Clay Aiken – Tonight’s The Night

Today is the day!  Today we find out who will be named the new Celebrity Apprentice.  I don’t know about you, but I am so excited and happy that Clay Aiken is a finalist and has a great chance to win.  Clay deserves to win and I refuse to think any other way.

Luckily I will be at the show tonight, ready to cheer Clay and enjoy seeing the confetti moment in person.  And,of course, I will report what I can about what we saw at the taping.

I read an interesting article at the HuffPost – Gay Voices.  Written by Michelangelo Signorile, the articles discusses Clay’s involvement with Celebrity Apprentice, North Carolina’s Amendment One and many more topics.

Signorile says:

A few days before his face-off with Arsenio Hall on the finale of Donald Trump’s “The Celebrity Apprentice” (Sunday night on NBC), Clay Aiken was confident and comfortable.

“I hope I’ll win,” said the openly gay singer and actor who shot to stardom as a contestant and first runner up on “American Idol” almost ten years ago. “We have different styles. [Arsenio Hall is] a little more laid back. I’m a little more hands-on. I think the effects of my efforts were superior. I think we’ll see on Sunday when Mr. Trump makes his decision.”

When talking about Clay’s role as a gay activist, Signorile says:

Aiken also weighed in on his new-found role as a gay activist, taking on North Carolina’s antigay Amendment One and appearing on CBS’ “Face the Nation” opposite the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins last week, an experience he laughingly still can’t believe happened.

“Wasn’t that crazy?” he asked, beaming with a smile, in an interview on my SiriusXM radio program. “So it did happen, you’re saying? Because I was thinking it was all a dream.”

The article also discusses Clay’s decisions about coming out to the public and his sense of responsibility to support young people.  Clay said:

“Making sure that people don’t have the same type of struggle that I did. I’ve realized now if I can be a a part of making it easier for a kid to be able to be comfortable with himself, then I have a responsibility to do it.”

Be sure and read the entire article.  It is very interesting.  You can read it at  HUFF

The following are some screen-caps from the Wendy Williams Show.  Thank you to the ladies at CV and CB for providing them.

Clay Aiken – Emerging Spokesman for Gay Marriage

In the next 20 years, we’re going to look back on this and be ashamed that we were against it…like interracial marriage says @clayaiken

From Face The Nation – On-line

Singer and gay rights activist Clay Aiken disagreed with Perkins, pointing to the recent Gallup polling showing that 60 percent of Americans said Mr. Obama’s support for same-sex marriage won’t impact whether or not they support him.

“I think the people who say it will matter on either side of the equation, probably were not going to vote for Obama or were going to vote for President Obama anyway,” he said. He added that gay men and women are going to be more energized to support the president now.

While voters in Aiken’s home state of North Carolina recently passed a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage and domestic partnerships, Aiken said voters in that key state “will support the fact that President Obama did speak out on principle… I think that we’d like to see politicians speak out on principle a little bit more and not just make a political calculation.”

Will you be watching the show on Sunday morning?

Clay Aiken – American Idol Suffers Rating Problems

By musicfan123 · Comments 14330(18)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2012%2F01%2F30%2Fclay-aiken-american-idol-suffers-rating-problems%2FClay+Aiken+-+American+Idol+Suffers+Rating+Problems2012-01-30+08%3A17%3A57musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D14330
Monday, January 30th, 2012

American Idol, the mega-hit music competition, began Season 11 this month.  According to Nielsen numbers, the show may be in real trouble.  There was a 17% drop in the ratings for the premiere.  It was the series’ lowest opening since its first season in the summer of 2002.

If one looks at the numbers closely, the figures are even worse.  Among young adults, ages 18 to 49, the number of viewer dropped 26%. The young adult viewers are the group that Fox and the advertisers care about the most.

The numbers were even worse the second week of the season. The show was down 13.5% from the premiere and 30% from an equivalent show last season.

It might be a bit too soon to predict real trouble, but American Idol was knocked off as the time leader on both Thursdays by the CBS sitcom, The Big Bang Theory.

So…what is wrong with American Idol?  Can this problem be fixed…or is it too late?

The writer, Charlie Toft, felt that there were very clear reasons why Idol is in decline.  He suggested the following problems.

Age. Simply put, Idol is in its eleventh season. Very few series make it to that length, and it’s rare to find any that still have significant ratings momentum after a decade… Even the best contestants and the most heartbreaking personal stories can’t help but remind viewers of those who have come before.

The Glut of Music Competition Shows:  TV now has The X Factor, The Voice, and the music-dominated America’s Got Talent in the summer. The competition makes the level of anticipation rather low.

Other Networks aren’t Afraid Anymore: The fact that CBS moved its most prominent younger show to Thursdays at the same time as Idol, is proof that the fear factor is gone.

There’s no drama behind the scenes to attract viewers. This is the first time since Seasons 6 and 7 that Idol has had consecutive seasons with the same lineup of judges. There was particular curiosity going into last season, the first without Cowell. This season, there’s no need to see how things have changed with the new judges.

Idol isn’t keeping up with broader trends in music. The original Idol formula was simple enough: stand there and sing. The show has expanded to include singer-songwriter types and those who play musical instruments. According to Toft:

“Idol has not yet found a way to channel the dominant sound of today’s pop charts, with its guest rappers, use of Autotune, and its emphasis on producers, dance, and electronics.”

Too many recent winners have not become stars.  It’s gotten harder for viewers to buy that there’s anything major at stake in an Idol title.  I am sure most readers could name many winners and runner-ups that just don’t seem like winners.

The Nicey-Nice Judging panel makes for a more boring show. According to Toft:

“Some liked Simon Cowell and some hated him, but people definitely paid attention. When he issued a compliment, it had weight because they were so rarely doled out. But the problem with the lack of Simon goes beyond no one wanting to be mean – it’s more than there’s no nuance at all. Mediocre singers and the very best are treated equally. The current panel agrees on almost everything – either three yes votes or three no votes. Serious differences of opinion, or even the sense that someone is being advanced with great misgivings, are almost unheard of now. As The Voice has discovered, a panel where the judges have both credibility and differing sensibilities can be entertainment in itself.”

To be completely up-front, I haven’t watched American Idol for many years.  I loved it when it was a show that looked for the best talent and didn’t allow professionals to be contestants.  And, I will always be thankful for Season II that introduced Clay Aiken to the world.  I am sure that many of you still watch and so I would love to hear from you.

Do you think that Mr. Toft was correct in his list of problems or do you have other ideas about the decline in viewers?

Clay Aiken – Still In Awe!

By musicfan123 · Comments 13958(10)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2012%2F01%2F07%2Fclay-aiken-still-in-awe%2FClay+Aiken+-+Still+In+Awe%212012-01-07+09%3A00%3A47musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D13958
Saturday, January 7th, 2012

It was another amazing day for Clay Aiken and his fans.  I am still in awe of the amount of PR that has surrounded Clay Aiken and Celebrity Apprentice.  For the third day in a row, Clay has had hundreds of mentions on Google.  I just checked Google and they list 107,000 articles about Clay on Celebrity Apprentice.  YIKES!!!

I really enjoyed reading the article on Mashable Entertainment.   Brian Anthony Hernandez wrote an interesting article about Celebrity Apprentice and the use of social networking.  The following is a clip of what he had to say:

Trump and NBC producers likely monitor each contestant’s online sentiment — so fan comments on social sites and message boards also could sway who Trump fires when the season begins Feb. 12. Producers might want to keep contestants that incite significant online buzz, which may translate to better TV ratings.

NBC revealed the cast Wednesday, but searches for Celebrity Apprentice topics are trending high Thursday on Google.  Singer Clay Aiken, who finished second on American Idol‘s season two in 2003, was the fifth hottest-searched topic on Google on Thursday, with Celebrity Apprentice at number 15. Whether that means Aiken is an early fan favorite is yet to be seen. Google searchers could just be looking up who Aiken is.

So…I think we all need to be on top of the social media bandwagon.  Twitter and Facebook are an important part of our support of Clay.

Please read Brian’s entire article at MASHABLE.

I clicked on Gather (anything Hollywood) and I was ready to get mad.  The article by Henrietta Tan was titled:  What Happened To You, CLAY AIKEN?  As I read, I calmed down.  I can almost forgive her headline after reading this comment:

Maybe he’s put on weight, maybe he’s had a little surgical help…but as far as looking good is concerned, we really like how Clay’s “evolved…

Please visit the Gather article to read the entire article.  GATHER

CBS News ran an article titled: Clay Aiken’s National Inclusion Project to benefit from his “celebrity Apprentice” appearance.  Now this is the important message of the entire 3 days!

(CBS) “American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken will be competing in the coming season of “Celebrity Apprentice” to raise money for his National Inclusion Project, a charity he started to help kids with disabilities be mainstreamed in programs for children….Aiken’s foundation recently benefited from a Champions Gala that raised more than $500,000 from the 500 people who attended the event in downtown Raleigh.

Please visit this site.  We need to make sure they get lots of “props” for writing on the important part of the story!!  CBS

Just one more bit of news… Be sure and visit the updated FaceBook page for Clay Aiken.  It’s a music page and you can play Clay’s music right off the site.  I hope we can give the site lots of hits and plays, especially for Bring Back My Love.  CLAYS FACEBOOK

On a personal note…thanks to so many of you who contacted me personally or with comments about yesterdays post.  Clay Aiken fans are best in the world!!  I am fine.  I am excited and I refuse to let the negative people get me down.  Taking a few hours away from the crazy people certainly helps.  Many times when a person initiates a negative message or difficult attitude, they are trying to trigger a response from you. When we react, we are actually giving them what they want. Let’s stop the cycle of negative snowballing and sell them short on what they’re looking for; don’t bother responding.

I will end this post with a great picture…I am glad Clay has released this wonderful photo.

Clay Aiken – His Name Is Everywhere!

By musicfan123 · Comments 10991(7)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F07%2F21%2Fclay-aiken-his-name-is-everywhere%2FClay+Aiken+-+His+Name+Is+Everywhere%212011-07-21+08%3A22%3A56musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10991

What a great time to be a fan of Clay Aiken.  His name is everywhere!  Clay certainly creates more buzz than most other celebrities, including all the  past idols.

It is always fun to find out more about the people that respect Clay and his talent.  After having the opportunity to listen to Josh Berman at the Outfest on Sunday, I wanted to find out more about him.  Josh is the Executive Producer, Creator and writer for Drop Dead Diva.

Josh Berman began his writing career on the first season of the hit CBS drama series “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.” He remained with the series for six seasons, and exited as an executive producer. While working on “CSI,” Berman earned two Emmy nominations.

Berman also spent four seasons as a writer and consulting producer on the Fox series “Bones,” and created, executive produced and wrote for the Fox drama series “Vanished” and “Killer Instinct.”

Berman was formerly a creative executive at NBC Studios. He has graduate degrees in law and business from Stanford University and was a Fulbright Scholar to Australia, where he earned a master’s in history at the University of Sydney. In 2005, Television Week named Berman as one of the top 10 people under 35 to watch in the industry, for their annual “Hot List.”

There is a wonderful new interview with Josh about the up-coming episode of Drop Dead Diva.  The following is only a short snippet of the interview.

One of the things I like about this season is that you have these guest stars who are playing against types. You had LeAnn Rimes in the season premiere and Clay Aiken in this episode playing characters they’ve never had the chance to play before.

Absolutely and we talk to the actors beforehand and we really want to write them a role they can just sink their teeth into and have fun with. Clay Aiken, I just got on the phone with him and I said I really want you in this episode, here’s a character I’m considering, and we kind of crafted his character together. Through the process we actually have become friends. He’s actually flying to LA for the Outfest panel for the episode on Sunday. It’s amazing. You have a show like this that’s very empowering to women, empowering to humanity, it gets people excited. And that’s a unique experience for me.

To read the entire interview, click HERE.

On Wednesday, an interesting Tweet caught my eye.

QUOTE:

Tomorrow we will be talking to #DropDeadDiva guest star @clayaiken! If you have any questions for him please be sure to tweet them to us!
1 hour ago via Twidroyd for Android

A few hours later, the following was tweeted:

Clay Aiken fans thank you for all of
the questions! We will ask as many of your questions as we can, but we won’t be
able to ask them all.
Great that Clay fans were able to submit questions.  Maybe we won’t have to read any questions about American Idol and why Clay doesn’t watch it anymore.
I will be watching for the interview and will post it as soon as I find it.

Brown combines strict attention to detail and innovative technique to capture images that uniquely fuse traditional and modern elements. His personal drive and individual style result in the quality of work you see, which showcases Curtis Brown Photography’s recent work in the realms of fashion and lifestyle.

So……..what is this photoshoot for?  What do you think?  Is it publicity pictures for the Gala, or was it for personal use only, maybe for new pictures at the OFC…..or could it be for a new project?  What is your opinion?

Clay Aiken – He Was Chatty and Special!

Happy Tuesday to All!!

Monday was an exciting day, but very long for me.  After the taping of the 2  The Talk Shows, my husband and I drove over 400 miles to get home as soon as possible.  Too bad no-one warned us that the construction on the I-5 required the highway to be one lane for a few miles….. twice!!

However, every  mile was worth it!!  The two days in LA were wonderful!!

Both days were entirely different and I got to see Clay in two different ways.  At the Outfest appearance, Clay seemed so relaxed.  It was great to see the respect and friendship from the entire panel.  They were all having a good time and proud of what they are doing.  Clay was just part of the group and they obviously respected his talent and included him as part of the family.

At The Talk, we saw Clay in a different way.  He was a wonderful guest.  He was chatty and made a point of saying something special to each of the ladies.  However, this was “I’m on TV” Clay!!  That feeling of relaxation was not there…and that certainly makes sense.  Perhaps I would never have picked up on it if I hadn’t seen him two days in a row.

During the commercial breaks, Clay stayed seated and talked quietly to each of the ladies and they all seemed to enjoy having Clay as a guest.

If I had to guess I would bet that the audience for The Talk was about 1/2 Clay fans.  We were scattered throughout the studio.   Most of the fans were supportive, but not trying to be the center of attention!!  We just enjoyed Clay and supported him!  Unfortunately, my husband and I were seated in the first row of the upper level, right behind the camera men and the cue card man.  On most days, this would be interesting, but I could not see as much as you all did on TV.  The only time I could see Clay was when he entered and left.  I looked at the tiny screen on the camera and could almost see what was happening!!

The second show had Craig Ferguson as the main guest and will be shown on August 1st.  The Talk was very organized and the staff was very nice.  It is a very professionally run show.  That being said, I probably will not watch it again unless Clay is on.  The ladies were pleasant, but it is not my “cup of tea.”

One of the most rewarding aspects of the experience was having the opportunity to meet and chat with so many wonderful Clay fans.  We had an hour break between the shows so I was able to talk to many of the  fans.   Each fan was a gem and each one unique in their own way. .. but how wonderful to see that Clay is loved by so many!

Of course, there was lots of talk about what Clay said on the show.  Each one had their own opinion of what Clay meant.  But, because we could talk to each other, the opinion that I got from the fans was very positive and full of excitement.

I want to end with a big thank you to all the wonderful people I had a chance to chat with over the last few days.  There is just something special about Clay Aiken fans.  Their hearts are full and they make others feel so good!!  I have made true friends !!

PS:  Tomorrow we will be back to our regular schedule.  Thanks to all of you for letting me share my exciting Clay adventure with you!!

Clay Aiken – Is It true?

As always, believe nothing until you read it here.

~ Clay Aiken on 1/25/10 at the OFC.

The above quote is part of the CANN belief.  We try very hard to stick to the facts and have more than one source before we post news.  This is the reason we did not report on the up-coming appearance of Clay Aiken on the TV show, The Talk.

But…on Thursday, we got our confirmation.  I received a call from The Talk to let me know that I had two tickets for the taping of the show on Monday, July 18th.  I finally was able to ask who the guest was on that show and was told it was Clay Aiken.  Trying to be calm, I said something silly like… “Cool.”

Combine these great tickets with the two tickets I have for the Outfest showing of Drop Dead Diva and I have a great weekend in my future.  Cameras are not allowed at either appearance, but, hopefully, I can take copious notes!!

I have never seen The Talk.  I thought I had better find out more about the show.

The Talk premiered on October 18, 2010 on CBS.  Created by actress Sara Gilbert, the show features Julie Chen as the moderator. The other members of the panel are Leah Remimi, Holly Robinson Peete, Sara Gilbert,  and Sharon Osbourne.

The hook of the show, it seems, is that these women are all moms. It’s a mom’s perspective!  The show also contains celebrity interviews and segments for mothers and parents.

The show is now in its second season.

Do any of you watch The Talk?  Do you feel that Clay will be comfortable on the show?  Will the ladies get some interesting news from Clay?

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
