Clay Aiken – Top Holiday Music

By musicfan123 · Comments 10126(6)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F12%2F16%2Fclay-aiken-top-holiday-music%2FClay+Aiken+-+Top+Holiday+Music2010-12-16+08%3A30%3A37musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10126

Soundscan is the official method of tracking sales of music and music video products throughout the United States and Canada. The data is collected weekly and is made available every Wednesday to subscribers, which include executives from all the different sections of the music, film and TV fields. SoundScan has been the sales source for the Billboard music charts since 1991.

On Wednesday, December 15, 2010, Billboard published their 100 Hot Lists.  Because of the holiday season, many holiday albums are a part of their list.  The following Holiday albums were all a part of the Top 50 albums by sales for the last week.

  1. Susan Boyle – The Gift
  2. Glee Cast – Christmas Album
  3. Jackie Evancho – O Holy Night
  4. Andrea Bocelli – My Christmas
  5. Mariah Carey – Merry Christmas II You
  6. Josh Groban – Noel
  7. Vince Guaraldi – Charlie Brown Christmas
  8. Now That’s What I Call Christmas V. 4 – Various Artists
  9. Annie Lennox – Christmas Cornucopia
  10. Chris Tomlin – Glory in the Highest: Christmas
  11. Lady Antebellum – Merry Little Christmas
  12. Michael Buble – Let It Snow
  13. Taylor Swift – Holiday Collection

When you look at the list, you can see that it is a combination of new albums and albums that have become classics.  I am sure that each one of the albums is very nice, but it certainly isn’t MY list of favorite Holiday Albums.  My list would be:

  1. Merry Christmas With Love – Clay Aiken (Surprise!!)
  2. All Is Well – Clay Aiken (I wish more people could hear these fabulous songs)
  3. It’s A Wonderful Christmas – Michael W. Smith (I can imagine Clay dueting on Christmas Day.)
  4. Let It Snow – Chanticleer – New Yorker Magazine calls Chanticleer “the world’s reigning male chorus.”  The 12 male voices range from countertenors to bass.  It’s different, but really amazing.
  5. Christmas Carol – James Galway – This 1986 album is more instrumental than vocal.  Because Galway is a flautist, the arrangements are a bit different than you find in other albums.

What about you?  Besides Clay’s fabulous Christmas music, do you have a favorite album or recording?  If so, why not let us know.  We don’t need Billboard – we can put together are own Top list!!

Did you see the great music player that Team Clay put on Twitter today?  What a fun way to hear Clay sing O Holy Night!

O Holy Night

By musicfan123 · Comments 10113(8)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F12%2F07%2Fclay-aiken-christmas-and-radio-play%2FClay+Aiken%2C+Christmas+and+Radio+Play%212010-12-07+08%3A11%3A10musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10113

Clay Aiken – Radio Play…these two entities are seldom mentioned in the same sentence. This is something I will never understand.

Although the Internet (52%) has surpassed radio (32%) as the first place to turn when seeking out new music, radio is still very popular with 12 to 24 year olds. In the latest study by Edison Research, 92% of the respondents said that they listen to AM/FM radio.

The holiday season changes everything on the radio. Fortunately, radio seems to embrace Clay’s wonderful voice and agrees with Clay fans that feel that no one can sing Christmas music better than Clay Aiken.

On Monday, Brian Mansfield who writes the Idol Chatter blog for USA Today reported on radio spins for American Idols.  The following are the spins for Clay.  The first number is his place on the list this week and the second number is last week’s placement.

For the entire list, visit:     USA Today

8 11 Clay Aiken, O Holy Night (1743)

47 51 Clay Aiken, The First Noel (353)

48 57 Clay Aiken, Mary, Did You Know (341)

50 54 Clay Aiken feat. Kimberley Locke, Silver Bells (331)

73 74 Clay Aiken, Winter Wonderland (123

80 NA Clay Aiken, Hark The Herald/O Come All.. (98)

Congratulations, Clay…. it is so much fun to hear you on the radio!

The National Inclusion Project is the Christie Cookie’s Charity of the Month.  Titled, Chippin’ in for Kids, Christie’s Cookies will donate 20% of the merchandise price to the Project.

The cookie assortment includes Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Macadamia Nut.  It already sounds good.  What sold me was the beautiful cookie tin with the National Inclusion Project’s emblem on the cover.  This beautiful tin will stay on my desk and hopefully it will be something that people will see and ask me about!!  This is a great way to raise some income for the Project and get some great publicity too.

For more information or to order some cookies, visit Chippin’ in for Kids.

Don’t forget to add your Christmas song choices in Monday’s blog.  There are some great suggestions already, but it will be more fun to get more suggestions!!

It is always fun to be a Clay Aiken fan, but some weeks are more fun than others.  So far, this week has provided a lot of positive information about Clay and that makes it fun for Clay’s supporters and fans.

Mediabase is the leading radio monitoring service with broadcast companies in the US. Mediabase also serves virtually every significant recording company and associated entertainment industries. According to their web site, Mediabase electronically monitors more than 1,700 radio stations in the top 150 U.S. metro markets, 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.

Mediabase features real-time charts in 25 radio formats, based on radio airplay. In addition, it provides dozens of analytical tools to chart the information they receive. Mediabase also owns and operates ratethemusic.com, a service that allows consumers to rate music for the radio and record industries.

On Monday, Mediabase published the list of last week’s most played American Idol acts.  It is so great to see Clay near the top of the list.  I guess the radio stations know that Clay Aiken owns Christmas Music!!  And, Clay had 1,580 spins for O Holy Night.

Don’t you think the radio would finally figure out they should play Clay all year.  I might even start listening to the radio again.

On Tuesday, many celebrity sites announced that it was Clay’s birthday.  One of the nice articles was on The Hollywood Gossip site.

He’s an American Idol finalist, a father, a former Broadway star and, now, a 32-year old man.

Indeed, Clay Aiken celebrates a birthday today, as Claymates around the world are likely sending their favorite artist a slew of best wishes as we type this. We encourage readers to do the same.

After all, we’re talking about one of the most humble, charitable artists around, one who spent the summer promoting the release of his fifth studio album and touring with Ruben Studdard. Aiken seems like a very nice guy and we hope he’s having a terrific day!

Please visit the site and leave a positive comment about Clay!!

The Hollywood Gossip

On the Official American Idol Website, there was a great article about Clay.  American Idol has had little to say about Clay in the past few years so this positive article was a big surprise.  The article starts with:

Happy Birthday, Clay Aiken!

One of American Idol’s most popular finalists, Clay Aiken, turns 32 today. Although it’s been eight seasons since Clay was introduced to Idol watchers around the world, he’s still as busy as ever!

Please click HERE and read the entire article.  It is important to leave a positive comment there.  It is important that American Idol knows that Clay has many active fans!

I am still hoping for a miracle and that when the official announcement is made at the Pepsi Refresh site, we might see The National Inclusion Project in the money!  If not, we still have December!

Yes……..being a fan of Clay Aiken is never boring and each day is a day to remember!  What will we learn tomorrow?

Clay Aiken – No One Sings Carols Better!

By musicfan123 · Comments 7226(14)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F12%2F01%2Fclay-aiken-no-one-sings-carols-better%2FClay+Aiken+-+No+One+Sings+Carols+Better%212009-12-01+08%3A00%3A24musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D7226

No one sings Christmas Carols better than Clay Aiken.  Somehow, his voice just soars when he sings the beautiful songs of the season. His album, “Merry Christmas With Love set a record for 1st week sales of a holiday album with sales of 270,010.  When Clay released his Holiday EP, “All Is Well” in 2006, he added four more beautiful songs to his library of recorded Christmas Carols.

Clay included one of the most loved traditional Christmas Carols, “O, Holy Night,” on his album. This carol has been named one of the most beautiful of all Christmas Carols, with excellent lyrics and a beautiful melody.

The author of the lyrics was Placide Cappeau who lived in the historic city of Avignon. He was a commissionaire of wines, and an occasional writer of poetry. The local parish priest asked Cappeau to write a Christmas poem.

On a trip to Paris, Cappeau took the poem to the composer Adolphe Adam.  Adam was the composer of over 80 stage works. Adam wrote the tune in a few days, and the song received its premier at the midnight mass on Christmas Eve 1847.

There is some interesting trivia associated with this song: in 1906, Canadian inventor Reginald Fessenden made what many consider to be the first ever radio broadcast in Brant Rock, Massachusetts. His brief broadcast included him playing “O Holy Night” on the violin, making it the first song ever broadcast on radio.

“O, Holy Night”

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining;
This is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, oh night when Christ was born;
O night, oh holy night, oh night divine.

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, oh night when Christ was born;
O night, oh holy night, oh night divine.

No one sings this beautiful carol better than Clay Aiken!!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
