Clay Aiken Takes On Houston

HoustonPBS was America’s first public television station and was one of the founding stations of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in 1969.  According to their website:

HoustonPBS serves to empower, engage and enrich the lives of the people of Southeast Texas. To that end, HoustonPBS provides a varied schedule made up of national Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) programming; award winning locally produced programming; college courses; and select acquired programs. Beyond broadcast, our facility is also a site for town hall meetings, national videoconference broadcasts, and a variety of innovative community educational and outreach programs.

On Wednesday night, Tried & True: Live! was the featured program in the Pledge Drive at HoustonPBS.  And, just to make the evening more successful, Clay Aiken was in the studio to chat with the host and put a personal touch to the broadcast.

The studio was filled with volunteers that helped the station by answering phones and taking pledges.  Most of the volunteers were fans of Clay Aiken.  It was wonderful to read their reports of the exciting evening.

According to reports, Clay looked great and was dressed in a brown shirt, tie, jeans and converse shoes.  He was still wearing the spikes in his hair.

Another fan reported that Clay joked and teased with the PBS staff, including the volunteers.  He seemed relaxed and by his actions, seemed to be enjoying himself.  One fan said that there is no doubt that Clay appreciates his fans.

Clay mentioned at the beginning of the evening that his back was bothering him and it was more comfortable to stand than sit on the high stools.  At one point in the evening, he ended up lying on his back on the floor between the pledge breaks.  However, everyone said he was up and completely “on” during the pledge breaks.

A few times, Clay actually talked to some of the people calling in….he even took a call using his “Spamalot” accent.  He also joked that for the right pledge he would sing at your wedding!

At the end of the evening, Clay signed CD covers and took many pictures with the staff and volunteers.  One of the staff said she would send the pictures to the volunteers.

According to the staff, the pledge evening was very successful.  The station seemed pleased with the entire event.  There were 15 Meet and Greets available and they were sold out immediately.

Congratulations to PBSHouston and Clay Aiken.  It sounds like it was a winning event for everyone.

Juggling…verb:  to manage or alternate the requirements of (two or more tasks, responsibilities, activities, etc.) so as to handle each adequately:  juggling the obligations of job and school.

Clay Aiken seems to to be skilled in the act of juggling. He has so many tasks at this time it is amazing that he can keep them all under control.

One of the tasks is the DVD – Tried and True: Live.  The DVD was recently released and great news was published by the Associated Press.  According to Soundscan, the DVD is a hit.

Another part of the juggling act is Clay’s new song for Disney.  Called I Believe We Can, the song is part of an episode of Phineas and Ferb.  Titled Summer Belongs To You, the entire project is getting a great deal of publicity from Disney and news about the show and song has been on most of the mainstream entertainment site.  The entire soundtrack for the show was made available this week at I-Tunes.  Have you purchased it yet?  For more information,  visit Wikia Entertainment

As most of you know, Clay is in the middle of a 17 city tour.  The Timeless Tour with Ruben Studdard is a huge success and is being heavily promoted at most venues.  The tour will visit the MGM Grand – Foxwoods on August 7th.  Susan Podhajski, a correspondent for ctpost.com, wrote an article about the concert and included a nice interview of Ruben.

They sang their hearts out and tried to out-perform one another while winning the hearts of millions seven years ago on TV’s “American Idol.”

Now, “American Idol” winner Ruben Studdard  and Clay Aiken are sharing a stage once again — the two will perform their “The Timeless Tour” Saturday at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort and Casino.

The PBS special,The Clay Aiken: Tried & True ~ LIVE! started being shown throughout the USA this week.  In most cases, telecast of the program is being used as a part of the fall pledge drives for the individual stations.  If you want to support the station, the stations have different gifts that are given to supporters who donate.  Most of the stations offer a copy of Tried & True CD and the DVD.  Clay was able to visit many of the PBS stations to tape pledge breaks that are run during the telecast.  It’s always fun to see and hear Clay chat about his work.

A selected number of stations will have tickets to the new Tried & True:LIVE tour that is scheduled for February and March.  Two of the areas that are including tickets are East Tennessee and Miami.  They posted some information this week that is fun to read.

American Idol star Clay Aiken will return to the Tennessee Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011.

Aiken’s live concert special, “Tried & True,” will air on East Tennessee Public Television at 8 p.m. this Thursday, Aug. 5. Filmed at the Memorial Auditorium in his hometown of Raleigh, North Carolina, the special is a preview for the upcoming tour. Aiken will perform standards from the ’50s and ’60s with a full orchestra. The special airs again at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8.

Clay Aiken Live In Concert at Adrienne Arsht Center

The Premier Guide – Miami has a wonderful article about the concert on February 10th.  They also included a short bio about Clay.  You can read the article at  Premier Guide.

The juggling isn’t over………In October, Clay has a concert in Chicago and then flies directly to Raleigh for the National Inclusion Project Gala.  I wonder what else he will add the the activity list!!

Don’t forget that tonight, Clay and Ruben will be performing in Windsor, Ontario tonight.  I hope all his Canadian fans have a great evening.

wfyi is the PBS station in Indianapolis.  Clay Aiken is the the cover story on the August issue of the Member Magazine.  Take a look!

WLVT-TV is the PBS television station that serves the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania.  In September of 1965, the station signed on to PBS as an affiliate.

The station sent out the following e-mail on July 29th:

PBS39, serving Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey, will be airing the new Clay Aiken special on Sunday, August 1st at 9pm.

Viewers can call in and order CLAY AIKEN TICKETS to the February 27, 2011 show at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA, BEFORE THEY GO ON SALE TO THE PUBLIC, by tuning in to PBS39 on August 1st at 9pm.

Question? Please call PBS39 Membership services M-F, 9am-5pm at 610.984.8100.

The station was correct about the tickets sales.  It seems the Advanced Tickets were sold out within minutes. I would imagine this “lightening fast” sale was a surprise to PBS39. Did you get your ticket?

“Clay Aiken: Tried and True Live,” is the companion DVD of the release of Clay’s new CD and PBS special. It was taped at the Progress Energy Center for Performing Arts Center this past March 12 and features Clay singing classic standards including Mack The Knife, What Kind Of Fool Am I and Suspicious Minds.

Both the Amazon DVD and the PBS disc were shipped  last week and many fans have now seen the beautiful concert on their TV.  Those who received the PBS disc have said the packaging and the inside of the package is wonderful.

Some of the wonderful “Clack-gathers” were able to capture some screen-caps from the DVD show.  They are amazing.  Enjoy!!!

Entertainment Weekly (EW) is a magazine that is published by Time Warner.  It covers film, television, music, Broadway Theatre, books and popular culture.  According to their internet site, EW concentrates on entertainment media and critical reviews.

In their July 23rd issue they have a great animated picture of Clay Aiken and Chaka Khan in their roles in the TV show, Phineas & Ferb.  Check out Clay………..Spikey red hair, striped polo shirt, dreamy eyes………I wonder if he is  wearing his famous shorts?

OK Magazine is a British weekly magazine with a speciality in celebrity news.  It is the best selling celebrity gossip magazine in the UK.  It has more than 30 million readers worldwide.  Their online site is called Celebuzz.

Today, they had a mention of the Aiken/Khan duet.  This site just sent the readers to the JustJared blog.  Well, at least it puts Clay’s name out there to lots of readers.

There was also a fun Twitter comment today.  The buzz around this duet is amazing.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
