Today is December 28th…there are only four days left in 2013. Since I am interested in news relating to Clay Aiken, I thought it would be interesting to choose some special moments from 2013 for Clay Aiken and his fans.
Looking back over the year, it has been fun to review all the different events Clay chose to be involved in. Some of you will wonder why I left out one of their special moments. Hold on to these ideas and please, share them with us.
So…for the next four days I’ll be posting my favorite Clay Aiken events for 2013. As always, your comments are appreciated.
January 19th, 2013 – T Cooper – Book Reading
On Saturday, January 19th, Clay Aiken participated in an evening book reading and discussion at the Malaprop Bookstore/Café in Asheville, North Carolina. The event was announced on both Facebook and Twitter and many of the people in attendance sent tweets about the evening.
The author who was featured at this event is T Cooper who just wrote his new book titled Real Man Adventures and is published by McSweeney’s. According to the website, Mountain Xpress:
“Real Man Adventures is Cooper’s brash, wildly inventive, and often comic exploration of the paradoxes and pleasures of masculinity. He takes us through his transition into identifying as male, and how he went on to marry his wife and become an adoring stepfather of two children. Alternately bemused and exasperated when he feels compelled to explain all this, Cooper never loses his sense of humor.”
Clay participated with the author in reading portions of the book. He and Cooper read three question and answer sections about some serious, but amusing stories. Towards the end, Clay sang Both Sides Now, accompanied by pianist, Brian Turner.
January 24, 2013 – Siren Sounder at Carolina Hurricanes Ice Hockey Game
On Thursday, January 24th, Clay Aiken attended the Carolina Hurricanes Ice Hockey Game. It was a good night at the PNC Arena (former RBC Center) as the Hurricanes out scored the Buffalo Sabres 6 -3.
Clay did not just watch the game; he was the Siren Sounder at the beginning of the game. I checked out the website for the Hurricanes. They said:
The Carolina Hurricanes Warning Siren debuted on Oct. 10, 2008, at the Hurricanes’ 2008-2009 home opener against the Florida Panthers. It began a new Canes tradition where, prior to the start of each game, a celebrity, corporate sponsor, season ticket holder, suite client or fan acts as the official “Siren Sounder” of the game and operates the “Hurricanes Warning Siren” to signify that the team is about to take the ice.
The Hurricanes Warning Siren is an actual air-raid siren and is located at section 228, directly below the “Home of the Carolina Hurricanes” sign that adorns the upper-bowl façade
Past siren sounders include Super Bowl champion Bill Cowher, wrestling great Ric Flair, Miracle on Ice member and 1980 Gold Medalist Jim Craig, NFL players including Carolina Panther Steve Smith, former Hurricanes players such as Bates Battaglia, N.C. State coaches Sidney Lowe and Kellie Harper, a variety of Olympians including Cullen Jones, Senator Elizabeth Dole, Ryan Newman and fellow NASCAR drivers and more.
It was fun that Clay got to have an extra bit of fun that night. There certainly were lots of tweets about his appearance at the game.
January 28, 2013 – 10th Anniversary Video Thank you
Clay Aiken said “Thank You!” to his fans on the tenth anniversary of his first appearance on American Idol, January 28, 2003!
It was a wonderful surprise to see Clay on the Home Page at the OFC with a THANK YOU message…followed by a casual performance of “Always and Forever”!!!! It was so touching it brought tears to the eyes of many fans!
The thank you and video was picked up by many of the entertainment sites. The popular site, Rickey.org even put a YouTube of the thank you on his site.
Do you remember these events? They all were small events, but I do remember the excitement of hearing and seeing Clay do some things just for fun!
Tomorrow, we will remember some of the bigger events from the year!
I hope you will be back!
