Clay Aiken – The World of TV

Do you watch TV?

Do you spend a few hours most days enjoying drama, laughs, news, and sports? If your answer is yes, you are in the majority of people in the United States. Television is a huge industry that hires thousands of people. And, they all seem to know each other!

The Television Critics Association (TCA) is made up of people who are a part of the TV industry. The Television Critics Association is a non-profit organization of more than 200 professional, full-time TV writers and critics. These writers cover the television industry for newspapers, magazines and supported online sites.

The TCA holds two press tours each year…one in January and one in July. Journalists from all over the country gather to learn about some of the exciting programming the networks have planned for the upcoming season. The TCA says that each press tour generates about 40,000 stories during the two-week event. It is a special time that the critics have face-to-face contacts with network executives, producers and actors.

The January Press Tour is in full swing this week. It is being held at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, California. Each major network has an entire day to hold workshops, panel discussion, and the opportunity to talk to the cast and producers and directors of the highlighted shows.

This is Thursday so today the tour is featuring the NBC cable networks and selected shows. According to the website of The St. Louis Post-Dispatch…Tube Talk:

NBC cable shows that get time on Day 2 include “The Royals,” from E!, plus USA’s “Complications,” Bravo’s “Odd Mom Out,” Syfy’s “The Expanse” and “Wizard Wars,” Esquire’s “Candidate Clay” and Oxygen’s “Street Art Throwdown.” NBC Sports will hype Super Bowl XLIX, and CNBC will talk about “Restaurant Startup.”

Yes…”Candidate Clay” is about Clay Aiken. I find it exciting that it is the one show that Esquire Network chose to feature today. I think they are looking forward to presenting an excellent show. Esquire Network said about Candidate Clay:

Esquire Network will air an all-access look at one of the most unique political campaigns of this election year – the Congressional run of American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken. The yet-to-be titled, four-hour limited documentary series will premiere on Esquire Network in 1st Quarter 2015.

Academy Award-winner Simon Chinn (Man On Wire, Searching for Sugar Man) and Emmy Award-winner Jonathan Chinn (30 Days, American High) of Lightbox, have been filming from the inside of Clay Aiken’s campaign since his February candidacy announcement, through the shocking May primary and November 4th’s final results. Aiken, a gay Democrat and single dad, ran against incumbent Congresswoman Renee Ellmers in the predominantly Republican North Carolina 2nd District. Via strategy meetings, debate prep, town halls, bus tours and door-to-door canvassing, the docu-series provides an intimate look at the hope of victory and, ultimately, the disappointment of defeat.

So…today, this wonderful show is being introduced to the Professional Television Critics. There has been no leaked information as to the presentation of the show, but look for some publicity, pictures, and perhaps even an appearance by Clay. (I do not know if he will be there.) I will keep a lookout for any information or press that is put out about the show.

What an exciting time to be a fan of Clay Aiken!!!
