Clay Aiken – Meet Jack Johnson

Who is Jack Johnson and why is his name here, on a Clay Aiken board?

The answer to this can be found at Amazon.  It seems that Jack Johnson has a new album in the works that will be released on June 1st.  Do you know anyone else that has an album coming out that day?

When looking at the numbers at Amazon for pre-ordered albums, Jack Johnson is in the top position for June 1st.  Of course, Amazon is only one of many sites that promote pre-ordered CD’s.  It is not the entire picture, but it is somewhat interesting to see the numbers.  I have read a lot of posts on different Clay Aiken boards asking, “Who Is Jack Johnson?”

Jack Johnson (born May 18, 1975) is a Hawaii-born musician, accomplished professional surfer and filmmaker who has achieved commercial success and a dedicated following since he first appeared on the album Philadelphonic by G. Love & Special Sauce. The release of his 2001 debut album, Brushfire Fairytales further cemented his popularity.

Jack learned to play the guitar at age 14, but was a professional surfer until an accident at Pipeline in which his front teeth were knocked out and he received more than 150 stitches.  While he was recovering in bed, he spent his time writing songs and playing guitar. However, Jack didn’t seriously pursue a career in the arts until his college years at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Jack Johnson also played rhythm guitar for the party band “Soil”, and graduated with a degree in film.

He has written, recorded, and released the albums in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, and 2009. His 2008 album reached the top 10 of the U.S. charts.  For many, Jack is known for the 2006 album Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies For The Film Curious George.

On 1 February 2010, Johnson’s official website announced that his fifth studio album was in the recording process at the Mango Tree Studio, with a planned worldwide release date of June 1st, 2010. The website also announced an accompanying European tour to coincide with the album’s release.

Johnson has turned his mellow vibes into big business. A recent Billboard profile of the artist notes that he has totaled more than 9.4 million album sales since 2001, according to data from Nielsen SoundScan. He’s also become a touring powerhouse. His 28-stop 2008 summer tour brought in revenue of $22.1 million, according to Billboard Boxscore.

With only 16 days until June 1st, Clay Aiken fans are interested in the entire picture of the release.  They want all the news and hope to see Clay out and about, letting the world know about his album.  Of course, most of Clay’s fans are hoping to see a good opening week for Tried and True.  So, Jack Johnson, Clay just might surprise you!!
