Today is April 1st, 2012. Is Clay Aiken at home in North Carolina? Is he playing pranks on his friends?? Of course we do not know where he is and that is fine. However, I wonder if we might get some fun tweets today as Clay gets ready for a long night of Celebrity Apprentice. Somehow, pranks and Clay Aiken seem to go together.

This morning, lets have some fun…I am sure we will have lots of pictures, videos, reports and articles after the show tonight.  It will be posted as quickly as we see it!

April Fools Day, sometimes called All Fools Day, is a day of unknown origin. Yet, most of the western world knows this is a day set aside for good hearted pranks, hoaxes, gags, and giggles. It is a day that the gullible, well…watch out!

Pranks performed on April Fool’s Day range from the simple, (such as saying, “Your shoe’s untied!), to the elaborate. Setting a roommate’s alarm clock back an hour is a common gag. Whatever the prank, the trickster usually ends it by yelling to his victim, “April Fool!”

April Fool’s Day is a “for-fun-only” observance. Nobody is expected to buy gifts or to take their “significant other” out to eat in a fancy restaurant. Nobody gets off work or school. It’s simply a fun little holiday, but a holiday on which one must remain forever vigilant, for he may be the next April Fool!

There is actually a website that lists the top 100 April Fool’s Day Hoaxes. Here are two on the list that are really crazy.

HOAXES

The Left-Handed Whopper

1998: Burger King published a full page advertisement in USA Today announcing the introduction of a new item to their menu: a “Left-Handed Whopper” specially designed for the 32 million left-handed Americans. According to the advertisement, the new whopper included the same ingredients as the original Whopper (lettuce, tomato, hamburger patty, etc.), but all the condiments were rotated 180 degrees for the benefit of their left-handed customers. The following day Burger King issued a follow-up release revealing that although the Left-Handed Whopper was a hoax, thousands of customers had gone into restaurants to request the new sandwich. Simultaneously, according to the press release, “many others requested their own ‘right handed’ version.”

Big Ben Goes Digital (1980)

The British Broadcasting Corp. reported that Big Ben was going to be given a digital readout. It received a huge response from listeners protesting the change. The BBC Japanese service also announced that the clock hands would be sold to the first four listeners to contact them, and one Japanese seaman in the mid-Atlantic immediately radioed in a bid.

You Know What They Say About Fools…

  • It’s better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and leave no doubt. –Mark Twain
  • However big the fool, there is always a bigger fool to admire him. — Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux
  • The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly, is to fill the world with fools. — Herbert Spencer
  • Sometimes one likes foolish people for their folly, better than wise people for their wisdom. — Elizabeth Gaskell
  • Looking foolish does the spirit good. — John Updike
  • Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed. — Mark Twain
  • A fool sees not the same tree that a wise man sees. — William Blake
  • A fool must now and then be right by chance. — Cowper
  • It is better to be a fool than to be dead. — Stevenson
  • The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year. — Mark Twain

Since the word “FOOL” has been use a lot in this article, it is appropriate to have the correct music. I hope you enjoy the following video. There is NOTHING foolish about this! I listened to many of the videos and even though this video starts with joking, the vocals are amazing and get better with each phrase.

Today is April 1st, 2011.  Is Clay Aiken still in New York or is he in North Carolina, California or on some exotic vacation?  Is he playing pranks on his friends??  Of course we do not know where he is and that is fine.  However, I am sure he is with loved ones and having a fun day.  Somehow, pranks and Clay Aiken seem to go together.

April Fools Day, sometimes called All Fools Day, is a day of unknown origin. Yet, most of the western world knows this is a day set aside for good hearted pranks, hoaxes, gags, and giggles. It is a day that the gullible, well…watch out!

The month of March ended with some exciting news about Clay Aiken and The National Inclusion Project.

Through a post on the Internet, we learned that The National Inclusion Project was one of the first recipients of the 2011 Inclusion Champion Award from The Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation.

The following is posted at the website for MEAF:

The Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation announced the first recipients of the 2011 Inclusion Champion Award at the MEAF 20th Anniversary Luncheon in Washington, DC on March 11th. The Inclusion Champion Award (ICA) was established by MEAF to honor organizations and individuals who have made measurable and sustainable impact in promoting the inclusion of youth with disabilities.

In total, 20 awards will be presented throughout this 20th anniversary year to honor current and past grantees for their efforts to promote the full participation of young people with disabilities in society. Trophies and $20,000 in grants will be distributed to the following organizations –

National Inclusion Project
I am Norm
A youth-led national campaign to promote inclusion, I am Norm was born out of a partnership between the Including Samuel Project and numerous other MEAF grantees and partners. National Inclusion Project is coordinating this initiative designed to empower youth and help redefine ‘normal.’

Congratulations to The National Inclusion Project, the entire Board of Directors and Jerry Aiken, Kristy Barnes, Aron Hall and Debbie Cain….  Your dedicated work is making a difference in the world.

Young people are fortunate that there are companies like Mitsubishi Electric America.  Kevin R. Webb is the MEAF’s director.  He says about the awards:

“For 20 years, Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation has worked to identify partners with the most innovative ideas that promote the full inclusion of young people with disabilities. The focus of the our grant investments has been and will continue to be on developing sustainable, replicable models that make the most impact on the lives of youth, and help to build more inclusive communities.”

Did you know that Clay Aiken was in People Magazine this week?  On the cover is a beautiful picture of Elizabeth Taylor and the magazine has a tribute to this Hollywood Icon.  However, on page 151, there is a montage of pictures of some of the former American Idol contestants.  The page also shows some number facts about the Idol stars.  It was fun to see Clay right in the middle of the page.

Since the word “FOOL” was used a lot today, the following Video seems appropriate!

For those of you who have little ones at home, I found a cute “Hoax” recipe for kids.

Foolish Cupcakes

Cupcake Ingredients

Makes 12 cupcakes

1 pound lean ground beef or ground turkey

½ cup seasoned bread crumbs

1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, grated

3 Tablespoon ketchup

1 egg, beaten

½ teaspoon salt

Pepper to taste

Potato Frosting

3 cups mashed potatoes

Assorted food colorings

Directions
Heat the oven to 375 degrees. Line 12 muffin tin cups with foil bake cups.

1. In a large bowl, mix together all of the meat loaf ingredients until well combined. Divide the mixture evenly among the lined cups (the liners should be about three quarters full).

2. Place the filled muffin tins on cookie sheets and bake the cupcakes for about 15 minutes or until cooked through.

3. Divide the mashed potatoes among three small bowls and stir a few drops of food coloring into each batch to create blue, yellow, and pink pastel frostings. Spread a generous dollop on each cupcake.

Clay Aiken – Is He Celebrating April 1st?

Today is April 1. 2009!

Pratical Jokes

Practical Jokes

Unlike most of the other nonfoolish holidays, the history of April Fool’s Day, sometimes called All Fool’s Day, is not totally clear. There really wasn’t a “first April Fool’s Day” that can be pinpointed on the calendar. Some believe it sort of evolved simultaneously in several cultures at the same time, from celebrations involving the first day of spring.

There are people who keep a list of the Top 100 April Fool’s Day Hoaxes.  Some of them are well thought out.  What do you think?

#4: The Taco Liberty Bell

1996: The Taco Bell Corporation announced it had bought the Liberty Bell and was renaming it the Taco Liberty Bell. Hundreds of outraged citizens called the National Historic Park in Philadelphia where the bell was housed to express their anger. Their nerves were only calmed when Taco Bell revealed, a few hours later, that it was all a practical joke. The best line of the day came when White House press secretary Mike McCurry was asked about the sale. Thinking on his feet, he responded that the Lincoln Memorial had also been sold. It would now be known, he said, as the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial.

#2: Sidd Finch

1985: Sports Illustrated published a story about a new rookie pitcher who planned to play for the Mets. His name was Sidd Finch, and he could reportedly throw a baseball at 168 mph with pinpoint accuracy. This was 65 mph faster than the previous record. Surprisingly, Sidd Finch had never even played the game before. Instead, he had mastered the “art of the pitch” in a Tibetan monastery under the guidance of the “great poet-saint Lama Milaraspa.” Mets fans celebrated their teams’ amazing luck at having found such a gifted player, and Sports Illustrated was flooded with requests for more information. In reality this legendary player only existed in the imagination of the author of the article, George Plimpton.

#1: The Swiss Spaghetti Harvest

1957: The respected BBC news show Panorama announced that thanks to a very mild winter and the virtual elimination of the dreaded spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. It accompanied this announcement with footage of Swiss peasants pulling strands of spaghetti down from trees. Huge numbers of viewers were taken in. Many called the BBC wanting to know how they could grow their own spaghetti tree. To this the BBC diplomatically replied, “place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best.”

Practical jokes are a part of April 1st.  Personally, I think it’s a good day to stay safe at home!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
