 workers, claimed that the non-stop playing of Christmas carols in shopping malls was “psychological terror.”

“The Christmas Waltz” is a modern Christmas song.  The lyrics are by Sammy Cahn and the music is by Jule Styne.  It is a good example of a modern secular Christmas song.  This song describes the wonderful joy of the season without necessarily being religious. “The Christmas Waltz” has been reprised by many singers including Frank Sinatra and the Carpenters. Clay Aiken recorded this song on his EP, All Is Well.

The Christmas Waltz

Frosted window panes
Candles gleaming inside
Painted candy canes on the tree
Santa’s on his way,
He’s filled his sleigh
With things, things for you and for me

It’s that time of year
When the world falls in love
Every song you hear
Seems to say
Merry Christmas
May your New Year dreams come true
And this song of mine
In three quarter time
Wishes you and yours
The same thing too

Merry Christmas
May your New Year dreams come true
And this song of mine
In three quarter time
Wishes you and yours
The same thing too
Merry Christmas to you

Clay Aiken – Listed As Executive Producer

By musicfan123 · Comments 10127(6)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F12%2F17%2Fclay-aiken-listed-as-executive-producer%2FClay+Aiken+-+Listed+As+Executive+Producer2010-12-17+10%3A12%3A15musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10127
Friday, December 17th, 2010

On November 28, 2006, Clay Aiken released a studio EP titled All Is Well.  Originally released as an exclusive recording for Wal-Mart, the popular album finally became available on iTunes in December of 2007.

There are four songs on the All Is Well EP.  The Playlist is:

  1. All Is Well
  2. Christmas Waltz
  3. O Come O Come Emmanuel
  4. My Grown-Up Christmas List

Clay Aiken is listed, along with Jaymes Foster as an Executive Producer of the EP.  All Is Well debuted at #54 on the Billboard Comprehensive Albums chart. This is unusual as it is unusual for an EP disc to chart or to have its sales tracked.

The title song, All Is Well, was written by Michael W. Smith and recorded for his album Michael W Smith Christmas in 1989.  Because it was a popular song, Smith included the song on 2 more of his albums.

Michael W. Smith has released 22 albums and ten books and has received many awards, including Dove awards and Grammy awards.  Smith is currently on a Christmas tour and will be performing another tour called 2Friends with Amy Grant in early 2011.

Clay Aiken was the featured musical guest on the Capital One Holiday Celebration on Ice in 2007.  The show was televised on Christmas Day and Clay sang songs from his albums Merry Christmas With Love and All Is Well.

Todd Eldredge is a former World Champion and 4-time U.S. Champion.  He chose All Is Well for his skating performance for the Celebration on Ice show.  For many in the audience, the performance of the two artists was the highlight of the show.  Eldredge also used Clay’s recording of this song for his Rockefeller Center performance for the Today Show.

The following video is from the Christmas broadcast of the Capital One Holiday on Ice.  I was lucky enough to be in Las Vegas for the recording of this show?  Were you there too?

Clay Aiken – Top Holiday Music

Soundscan is the official method of tracking sales of music and music video products throughout the United States and Canada. The data is collected weekly and is made available every Wednesday to subscribers, which include executives from all the different sections of the music, film and TV fields. SoundScan has been the sales source for the Billboard music charts since 1991.

On Wednesday, December 15, 2010, Billboard published their 100 Hot Lists.  Because of the holiday season, many holiday albums are a part of their list.  The following Holiday albums were all a part of the Top 50 albums by sales for the last week.

  1. Susan Boyle – The Gift
  2. Glee Cast – Christmas Album
  3. Jackie Evancho – O Holy Night
  4. Andrea Bocelli – My Christmas
  5. Mariah Carey – Merry Christmas II You
  6. Josh Groban – Noel
  7. Vince Guaraldi – Charlie Brown Christmas
  8. Now That’s What I Call Christmas V. 4 – Various Artists
  9. Annie Lennox – Christmas Cornucopia
  10. Chris Tomlin – Glory in the Highest: Christmas
  11. Lady Antebellum – Merry Little Christmas
  12. Michael Buble – Let It Snow
  13. Taylor Swift – Holiday Collection

When you look at the list, you can see that it is a combination of new albums and albums that have become classics.  I am sure that each one of the albums is very nice, but it certainly isn’t MY list of favorite Holiday Albums.  My list would be:

  1. Merry Christmas With Love – Clay Aiken (Surprise!!)
  2. All Is Well – Clay Aiken (I wish more people could hear these fabulous songs)
  3. It’s A Wonderful Christmas – Michael W. Smith (I can imagine Clay dueting on Christmas Day.)
  4. Let It Snow – Chanticleer – New Yorker Magazine calls Chanticleer “the world’s reigning male chorus.”  The 12 male voices range from countertenors to bass.  It’s different, but really amazing.
  5. Christmas Carol – James Galway – This 1986 album is more instrumental than vocal.  Because Galway is a flautist, the arrangements are a bit different than you find in other albums.

What about you?  Besides Clay’s fabulous Christmas music, do you have a favorite album or recording?  If so, why not let us know.  We don’t need Billboard – we can put together are own Top list!!

Did you see the great music player that Team Clay put on Twitter today?  What a fun way to hear Clay sing O Holy Night!

O Holy Night

Here at Clay HQ we're enjoying some holiday treats! Look for a treat from us to you this coming Friday (though not the chocolate kind...)

Clay Aiken – Roasted Boar or Figgy Pudding?

We need your help!! We all know that Clay Aiken sings carols better than anyone.  His album, Merry Christmas With Love and his EP, All Is Well are both examples of the beauty of the songs and the richness of Clay’s voice.

Many fans would love to see Clay perform again at the holiday time…….hopefully in 2011.  Many others are hoping for a new holiday album.  This is where you come in.  We need a list of the songs you would like to see on a new holiday album by Clay. Please don’t get too carried away….maybe a list of about 3 songs.  On December 13th, I will list the songs in popular order and we can see what our “scientific” poll chooses.

It might be more fun if you add your choices before you read what others choose.  I hope we get lots of different ideas.  Also, let’s not include any songs he has already recorded.  Although Clay commented that he would love to re-record some of the songs, we are looking for a list of different songs.

There is no doubt about it – Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without carols.  Even people who do not attend church still enjoy carols.  For some, they bring back all those memories of a childhood long ago and far away.  For others, Carols bring home the message and the spirit of Christmas as nothing else can.

Carols are about a baby, and a star, and the angels, and peace, goodwill, and figgy pudding.  Some carols also recall the old pagan times of holly and mistletoe, yule logs and evergreen trees, roaring fires and roasted boar and wassil.

Thank you for participating in our Christmas music list.  I hope you all will give it a try…..you’ve got all week to pick your favorites.

The Christmas Waltz is a song by the famous composing team of Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne.  It represents the wonderful joy of the season.

Clay Aiken recorded The Christmas Waltz and included it in his EP, All Is Well that was originally released as a Wal-Mart Exclusive in 2006.  Clay has sung the song many times when he has performed on various television shows during the holiday season.

The talented SueReu just put together a wonderful video featuring Clay singing The Christmas Waltz. What a great way to start off the holiday season.  Thank you, SueReu!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
