Clay Aiken – Hot Dog!

By musicfan123 · Comments 10507(8)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F06%2F18%2Fclay-aiken-hot-dog%2FClay+Aiken+-+Hot+Dog%212011-06-18+07%3A07%3A37musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10507

In the last eight years, Clay Aiken has been interviewed hundreds of times. He has been interviewed for magazines, been questioned by radio DJ’s and chatted with television hosts at all times of the day.

One of the most unique interviews that Clay participated in was the day he was questioned by a “Hot Dog.” It was October 17, 2003 and it was really Meredith Vieira who hosted The View and for some reason, was dressed as a Hot Dog.

Clay was on the promotional tour for Measure of A Man and he was hitting all the major talk shows on TV. He stopped by The View after performing on The Early Show at CBS.

Before a performance of Invisible, Clay talked with a couple of the ladies on the show. Meredith led an interesting interview. Clay looked relaxed until Meredith read a letter from a fan who wanted to know how Clay smelled. WHAT?? Yes, that’s what she wanted to know.

So, as Clay looked uncomfortable, Meredith obliged the fan and smelled Clay! Then, to make Clay feel even more embarrassed, a professional perfumer was called down to give a sniff too. Both reported that Clay smelled fresh and had a hint of a perfume smell which was good.

Why do TV panelists feel the need to do such silly things? I wonder how they would feel if it happened to them.

Fortunately, the rest of the interview was interesting and Clay chatted with the hosts and showed that he was relaxed and professional in his interview.

The stage setting for the performance was lovely and Clay sounded wonderful when he sang Invisible. All and all, it was a fun show and Clay probably still remembers that visit.

The following is a great video of the interview and performance. It is always fun to see Clay at the beginning of his successful career.

Clay Aiken – The 65th Annual Tony Awards

Monday, June 13th, 2011

I spent Sunday night watching The 65th Annual Tony Awards.  It was exciting seeing a snippet of the wonderful shows that are on Broadway right now.

I came away from this show with some interesting thoughts:

  • There is so much fabulous talent on Broadway.
  • I can’t wait to go back to Broadway and see some live Broadway shows.
  • So many times I said to myself, “Clay Aiken would really shine in this role.”
  • I am in awe that Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids works so hard for so many people.

When, during the broadcast, it was announced that the cast of Memphis was going to perform, I listened carefully.  When the show told of the over 1,000 students who had the opportunity to attend their first Broadway show, I got emotional.  And then I heard that BC/EFA was one of the sponsors for this exciting experience.  I was excited and proud that so many Clay Aiken fans support this amazing organization.

After the broadcast was over, I wanted to find out more about this interesting project.  I found the following article about the project.  Please read the following from The Kansas City Starlight Theater Blog.

World-renowned watchmaker Audemars Piguet partnered with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) and the Tony Awards, to host 1,100 New York City students at their very first Broadway show. Through “Inspire Change,” an initiative launched by the producers of Memphis, students from public schools and AIDS Service organizations throughout the 5 boroughs of Manhattan enjoyed this special performance of Memphis in addition to in-school workshops and a “talk-back” with the cast and producers of the show and representatives from the Tony Awards.

At the end of the performance, all 1,100 students surprised the cast by jumping to their feet to join in for the show’s finale, “Steal Your Rock and Roll.”   The students, who had been practicing both the lyrics and choreography for weeks, took to the aisles and stage to join the excited cast members for the song.
François-Henry Bennahmias, President & CEO of Audemars Piguet North America, says, “After two incredibly successful years partnering with the Tony Awards, this year we are excited to make a direct impact in our community.  Audemars Piguet is proud to offer 1,100 students their first Broadway experience, as part of our commitment to New York City’s theater community, the Tonys and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.  Music has touched my life and I hope that this special experience will foster a lifelong love of music among these students, too.”

“The cast flipped out when they saw the whole audience stand up and dance!”  says Sue Frost, producer of Memphis, “It was absolutely incredible, I wish it could happen every night!  We’re so grateful to Audemars Piguet, BC/EFA and the Tony Awards for joining Memphis in our effort to inspire change.”

“Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is grateful to Audemars Piguet and the Tony Awards for the opportunity to work with the producers of MEMPHIS and “Inspire Change” on such a special day for so many in underserved public schools and social service agencies across New York City,” said Tom Viola, BC/EFA’s executive director.  “The stories of personal courage in MEMPHIS reflect the challenges these kids face each day.   To see their lives portrayed on stage creates self-esteem that encourages young people to make healthy choices outside the classroom.”

“We would like to thank our partners, Audemars Piguet and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS for giving these amazing students such a spectacular opportunity, and for helping to create a moment of Broadway history,” said Charlotte St. Martin, executive director for The Broadway League & Howard Sherman, executive director of the American Theatre Wing – the two organizations who present the Tony Awards.

Audemars Piguet will continue their support of Broadway through their third annual sponsorship of the red carpet at the 65th Annual Tony Awards, which will be broadcast in a live three-hour ceremony from the Beacon Theatre in New York City, on the CBS television network on Sunday, June 12, 2011.

It is not surprising that Clay Aiken supports BC/EFA.  This organization raises millions every year to help all people…students or seniors…gay or straight…Thank you for all you do!

Did you watch The Tony’s on TV?  What did you think?

Clay Aiken Has A Mom Who Rocks!!

When Clay Aiken is taking his much-needed break I seem to spend time looking for fun Clay moments that I can share.  Today, I am sharing something that I almost completely forgot about.  Do you remember this??

May 6th, 2004

The Early Show did a week, celebrating Moms of famous singers.   On May 6th, the show honored Faye Parker. Faye looked lovely in a green sweater and talked proudly of Clay.  She shared lots of pictures and videos.  It was a great program.

CBS not only showed the interview on TV, but wrote about the show and interview on their website. They also left a great video of the event.  The following is from CBS as they wrote about the show.

A Mom Who Rocks!

Though the spotlight shines brightly on their superstar kids, hard at work behind the scenes are the superstar moms.

The Early Show correspondent Melinda Murphy reports on one of the newest on the scene — Clay Aiken. He and his mother are just getting used to his newfound fame.

Clay Aiken’s new song, “Proud of Your Boy,” is a part of the special edition DVD of “Aladdin,” which he says is a great way to show appreciation for moms. (That DVD will be not be available until Oct. 5.)

“It’s kind of a neat song because it talks a lot about Aladdin with his mother,” Aiken says. “So singing that is kind of neat for me because I think everybody wants to make their mother proud of them.”

And Clay Aiken has definitely done that.

“I am his number one fan, even if the fans say they’re number one,” Faye Parker, Aiken’s mother, says with a laugh. “I’m sorry. They have to get in line.”

Parker raised her son in Raleigh, N.C. His childhood home is now filled with proof of his success, such as his double-platinum album award for “Measure of the Man.”

The album has now gone triple-platinum, which Aiken says he couldn’t have done without his mom.

“My mother is my idol,” says Aiken. “She’s the person I’ve seen on a daily basis, who maneuver all that life brings you — whether it be good stuff or bad stuff.”

And there has been plenty of both. When Aiken was just a year old, Faye Parker left his abusive, alcoholic father. And for the next five years, she raised Aiken on her own before eventually getting remarried and having another son.

“One of the things she’s really taught me is to take every experience that you have, even the ones you just want to forget, and really learn from them,” says Aiken.

It is a lesson Parker continues to teach.

She says, “The main thing that I would like to say to women is that you are not there to be somebody’s stepping stone or to be somebody’s punching bag. You can get a life, and you can go on, and you don’t have to live like that.”

Parker is living proof of that. So is Aiken.

Just a few years ago, Aiken was practically invisible. But things have definitely changed.

Parker takes it upon herself to check phone calls and lots of mail. In fact, Aiken gets so much fan mail that his mother now has a special room for it above the garage.

Also, there are Aiken dolls, Aiken drawings and Aiken crafts.

Of course, not everybody is so supportive.

“He had a lot of publicity about, ‘Is Clay gay?’” says Parker. “You have to make up your mind if you’re going to get your feelings hurt. I know what’s true. God knows what’s true. And it doesn’t matter what other people think.”

Most seem to think Aiken is great, including his hometown’s museum.

The museum has clothing worn by Clay Aiken when he performed “I Can’t Help Myself.”

Parker notes, “I remember when he did that, there were some ladies at my house that night and he did that little motion — the sugar pie honey bunch. I thought these ladies were going to go crazy. I said, ‘Ladies, that’s my son. Cool it!’”

Aiken may be a sex symbol now, but he wasn’t always so cool.

“He comes in one day with a permanent. Oh, that was awful, terrible,” laughs Parker. “He wore that perm for two years, deliberately, because mom didn’t like it. A few people told him he looked cute. And I said, ‘Honey, your mother will tell you the truth.’”

“Mom always thinks she’s the most honest,” says Aiken. “She’ll tell me if my shoes are ugly or if a song is bad, which I don’t know that I like that much really.”

Before he was sheik, Aiken was a bit of a geek. And some even said he was a mama’s boy.

“He probably is a mama’s boy, but you know he’s not overly mama’s boy that people think strange things about,” laughs Parker.

But in the end, being a mama’s boy isn’t such a bad thing.

“She’s been my rock, she’s been the shoulder I’ve cried on,” says Aiken. “She’s been the most supportive person, the least supportive person in times when I needed somebody to tell me to straighten out. And I would not be here today if it were not for her in so many ways.”

What are some of the perks of having a famous son? Faye Parker says she bought herself a new car and paid off her house.

What a nice, positive write-up.  The Early Show has always been kind and supportive to Clay.

Clay Aiken – “It’s A Whirlwind Dream”

By musicfan123 · Comments 5496(26)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F07%2F14%2Fclay-aiken-its-a-whirlwind-dream%2FClay+Aiken+-+%22It%27s+A+Whirlwind+Dream%222009-07-14+07%3A15%3A16musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D5496
Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

On July 14, 2004, Clay Aiken was a guest on CBS for their Summer Concert Series which is part of the Early Show.  Clay’s performance was originally scheduled for  July 7th, but had to be re-scheduled.  Clay was doing the rounds of the talk shows in preparation of his “Not-A-Tour” that started in July.

The studio was crowded and there were more fans there than could make it in to see the concert.  Hosted by Rene Syler, the interview before the concert was animated and interesting.  Much of the conversation was about the impact of Clay’s success on his life.

“It’s like a whirlwind dream,” Clay told Rene.  “It’s fun, you know.  Every day’s different.  Every day’s new and I’m excited all the time.”

Rene asked Clay about his biggest fan and he said it was his mother.  Clay said of his mother:

“I think she always thought I’d do this, more so than I did.  I think she dreamed this for me before I did.  She would probably say that she knew this all along.  So it’s just, for her, I think it’s just what she always expected.  For me, it’s great to have her be able to be a part of it and to make her proud.”

Clay revealed in the interview that he was busy recording a holiday-themed CD that was to be released the following holiday season.  He also was also a spokesperson and reader for Stories for Heros, a series of classic children’s stories on CD.  A majority of the proceeds from the sale of the audiobook benefited The Bubel/Aiken Foundation.

For the mini-concert, Clay sang “I Will Carry You”, “Invisible” and “The Way.”  The audience was excited and supportive and the entire program was a great success.

There are 4 videos below that show most of the concert and interview.  I hope that Clay performs on this show again!!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
